Tension on mains vs crosses

On a hybrid setup, poly mains and synthetic crosses, it seems like people use a lower tension on the polys as general rule of thumb. Do people ever string the synth tension the same, or even lower compared to the poly mains? Does higher difference in tension btwn mains and crosses decrease durability?

the main reason people string poly mains a lower tension is because you're supposed to string polys 5-10% lower tension. think of it this way;people are not stringing their synthetic guts tighter, they are stringing their polys lower due to the 5-10% rule.
