Tennis Warehouse playtest: Solinco MACH-10

Is the flavor of the week over now or are people still enjoying this string? At first I really liked this string, then I suffered a patella tendon injury which kept me off court for 4 weeks. I just came back last night to do some light hitting. I grabbed the racket that I had strung with Mach 10. I hit with it once before my injury. Then it sat in my bag for the past 4 weeks. I was wondering if it held up or not. Well evidently it didn't. It was spraying balls everywhere and agrivated my tricep tendonitis. Definitely bagged out. I guess this is not too surprising though. I'll tear it out and get a fresh bed in there and hit again in a couple of days to see if I still think it's as good as I once did.
I enjoyed it when i had the opportunity to be on both the Mach-10 and the mach10/hyper-g round hybrid playtest. Like you, my arm has been receiving pain once the string lost it freshness. Both times i playtest with mach10, I cut it out after like two weeks. I’m thinking of stringing mach10 with an ATW one-piece method to see whether the tension loss or the string characteristic is the cause. Still a good string nonetheless.

What other crosses have you tried with Mach-10 mains if any?
Mach-10, hyper g round, and tour bite round. I might mess with another mach 10 blend in a second frame, but probably unnecessary at this time. I liked the HGR but TBR added a touch more stiffness and better feel for me. I thought to try Sync, but it would be unnecessary and I like the full Solinco bed quite a bit.

trying the 18 G mach 10, strung at 50 lbs. is this correct tension ?

Wouldn't this depend on the racket, string pattern, player technical ability and other details? In other words - yes its perfect

In all seriousness - just use the same tension you would for Confidential 18g or HyperG 18g - so you can feel any benefits and then change accordingly. Personally I did +2 lbs over Confidential 16L for Mach-10 16L.

What other crosses have you tried with Mach-10 mains if any?
I’ve tried Mach-10, Hyper-G Soft, and Pure Rush shaped crosses, and Hyper-G Round, Razor Soft, and Outlast round crosses. Mach-10 and HGR are my preferred crosses, with Outlast close behind (it seems there’s a Solinco synergy thing going on…they all just work nicely together).

What were main differences you found with the HGR cross vs the full bed M10?

For me, full bed M10 provides a bit more spin and power, and a softer/more comfortable feel. HGR has a slightly lower launch angle, more consistent penetration, a bit more control, and nicer playability around the net.

The differences aren’t great, but they are noticeable, especially when using them back-to-back during a good drill session.

Or email Solinco and beg for it.
Thanks! Looks like it ships to US. Let me know anyone who wants to spilt a reel or grab some sets.

Like @thenewbig3 said, just go with your regular tension.

During the playtest, it was a bit cooler, so I strung the Mach-10 about 2 lbs lower than usual. Now that the temps are warming up, I’m at the tension I typically use with Hyper-G Soft and Tour Bite Soft.
i got to try the 18 G strung at 52 lbs. VEry very interesting experience,, not what i expected. i thoguht i was going to have ton of Trampoline effect but i didn't .. sure,, launch angle was higher but not crazy high,, i could control it. I did get better feel from the string but i didn't really have that added power i expected from thinner gauge.

Overall, i think 17G is just better overall. if you need lighter string,, 18 gauge might work out but would have to string lower or same tension, don't go up on the tension just cause thinner gauge. that was very odd feeling for me

Besides the launch angle, did the 18G offer anything exceptional feel compared to the 17G?

felt like i had slightly better feel and better spin with 18G. surprisingly power was about the same. I was playing with that Rock hard penn Marathon ball so it probably wasn't as good of play test. you have to use the US open ball to get the best experience with these and true feel.
No wonder ATP players constantly complain about balls, it really does make a big difference

what does bagged out mean ?
Loss of tension where the string no longer snaps back. Loss of elasticity where hitting the ball is uncomfortable, harsh and jarring like driving over bumps in a car with worn out shocks. 18g stopped snapping back within the first 30 mins. By 90 mins, I felt the harshness. The thinnest I generally go is 1.25.

Ok, Mach-10 has been out for a few months now. Any Confidential users that have switched over? Confidential 16L is my current go-to but I'm down to just enough for one more string job and was thinking I might try Mach-10 in my second racquet. Any reason I shouldn't? I haven't found anything wrong with Confidential, I'm just a string ***** and can never settle. Playing a Shift 18x20. 4.0-4.5, big serve and groundstrokes, but volleys could use work. Been playing a lot of doubles lately which has been eye opening to how bad my net play is lol.

They’re wildly different strings imo. If you’re happy with Condidential I’d stick with it.

Confidential is more control oriented and it feels like the trajectory is more linear. M10 has better feel and more power so if you find yourself wanting more of that it could be worth trying a set. The "hyper-mach" hybrid with the hyper-g round on the crosses does tame the power in a good way if you feel that M10 by itself is too powerful for your liking. I think the hybrid is also an excellent middle of the road set up choice if you're not fully convinced on going full shaped or full round or hit semi-western and like to flatten out more often than not.

My son was a Conf. 17 user that switched to M10 16L and then decided to hybrid the two. More recently, he switched his hybrid setup to TB17 mains, crossed with M10 16L, 52/52. Loving that so far.

He previously had the Mach10 in the mains but felt he wasnt getting enough access to spin that way so tried TB in the mains with the Mach in the crosses, his idea being he could get the legendary TB spin potential with the Mach taking the edge off of the TB harshness that has caused him issues in the past. So far, so good with this combo.

Will you say Mach 10 has similar characteristics to Grapplesnake Alpha? How do you guys compare these two brands' lineups? My favorite is Alpha/Sniper hybrid which balances launch, feel, control, and sweet spot of each strings. Tried M10 and felt it got bad feeling at net

M10 and Alpha are very comparable imo. This is oversimplifying a bit but with Alpha you’re exchanging a little classic Solinco spin for classic Grapplesnake feel. M10 is great but Alpha is a goated string for me.

Cannot agree more, Alpha is more like Lynx Tour for me while Mach10 is a bit muted

I was play testing the Mach 10 full bed in hot weather last friday and i will have to say,, for some reason these Solico Polys tend to become bit unpredictable in the string bed. Even Mach 10 this was true, i had shots launch deep on me ,, normally it doesn't happen with RPM blast.
I think there is reason why Jenson Brooksby does the Hybrid and not full bed mach 10. Not sure it is because of this issue of balls flying on you when in hot weather. What does he Hybrid with ? maybe i should try his setup ?

I believe he uses natural gut in the crosses

LOL,, i definitely can't afford that. That is power setup,, not sure why he is choosing to go that route. but control wise, it should be very good since Gut will actually make the string bed more plush and more controllable

Trugelli seem to have switched to mach 10

Has anyone tried hybrid Lynx Tour/ Mach- 10? I like the crispness and direct feedback of LT and want to keep the power/ pop of Mach 10. Which should go in the main?

Not recommending anything as it is a personal choice, but my kid is playing Tour Bite 17 in the mains and Mach10 16L in the crosses, kind of for the same reasons you are talking about. He likes the crispness and firmness of the TB, but the TB is too much on his shoulder to go full bed with it. He found that the M10 mains takes most of the harshness out of the TB while retaining what he likes about the TB.

i wonder what would happen if you put Confidential in the mains and Mach 10 in the crosses ??

Someone will try -
My friend had tried M10 main + Confidential cross, and he reported back the hybrid has less bite than full bed of M10. Anyway as all said the feeling can be personal.
