Big fan of the Prime Tour, currently deciding if I like it better than the Wilson overgrip or not. Have not tried the Head Pro overgrip! Given the Texas heat and current humidity, great time for an overgrip playtest ;-)

Since I've switched to a head racket + strings, I've been trying to move over to the overgrips as well... still searching, but I've only heard amazing things about the prime!

Very interested in this. I recently decided to try some Gamma overgrips to see if I liked them better than the Wilson Pro. Hated them...

Head, Prince, Tourna, and Tecnifibre have been on my list to try, but I was going to wait until my stash of WP got low.

Don’t remember many overgrip playtests. Haven‘t had a reason to switch away from Wilson Pro or Tourna for years so it would be fun to see where some other companies are at in catching up or surpassing the classics!

Heavy user of Prime Tour, stocked up during the Head sale last year. Switched from Supergrap - it seems to resist going flat longer, and I found the texture once the initial tackiness wears down is less abrasive.

I would love to try these new grips out. I guess you can call me an emerging tennis nerd… I just graduated high-school and I already love trying out new grips and strings.

Between the two, which one feels more tackier?
I've been using Prime Tour since I found it was cheaper than both Wilson Pro & SuperGrap. It's not exactly, the same, but it's damn close. I really only notice a difference when wrapping the handle as it looks to have a more...textured surface, where Wilson Pro & SuperGrap look smoother. But, I honestly can't tell the difference when playing.

I'm interested in comparing the Prime Tour to the Head Pro, if Pro is really supposed to be the Tourna equivalent as suggested by @taydbear7. I sweat a lot, and during the summer months, to "normal" grips barely last me 2 matches.

Out of curiosity, how do you apply for play tests?
There are usually directions at the top, usually sending in an email. They edit their post and remove the instructions to apply for the play test when they no longer need applicants!

Thanks @Fighting phoenix and @McLovin. I rotate between Wilson Pro, Yonex Super Grap, Tourna Tac/Mega Tac and I like knowing there is more options with similar tack to choose from. For those selected congrats! Playtests are fun! Looking forward to reading reviews.

I too am a Wilson pro devotee unless I'm sweating buckets. Then I'll pull out the tourna tuff xl. Excited to see how Head grips stack up!

Really happy with my Volkl grips but when I did my extensive research a couple years back i never actually gave Head ogs a shot. Should be fun to see how they stack up

Neither. Favorite Head grip is Prestige Pro. Love it because it’s wider than most

Interesting. I’ve compared the Prime with Wilson Pro but I’m interested in Head Pro. I like both the Wilson and Head but like the Head Prime just a bit more.

Got mine today. Going to try it out this weekend

I’m one of those that swings the racket in front of the TV watching highlights. Prime Tour feels better imo plus the back side is also kind of tacky so it’ll adhere to leather grips better? And it’s pre tapered at the bottom so I don’t have to cut the angle and I think it’s longer for those who like longer grips for 2h backhands

The Head Pro feels a lot like the old Tourna blue grips, cloth like feel, it seems shorter than the Prime Tour.

I’ll see how it is in the next few weeks.

First 2 hours with the Prime Tour - Really like this grip, seems it would be sturdier than babolat vs overgrips. I like that the back is tackier so I feel it'll over grip on to leather grips better and not slip around. Thin enough that it doesn't have too thick a ridge on the overlaps but a bit thicker than babolat vs overgrips so I think it'll last longer.

Prime Tour is thicker than Babolat VS and similar Wilson Pro, less thick than Solinco Heaven. Like it a lot so far good feel and tack.

After 6 hours Prime Tour still feels great to me. Still tacky, definitely looking like it’s lasting longer than my Babolat VS overgrips. If you want a grip that’s in between the thickness of VS overgrips and Solinco Overgrips, Prime Tour looks to be a great choice. I’ll see after 20+ hours because that‘s how long my Solinco Heaven grips last. I really like the semi tacky backside of the grip as some other over grips are just too smooth on the reverse side and some times the over grip will move on slicker stuff like leather grips.

Going to get started on the Head Pro grip. To me it feels almost the same as Tourna, but it’s been a while since I used that, so that’s just going off memory.

Head Pro Grip. It feels and plays the same as I remember the famous Blue tourna. To me it’s got a more cloth like feel, it wasn’t slippery even after a few hours but Prime Tour wins in the grippy ness and feel for me. I feel like I can grip lighter/looser with Prime Tour and need to grip a bit tighter with Head Pro grip. So far Head Pro is not my cup of tea, but I was never a huge Tourna Blue grip fan. If you like the texture/feel of Tourna this is good option. It’s also not pre tapered so you either end up with a slightly bigger butt cap on 1 side or you need to cut the start at an angle and I can’t see myself doing it at the same angle for each grip.

Prime Tour is the better of the 2 for me. If you like Tourna Blue the Head Pro seams to be same or very close to it.

I find Prime Tour slightly tackier than Wilson Pro, in a good way. And it holds its tackiness longer than both Wilson Pro and SuperGrap while never feeling too sticky and inhibiting grip changes like some of the ultra tacky options. I can't quit the stuff. If it goes on sale, I back up the truck and load it up.

@TW Staff , I have a dumb thing to clarify. Are we to play with a single over grip for 6 hours, or log a total of 6 hours with each type (which could be 2 hours on each of the 3 overgrips).

I assume 6 hours on a single overgrip.

Mine arrived today!

First observation is that I struggled to get the plastic wrap off from around the Pro Grip. I eventually gave up and found a pair of scissors to cut off the outer plastic wrap. Even after cutting it, I couldn't find a seem where I could have unraveled it.

I also noticed that it is square on both ends. I'm assuming most people wrap it around the base at least one time before going up/down the handle? The instructions on the back show cutting the end toward the throat at an angle before taping it off.

I haven't done anything more than pull the tape off from around one of the Prime Tour, but it feels remarkably similar to the Wilson Pro that I normally install.

One thing I can say for certain at this point is that I already like it more than the Gamma OG that I tried during the Spring ALTA season. That thing lasted 1 set before being removed in favor of no overgrip...

Good question, Cowboy. Please play a minimum of 6 hours with each type. Whether those 6 hours come from one grip or are spread across multiple grips depends on the user. For example, some people replace their overgrip after 2 hours (especially in extreme conditions), while others can go much longer.

We assume most players have a sense of how long to play with a single grip before it needs to be replaced. However, we appreciate the opportunity to clarify these admittedly vague instructions. Ultimately, we want you to log as many hours as you need to properly evaluate each type.

I played with Prime Pro before. It's kind of a combination texture of semi-tacky, semi-dry. It's a nice break if you've been using the same super tacky or dry overgrip for forever and want a different feel. While the durability was good, I felt the surface/texture picked up dirt easily, which caused my grip to become a bit slippery even if the material itself wasn't wearing out yet. I would not use it regularly for that reason, but it could be worth a try if you're tired of using Supergrap or Wilson Pro for the millionth time.

Mine also arrived today...
Just in time, it's been in the 90s and very sunny in the sunshine state these past few weeks
Perfect extreme conditions for this test

As a great fan of regular Lynx, I am very excited to have received Lynx Touch to sample.

I just got mine today! Thank you for the strings @TW Staff! The new Velocity Power Strings! Are we also to do a short write up strings too?
Hey vsbabolat!!

The Head strings are a gift for participating. No need to review them in this thread. However, if you have feedback on Velocity Power, feel free to post here, and if you have feedback on Lynx Touch, feel free to post here.

Mine just arrived a few minutes ago, will throw them on for tennis tonight. Thanks TW & Head, super excited!

Edit: got my first match in with the prime tour. Initial thoughts are very similar to Wilson pro (in a good way). More to follow!

Played 1 1/2 hours this morning in mildly humid conditions. Used the Pro Grip the whole time. Honestly...felt just like the other blue grip. I burned through 2 wristbands, and had no issues holding on to the handle. Will post Pre & Post hitting pics later today.

A few items to note:
  1. As @Cowboy noted, getting the top wrap off the grips is...frustrating.
  2. I had no issues getting to the top of the handle, and I'm using the Blackout XTD, so I have a bit more handle to wrap. I did taper it at the top as my OCD will not allow the corner to stick out from under the tape...
  3. I presume this is 'flippable' like the other blue grip, but I'll find out after my next hit (I think this side will only last 2 matches).

Here we go...brand new on the left, after 1 1/2 hours of singles in the middle, and after 4 hours on the right:

Initial impressions.....
As others have said, basically feels like Wilson Pro Overgrip.
If someone handed you this without the Head finishing tape, you probably wouldn't know the difference.
Regardless, it'll be judged on its own merits.

The feel is definitely tacky, not particularly thick, seems pretty average. I pulled a little too tight, and these are pretty long.
So ZERO worries if you have an extended racquet. My normal ViperDry is a little on the shorter side, so I have to be pretty deliberate in the overlap.

Weather tonight was unusually mild in FL and compared to the last several weeks.
88° F and about 60% humidity (it had been in the 90s, even in the evening)
So really wasn't doing alot of sweating.
I do think this grip will falter if your hands get sweaty, but that's just my prediction.

So far a comfortable overgrip, pretty standard fair for this type. Durability is always key with OGs.

As of now, I have about 2 hours on the Prime Tour. At this point, I am pleased with it overall. I'm taking it into a match on Saturday without replacing it first. I'll have another on standby if needed, but I think it will be fine. I'm going to try to get the full 6 hours on one. 2 hours of practice, 2 hours match play, followed by 2 hours of practice. Saturday is supposed to be hot, so I'm debating on whether I should put the Pro grip on another racquet just in case. I'm under the impression that the Pro Grip is superior for sweaty hands, but I've been burned before by taking a new OG into a match without practicing with it first....so on that note, I'll probably just have a fresh Prime Tour ready to go.
