tension question, poly -> syn gut

Hello. I'm experimenting, but don't have the knowledge to make a decision without asking you pros.
I'm looking to change the setup in a vcore98 v6. I've had it a couple weeks. I need more power from it.

My primary stick is a head speed mp 360+ 52lbs with a shaped poly 1.20 17G diadem elite XT. I like this setup.

I have my Yonex vcore98 v6 (2021) strung with element 1.25, 53/50. I like the pocketing, but I lack power (bigtime). So I need to make a decision on what to try in it next.

option #1
go with another poly, move from 53/50 to 51/49 next or 50/48?
first, I have been told to string yonex mains/crosses with a differential of 3lbs, others have told me 2lbs.?
second, how much lower should I go to really feel a difference? for ex move the mains down 2 or 3 or 4 lbs?

option #2
wilson syn gut power 17 / 1.25, but what tension?
why am I considering #2? since the vcore is a 65/66RA (and I prefer more comfort, the head is so much more plush) I was thinking of going with a multi or syn gut in this stick.
or is this a bad idea, instead of switching to a different type of string right now.... just go down in lbs with a poly, so I can get a better idea of what's what, first?

I have a ton of poly and syn gut and multi on hand. so $ is not a concern.
thank you in advance.

-i personally would string the new Yonex vcore98 v6 (2021) at 49/46lbs with FB polys, 17g, or abit tighter with 18g poly; and adjust from there
-if i was trying it out with a syngut/poly combo, i would try 16gsyngut@50/bs/18gpoly@46lbs; and adjust from there

I would suggest reverse hybrid and go synthetic mains and poly crosses if the OP wants to amp up power + drop tension 3lbs. That should be materially different enough vs his current setup to see if he likes synthetic gut play.

LOTS of nice feedback, thank you everyone.
I'm going with poly/syngut combo, 50lb.mains/53lb.crosses
probably lynx tour, for the poly
but it looks like I have a few options, to fall back on, thanks to you all.

Cheers!

First day hitting with this new setup, right off the stringer, not much more power, perhaps a smidge.

I found syngut crosses to soften the stringbed and bit and make it more comfortable, but not give me much more power than a full bed of poly. The playability of the stringbed seems to really be driven by what you have in the mains. If power is what you are looking for, I suspect you are going to need to ramp down the tension a bit (down to maybe 46 mains) with your poly/syngut hybrid or swap them and do a syngut/poly hybrid (at say 52 in the mains).

That's been my experience. YMMV

Also, FWIW, I've been told that the advisory on stringing Yonex mains/crosses differently is old information and doesn't really apply to new Yonex racquets with the newer materials/technology. I don't think anyone really knows. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

poly/syn gut setup would still use 18g/16g?
-yeah, i would,
-but 17g-poly/16g-syn.gut works also for me
-im hoping to get the durability/control from the poly main
-hoping to get the comfort and enough of the power from the syngut on the cross

-17g crosses IMO tend to "power up" a bit too much for me; ive tried it and dont like it as much as 16g cross syngut

-ive also experimented with 18g syngut crosses on hybrids, and it was not good
-while you get a bit more of spin on a drive-slice and/or kick(where the cross comes more into play) you loose a bit more on the control department
-again, just my findings, or my preferences
-good experiment to run on your own to see what you feel

I’ve been running around this board like a madman telling everyone how well Gamma Synthetic Gut 16 has been playing for me. I used to be a diehard poly user until I developed a little golfers elbow. I string my EZT at 57lbs w Gamma Synthetic Gut and I get ALL the aspects of a poly. At $3.50 a set it’s worth a try.

just curious, have you tried other synguts at this tension and something specific about the gamma is working for you? I’ve largely stopped using my Ezone because of my elbow. I tried a couple of different synguts in the mains (prince, tourna syn armor) but stopped when balls were sailing with both.

will definitely grab a set of gamma

I tried Pro’s Pro synthetic gut and absolutely hated it. No feel, no pop or power, completely muted string, it even felt weird when I was stringing it. I know there are other synthetic guts out there, but I feel I found my string. I do a full bed of the Gamma at 57lbs. It’s a softer string so I was advised to try it a little higher. I normally string at 55lbs. I’m not a string breaker per se, but I do get about 10 hours before the strings are unplayable. At about hour 8-10 mark, the string bed is pretty mangled and they can’t be put back into place. It’s so cheap ($3.50 a set) and I have my own stringing machine so it’s really a win/win situation for me.

Are you using the normal syn gut by Gamma or the one with wearguard? If you've used both, what's the comparison?

that's annoying. TW doesn't have the yellow in stock or they don't carry it. just the gold, i guess red it is!
Try Tennis (in a hurry) Tennis Warehouse wouldn’t allow me to post the name of their competitor. The price is the same over there too and they both play pretty well though.

So far just the regular one, I ordered a few sets of the sets with wearguard, I just haven’t had a chance to string and play them.
i was looking at the Gamma SG after your recommendations... and remembered they have the normal ones and one with Wearguard. i remembered reading that the Wearguard can be slightly stiffer. look forward to your thoughts.

second day, today, and it felt a bit better!
I think the next time I will go another LB lower in the mains. maybe 2 LBS.
thx all.
