Went into the PGA Superstore that opened recently. Looked at all the cool golf simulators they have that can measure the velocity, trajectory, and spin of the ball. Watched a bunch of people hit - you can tell pretty much with one swing who the 3.0 equivalents are and the 5.0+ equivalents are.
My golf background is that I played putt-putt a lot as a kid, had one lesson at 12 years old which told me how to grip the club, and went out onto the driving range twice about 10 years ago and hit some irons - the balls sliced sideways so much a couple actually ended up behind me (and were bombing the groundskeepers sheds). I remember after practicing a while starting to learn to straighten them out some. I had actually never even held a driver in my hand, before today.
They had a clinic where a pro talked about the basics of driving for a while - slightly bent kees, pretty much straight back, butt back some. Fundamentals aren't really different than baseball or tennis swings. Then they had a long-driving contest (into the nets in the simulator, of course). If you hit more than 240 yards you got a hat, farther than the pro hit - about 285), a backpack.
My first swing went about 200 yards, but only about 100 yards forward and over 100 yards to the side (slice). Second, I straightened out some, but atout 140 yards. Pro then said to put my butt out a bit more and be more straight in my shoulders. Also, I cheated in my stance a bit to allow for the curve of th slice. Straightened it out more - stiill a lot of slice - and got 244 yards and the bounce stayed just inside the gridline marking the bounday.
I'm sure that 240 yards isn't anything too great, but given that a lot of guys couldn't do it, it proves one thing:
TENNIS PLAYERS ARE BETTER THAN GOLFERS!
