Tennis Warehouse Playtest: Solinco Whiteout v2

Some preliminary thoughts as I'm thinking thru the upcoming playtest ... what I've seen, heard and know (from the my frames -Dunlops-) so far.

Hoping to get this one strung up for play this weekend! Should be here in the next day or so since we're in NorCal and it's shipping out of SLO. It's kind of surprising to me, after talking with friends at our club just how "under the radar" Solinco's frames are. So hopefully once I get this thing on the courts, I can get it into a couple of friends hands; one just got a Blade v9 and the other the Head Radical MP (it's neon red). My comparisons will have to be with the box beam CX200 and the older Dunlop 300g (it's probably a 20 year old design); I don't think the Dunlop SX 300, since it's a spin oriented frame is an apples to apples comparison.

So far, it appears this WO v2 should be competing against the Blade v9 and other similar 98's.

Evidently you're at a big advantage if you've hit with the V1 so you can compare the more muted feel of the V2; I haven't hit with the V1 so I won't know other than what other playtesters have said.

In the Dunlop line the 300g's don't really have any of the newer dampening either in the layup or in some type of foam injection (handle or hoop); they're so old this wasn't even considered back then they were just getting the layups perfected back then with different graphite orientations I think; so you get a lot of feedback on off center hits (and you almost have to add lead at 3 and 9 and 12 to get stability and plow thru dialed in). Now, by comparison, the CX 200 has a muted, plush, comfort level so much different; still a control frame but much more "comfortable" to play with but still customizable with lead for plough thru. So in my mind this may be what the Solinco WO V1 and V2 distinctions in feel might be (but probably to a lesser degree); it's hard to imagine it being as stark a contrast but maybe it's similar in some way.

I spent a couple hours watching reviews online just to get a feeling of where this frame is positioned; one of the most interesting was @dr. godmode (TennConn) who ranked the WOv1 at his top tier (evidently he didn't rank the v2 yet in the tiers). Excellent video btw; agree or disagree; it was well thought out based on what he is looking for in a frame (feel i.e. feedback without overly being dampened). Just as a side note, he's probably the only playtester I've seen that ranked the SX300 above the CX and FX; so again it's preference for Spin I'd say. That's kind of why I picked up the SX 300 besides the fact that the 2022 model was an absolute steal once the 2025 came out. It's all about what you want and what suits your playing style at the end of the day.
V2 was ranked in the vid since I’ve also done the full review for it. It was the 2nd racquet in the video and defined B tier.

My package was delivered. Can’t wait to go home and unpack. I’m probably going to string it up with 16G poly at 52lbs and see how it feels. I think the V2 will have a little less connected but plusher feel than the V1.

As far as the paintjob goes, many thought V1 was some sort of a prototype. Some liked the minimalistic design, but other‘s felt the design was too simple. The V2’s camo paint looks really cool,

Im super stoked to be part of the test, I rarely get to see any Solinco frames down here and particularly rare in public courts.

I asked for the XTD, I usually play with standard length but this peaked my interest. Thanks TW & Solinco!

Had a surprisingly nice hitting session last evening; plan was to hit with the ball machine to get some general feel for the this frame and how it would compare to any of the three Dunlops I've been hitting with lately. What actually happened ... I had a 1/2 hour or so with the ball machine and then one of our 4.5 guys who played college tennis wanted to hit so I jumped at that opportunity.

This would prove to be an ultimate test since I'd hit with a similar skill level player the night before with the Dunlop 300 SX but I think this guy hits even harder. Here's what I found out: the frame is extremely stable in stock form. It has remarkable control / power balance. I could go toe-to-toe with him off both sides and completely hit out. Hitting hard flat shots with him was just so much fun and this frame held up completely in stock form.

I thought I was playing my best tennis with the SX 300 Tour; the WhiteOut V2 may be the perfect tweener (control of the CX and Spin of the SX) though with a little better plough than the SX. Even the grip feel is similar to the SX / CX. Comparing it in the Dunlop line it kind of falls between the CX200 and the SX300 tour; I cannot compare it with the FX 500 because I haven't hit with that one in several years. I has all the control of the CX200 with the same plush/muted feel but with more spin potential; probably due to the more open 16x19 pattern (I have the last gen CX 200 before they opened the pattern up in the latest gen), and it has a bit more control but less spin than the SX 300 tour (again I have the last gen of this one as well not the current one). Interestingly enough the actual frame looks somewhat like the old Dunlop 300g with the box beam. I'll have to do a side-by-side photo but the layup looks pretty similar; feel is obviously completely opposite because the dampening tech in this WhiteOut V2 is far advanced beyond those 20 years-ago design.

Ok I also had some of the gals around the court give it a try; they're at least 4.0 women players and they really like it as well; they mentioned that it was very stable and everyone seemed to like the camo cosmetic. Funnily enough the only person that didn't want to try it was my 4.5 hitting partner who is married to his old Prince Phantom (PL 800 in black) lol! Ok so looking forward to playing some sets tomorrow with it; I'm taking notes on each hitting session but what I can say now is that this frame is truly something special and it's working marvelously with the Mach 10 mains x Hyper-G round crosses. It's definitely and easy transition to the Solinco WhiteOut V2 from my Dunlops which makes the playtest and comparisons both fun and rewarding.

On other note: I weighed the WhiteOut V2 and also checked it on my balance board and it was completely on spec at 305g / 320 mm.

Nice!!! Did you use the default butt cap or one of the weighted ones?

Received my package. Really enjoyed the inclusion of the Mach-10 string bracelet.

My rackets is 305.96g / 32cm / 300.2SW including the thick solinco rubberband they have at the top of the RG (plastic removed)

For clarity - they do not include the alternate weighted buttcaps

I had about three hours of hitting with WO XTD, probably a third of that was rallying and the rest was playing doubles, Initially, I struggled with consistency of my forehand, but my OHBH felt great. I was a bit afraid that the extra length would make my topspin backhand cumbersome, but it was not the case. It was super maneuverable. Hitting forehand also became more consistent once I focused more on being in the right position to hit. Overall, I feel that I would need a couple more practice sessions with the XTD to fully get dialed in.

The string spacing reminded me of some of the spin rackets, like the 2019 Pure Aero, I’m sure it isn’t was widely spaced out, but it is super wide open. I would still categorize WO XTD as one of the control rackets, but if felt like I could generate so much spin. It was interesting to see my balls bounce so high because my current racket is Ezone 98 and the previous was the Auxetic Prestige Pro. Those are great for drives but not so much the bouncing topspin. Power is another thing to note. There is effortless power. I didn’t need to swing really hard to generate power. Spin, however, is required to keep the balls in. At least, it was like that for me today. The feel has not changed much from the V1. It does feel softer at impact, but it does not feel muted.

I briefly switched to Ezone 98 at the end to compare. The launch angle difference was evident. All the balls were hitting into the net, or barely making the clearance.

Did you guys get a UPS package notification or did it just show up? So far I haven't recieved anything.

Everything is stock; I haven't really felt any need to customize it at this point; I also don't use a dampener. I feel like the swingweight is perfect for me; one thing that stands out is how good this frame is with stability and redirecting pace from heavy hitters. They didn't send any weighted butt caps with it which is fine but it's great to know those are available; don't know any other mfg. that has those; I think it shows just how much Solinco is on the cutting edge.

very excited to see how this stability and redirecting pace holds up against my 305s as the 305s is already great in these areas

Did someone compare whiteout 290 v1 and v2?
I'm loving my whiteout, great stick as I'm getting older, sw of the 305 was to high but the 290 works great. It's very stable fort it's weight. And read great feel. I feel like string pattern is perfect, should have been the same on the head extreme tour which would have been a spin monster.
Whatever, dit SO compare?
Thank you in advance.

I’m thinking about that 290 as well. I’m 72 years old and the heavier swing weight can be tough. Is the power lever okay on the 290?

For Whiteout v1, the 290 and the 305 have the same swingweight. In fact, my 305 is 2 points lower than the 290. The power of both is the same. The only thing different — is the balance.

Maybe you got a little unlucky in the spec roulette? '22 and '25 average measured specs by TW show the 290 was 13SW points less than the 305 and only 1HL difference.

Loaded to same specs it will be the same as 305 or really close. Buy only if you can check/confirm specs before buying... I assume you will want to keep it around 315-320SW to keep it easy yet usable instead of 330 which is hard for most..

Yes, 320 much better than 328 or 330.

Got the email today for delivery tomorrow! Thinking of stringing it first with hyper g 1.20 or confidential 1.20 first and then trying the mach 10. Anyone try poly tour pro in this?

Just got mine today. Paint is beautiful. Puts my gravity pro 2023 to shame. I appreciate the bracelet, grips, and vibration dampeners as well - for me the the vibration dampener has to match the brand of the racket :). I will string it up with hyper g 1.20 first since that's what ive been using of late. Hoping to play as soon as Wednesday night for some first impressions

Anyone play the v1 and compare vs the v2? Is it just supposed to be more flexible?
i guess every reviewer had a take on this. To me it's definitely more comfortable with more linear launch (better sense of control). Perhaps a bit less spin in exchange but nothing that couldnt be adjusted with tension and strings i think. I didnt experience more power.

Not to say your feedback is wrong, but wanted to add that in speaking with the Solinco reps at IW, they said the feedback they had received from numerous players was that the V2 did offer a little bit more power than the original.

in general if there is any difference in power potential it shouldn’t be a selling point to buy v2 over v1. I guess that’s what I mean. The performance is too close imo. Solinco mainly played with feel and perhaps launch angle imo.

Oh, come on! Just say to him what you really want to say:

The added Arch-2 construction is intended to improve stability, comfort and power according to Solinco. I did notice these changes over the v1. For me, the launch angles seem to be similar since the string pattern and spacing remain unchanged.

Furthermore on the topic of launch angle, i found the launch angle of the WO v2 to be VERY similar to that of the current gen Pure Strike 100 and when I placed the WO v2 over the PS 100, it came as no surprise that the string spacing between these two racquets was virtually identical.

Is the launch angle lower than the v1? Are you using 16x19 or 18x20?

I've heard a lot of great things about the v1 18x20 and evidently that one is on sale at TW right now. I'm really enjoying hitting with this v2 16x19 it's pretty special. Hit with it at lunchtime today and did some serve practice only on the add-side with slice down the T and kicker's out wide; I was very impressed with the power, control, and just the solid plough through this frame has. It's very comfortable to serve with. Didn't have any crazy bad jarring feeling or vibe whatsoever.

So I took the 305 v2 regular length for a spin this afternoon. Played doubles in my regular 4some. No practice before playing with it the first time.
I played very well. Ground strokes were solid and depth came easy. When in trouble or late i didn’t have good results pushing the ball back. When I set up and had a good swing the ball was moving through the air fast. A little higher launch angle than my Prince TT tour 310. You don’t have to swing hard, just smooth and let go. Racquet will do the work. Good power! My TT tour has good power and so does this new v2.
Serves were solid with plenty of spin. Need more time with it on serve. Im Gonna get some basket time serving with this one tomorrow.
Touch was good and I was successful with several drop shots. Seems very comfortable, No arm Discomfort at all. Volleys were solid with good pace. Maneuverable and quick exchanges.
Those are some of my first impressions, more to come.
