Tennis Warehouse Playtest - Solinco Confidential 1.25

I also hit with the 18 last night, it produced less spin than Hyper-G, but more than Ice Code, Ice Code feels softer and provides some more power, Hyper-G feels more plastic like, Tour Bite feels stiffer, overall I liked it very much and it might be my new go-to string. Control was great either.

It looks like they dub every new string "Confidential" during closed-group testing period. Hyper-G was also a "confidential" before official release...

Finally had a chance to play a match with the 1.20mm. I must say, they play sweet! It is much more responsive than the 1.25 play test, and plays very lively. Spin generation is at least a step-and-half above the 1.25, without sacrificing power and control. Plays inline with my MSV setup. Tons of pop of flat ball, tons of drop of heavy spins. I’m almost sold to moving to this string.

Is it arm friendly?

Def. not armfriendly... Ok, I‘m suffering from TE which got better after I changed my setup to a nat gut hybrid, that‘s why I gave it a chance. Had to change stick after about 10min warm-up hitting, wouldn‘t recommend it to anyone with arm issues...
A friend hooked me up with a set, didn‘t get it through the playtest

Looks like Solinco Confidential made its way to the TWU string database, but it did not specify which gauge. At least by the numbers this seems like one of the higher end of the string-to-ball friction rating with a relatively average string-to-string friction rating, which could indirectly explain the quick notching when it slides against itself? I wonder if the overall performance would improve at all with a smooth/slick and somewhat stiff cross.

Can anyone who has tried both Hyper G and Confidential in the 1.20mm gauge compare the two? Specifically: power, comfort, tension maintenance, and durability?

The reviews here were so mixed and focused on the 1.25mm gauge. Thanks in advance! Hoping @TW Staff adds Confidential 1.20mm to the String Comparison Tool.

A long time Tourbite and Hyper G18G user here. I've been mostly using Tourbite and Hyper G as main in hybrid settings. I wonder if anyone can compare how Confidential 18G perform compared to Tourbite and Hyper G 18G?

Only played about three hours on the Confidential 1.20MM, but am normally a HyperG 17 player and have been going back and forth on mostly fresh setups of both at the same spec to compare (52lbs, Gravity Tours). For my game, it's softer and more precise than HyperG but not nearly as lively. Spin is there but different since it is coming from the texture and not the movement of the string. It doesn't notch like Hyper G so far, but I'm not sure that is a good thing (my preference). I don't have a gauge handy, but I think it is keeping tension better than HyperG normally does, primarily down to being more static. Just a prediction from feel, it will be more durable but I don't think it's ever going to open up like Hyper G tends to; for me, the last two hours or so of Hyper G's life is the best feeling you can get from a string, and I don't think Confidential will ever get there because of how locked and muted it is.

I tried 1.20mm and i have to admit that the tension holding is very bad, probably the worst of all the strings i have tested.
The hyper g and tour bite hold the tension much longer. The string is very comfortable in 1.20mm diameter , the topspin is not at the level of a tour bite, but it is not bad either. Definitely this string offers me the best feel of the whole solinco line, but unfortunately the poor holding of tension discourages me from any further purchase.

Stop using 1.20 and try the 1.25

I just played a two hour match with Confidential 1.25 again. The last time I played with it I had the tension at 48 and thought that it felt pretty stiff for the first couple of hours before it opened up a bit and felt a little nicer and provided a bit more ball pocketing and power. So this time I strung it a little lighter at 46 to see if it helped. And to my surprise it still felt really stiff and even jarring at times. And sometimes even when I would hit the sweet spot if would sound metallic at times. I'm beginning to not care for this stuff that much. In my opinion it's basically just as stiff as Tour Bite. Just a different color. I have one pack left. So the next time I play with it I'm going to try slow pulling it to 43 on a lock out to see what that feels like. When people say that this string sits between Tour Bite and Hyper G.... I think they are just blowing smoke up our asses. Because it certainly does not. It's basically a darker colored Tour Bite to me.

Anybody hear anything about that sky blue solinco string? Has anybody tried it?

Its comparable as long as the tension holds up, and does play a tad softer. Tension control is better with MSV by far. Most Solinco strings I've played with doesnt hold tension well IMO.
I find great tension holding with Hyper-G 16. Better than all the many strings I've tried. I tried Focus Hex 1.27 very recently but it was way too stiff for me. Maybe tension holding is better, that's possible.

yes the MSV definitely plays stiffer. I've optimized my setup over the years and found 1.17 @ 50lbs was my ideal.

Heard a few people go on about this string and obviously it's had a bit of hype since officially launching. I've just tried the 1.20mm in a hybrid with Vanquish in the crosses - I use this as my cross alternately with Wilson Sensation Control 1.30mm. My standard tension is 48 mains / 52 crosses. Never has so much hype been given to such a disappointing string. I was so excited to try this string. It played well for the first couple of hours, but the drop off was so rapid. by the fourth hour it's pretty much totally dead and unresponsive. I was playing with Revolution before, which I notice very few people seem to try. In my opinion it's a far superior string. It's livelier, plusher feeling and doesn't drop off so quickly. I generally only play with poly for 8-10 hours anyway, but the drop off in Confidential was so bad, it surprised me.

I was hitting with my coach and he said there was a noticeable drop in my usual depth and weight of shot as well as spin, so not only does it go dead fast, it also seems to lack any great spin potential which a shaped poly should find easily. I've got sets of Hyper G and Tour Bite Soft to try. I am a huge fan of the Solinco strings I have tried to date, Confidential, just leaves me feeling "meh".

I literally had the same experience with it using the 16L gauge at 52lbs. Ends up super mushy and unresponsive within 1 session. I tried giving it the benefit of the doubt because I thought maybe I just didn't string it properly the first time, but I tried it again after re-stringing and same thing. To me its a total dud. It also seems to have a much lower launch angle then both Hyper-G and Tour Bite which really turned me off. Just sitting here waiting for Hyper G soft to get released to see if that works out better.

Can't agree more. Hyper-G is way superior.

Didn't participate in the playtest, but here are my thoughts when comparing Confidential to Hyper G:

- I've played Hyper G as my go-to string for the past 3 years in a variety of gauges (typically 16 in open patterns, 17 in closed ones) and racquets
- I've been playing Confidential for the past 3 months, exclusively in 100 sq.in. / open patterns (PCG100 / Angell TC100)
- I get a more penetrating ball with Confidential, a loopier ball with Hyper G
- Spin is better with Hyper G, at the expense of some penetration. It just grabs the ball more
- Confidential is more consistent, whereas Hyper G can be a bit erratic a times
- Hyper G is a bit more comfortable
- tension maintenance is better with Confidential. I hardly notice any drop, whereas Hyper G feels noticeably different after a couple of hours
- I have a massive durability issue with Confidential. Hyper G 16 lasts me around 6 hours in a PCG100, whereas I hardly reach the 4 hours mark with Confidential 16 in either the PCG100 or the TC100. At 4 hours, the notches are 50% of the string, and just explode

If I was still playing the midsize racquets I used to (Prince Phantom 93, Dunlop CX Tour 200), Confidential would be a viable option. But in the TC100 I have transitioned to, which has a very open pattern, durability is just too poor, so I'll be switching back to Hyper G.

Has anyone used Confidential in a gut hybrid? Or will it eat right through the natural guy?
I have not but I often try to stay away from sharp/gear shaped polys. A rough poly might help with the durability...either way if you have the time...go for it

You play the Hyper G until it breaks, which is closer to the 6 hour mark?
