Tension maintenance of Hyper-G poly in a hybrid with VS gut

I have a question about how long Solinco Hyper-G crosses will be playable with VS17 gut mains. My NTRP rating is a high 4.0 (according to TLS) in Southern California and I play both singles and doubles regularly - playing style is aggressive baseliner with big forehand and I approach the net as soon as I can in singles also.

I usually play with VS17 gut (57 lbs) due to previous elbow soreness issues and my current racket is a Pure Strike Tour (3rd gen white/red). I've tried gut main/poly cross hybrids (VS17/Cyclone Tour 18, VS17/TourBite19) a few times in the past with my old 1st gen Pure Strike Tour (red/black) and liked them for about 10-15 hours of play before I started feeling a loss of control due to possibly the tension dropping. I just got my racket strung with VS17 mains/Hyper-G crosses (51/48 lbs) and it played great on the 1st day - I could swing out much more freely and hit deep with more control due to the extra spin. Since the 3rd gen Pure Strike Tour is more comfortable than the 1st gen, I have not had any elbow soreness since switching rackets in the Fall and am thinking of switching permanently to gut/poly hybrid strings.

Will this VS17/Hyper-G combo be playable for longer than 15 hours without much change in playability and control if I don't break the strings before that? Any other suggestions for what poly to try as a cross with VS17 gut mains if I am looking for a soft poly with good tension maintenance and spin potential? Thanks.

I feel like Hyper-g is known for a sharp falloff at or before that 15 hour mark in a full bed, but might be able to extend itself as a cross. The most tension maintenance poly I've ever tried was 4G Soft - but don't be fooled, it's not a super soft poly by any means but could be a great smooth cross option one day.

I don't think Hyper G holds tension that well and prefer a round poly for a cross. I do like the 4G Soft suggestion above and agree it is not "soft". I curious and was just going to compare it with Tourna Big Hitter Silver but the tool is not working. Someone posted that the comparison tool is down as well.

Anyway, I string a lot of gut/poly hybrids with Big Hitter Silver and it is a very slick round poly that holds tension well so that may be another option to try.

Agree with #1 and #2, 4g soft has great tension maintenance but it isn’t very soft unless you go down in tension.

Use the TWU String Database Reporter and select string-to-string COF,total tension loss% and stiffness for swing type and tension. Sort by COF and Loss%. This will give you an set of strings that may be candidates for crosses, i.e. low COF and good tension maintenance. Then look at stiffness.

Hi @esgee48 that is a great tool that I use all the time. However, the tools are still broken today. I am running Safari 13.1.1. The drop downs are messed up and the screens look like the older code/version.

I also use the string comparison tool quite often to identify comparable strings. For example, there is player in our town that approached me a few weeks ago to restring his racquet with Addixion and I didn't have any so I checked and found the Wilson Sensation I had has almost identical playing characteristics.
