Tennis Warehouse Playtest: Solinco Hyper Mach-BD 1.20

What extra are you looking for? I think the only thing HGR might lack is spin, but I think at the rec level, you can work on racquet head speed to get sufficient spin. I do sometimes miss the crazy shape on the ball with like RPM Blast, but HGR is super consistent, which is what I value the most at my current level.
Oh you know, like just some extra pop, power, and spin, combined with increased control both depth-wise and directionally. Better comfort and feel, with improved tension maintenance and longevity. The ability to instantly add 20mph to my anemic serve. Not asking for too much.

@evermilion on a serious note, I too find HGR to be a consistent string that does just about everything well. I'm a fan of round polys in general (I very much dislike regular Hyper G in my racket), so in the past I've enjoyed Kirschbaum Evolution and Prince Tour XP. I feel like HGR gives me everything those strings did (well not as much comfort), but with a little more action on the ball. So I guess I was hoping to find another similar bump in performance.

Was not part of the playtest . Tennis shop recommended this combo to me to try something new. I usually play with Gut but my arm is healed they said try this at a low tenstion see how you like it. I got the 17g I believe and they strung it at only 39 lb. I put a leather grip on my Aero with overgrip and it was like I purchased a whole new racket. No break in, I mostly play doubles and I really love this set up. It has been a little over a week Still plays well. I have lost a little control since who knows what the tension is at now, but it has made me really work on hitting topspin to keep the balls in play. I think this will be my go to for the future. No arm or elbow issues. Probably bump it up slightly but that would be about it. I have the Mach 10 in main but the package recommended putting the round in the main? That goes against all I have heard. Has anyone tried it that way

Generally speaking the shaped string go in the mains, but really it whatever works for you. The MACH-10 / Hyper-G Round is a great combo and you can mix and match the gauges and tensions to suit your needs! You try mixing Hyper-G Round with some of Solinco's other strings too if you are looking for more or less of somethings. Enjoy !!

If I'm reading that right, you had a shop recommend poly over natural gut for arm comfort? Is that correct?

No , what I meant to say is I normally play with Nat Gut but I was bored. I tried this other poly set up at a low tension they said it would not hurt my arm and it doesnt. I really like the feel. I put Mach 10 in my othe racket yesterday with Poly Tour Pro in the crosses to see the difference again at a low tension of 40. Initial impression is the PTP is softer than the hyper G cross, not as much spin, but for whatever reason feel like I have more control. I do not hit huge topspin so the difference vs a big TP hitter is smaller but I do see a difference.

That makes more sense. I was about to tell you to consider another tennis shop.

How's the durability? I didn't find Mach-10 to be durable at all
I have it in the mains seems fine. I did cut them out to try out O toro with toroline enso in crosses. Used this for a few days higher launch and getting a little more spin out of the toroline. its a fun string so far, going to cut those out early next week to try out some YTEX strings . After that decidng which will be my final go to for a while. I am tired of trying stuff out honestly.

I've been trying the mach 10 HGR combo, but i did not like it very much. I found it very soft and mushy, not my cup of thea. A full bed of Mach 10 played better for me.
I decided to try Head Hawk Tour RPET last few days, after 30 min break in , has become my favorite string. I really like Mach 10 , but I love the Hawk Tour. Little more control to me and crisp not stiff or mushy I used the 1.25

I loved that string upon initial hit, but fell out of love with it quickly. I found Hawk Touch to have many of the same play characteristics for a much longer duration.

Have you tried different string tensions on mains vs crosses? When I went 2 lbs higher on my mach 10 mains then crosses it started to feel better for me

I'll preface this by saying I took 13-14 years out (didn't pick up a racquet once) and have had 6 or 7 hitting sessions only in the last 3 weeks, and hadn't played poly since a couple of abortive attempts with Alu Power / Big Banger nearly 20 years ago.

Stringbed felt DEAD. No feel whatsoever. I understand why some people are complaining about snapback, or lackthereof .. snap is probably the wrong word - springback. There's nothing snappy about it. I feel like this property is also part of why pocketing feels excessive (which it really does on the forehand). It made my shoulder hurt on the forehand fairly quickly - pretty much zero vibration or feedback but pocketing was so long on bigger cuts that there's a significant delayed shock. OHBH drive and bunts felt awful. It felt like the racquet had lost all torsional stability and power and sweetspot was a lot smaller. The pocketing was much less extreme than the forehand, but still interfered, especially when trying to hit hard with a big follow through. Short crosscourt it helped obviously. Launch angle was extremely low (even playing on a Gravity Tour '25) on forehand and low on backhand. Slice backhand was probably the lone positive, the combination of pocketing and shaped poly REALLY knifed the ball. Volleys were total ass feel wise, but slices were good, and drop volleys easy due to pocketing. Didn't serve, but I guess kick and slice would work well due to pocketing and shape, power would suck and feel would be bad and shoulder shock off the charts bad.

It was a windy, damp evening, and I will try in better conditions, but switching to a Prince Graphite II 97 with TF X1 Bi (17G 56/54) I had none of the issues that I did with the Head GT '25 with HM (also previously strung with X1 Bi). I had the HM at 50/48 and 17G. GT was originally strung with X1 Bi 17G at 52/50 (too low) and probably finished at about 40lbs (wayyyyyy too low, but still felt much better than Hypermach). With the Prince / X1 Bi I got much more pace, higher launch angle (despite being a lower l.a. racquet than the GT) no excessive pocketing and deadness (which I initially thought could be due to damp heavy balls).

I realize I'm going from the creme de la creme of multi (Gamma Live Wire Pro maybe the only better) to a very divisive poly / poly hybrid ... but this really felt like garbage.
