Texas info

Hi, I am 21 and new to Tennis. I signed up for USTA membership and I live in San Antonio. How do I get involved with tournaments or leagues? I've looked around to no avail.

There aren't too many more tournaments left this year. The biggest one is Texas Adult Sectionals: http://tennislink.usta.com/Tournaments/TournamentHome/Tournament.aspx?T=62713

In November, there's the South Texas Open:

There are several other tournaments though, if you're willing to travel a little. Just check the schedule through TennisLink.

As for leagues, there are lots of sites participating in the fall leagues. Try McFarlin, Blossom, Anne Marie, Thousand Oaks, and Sonterra for starters.

Good luck.

Thanks for the tips, Thousand Oaks seems like the best option, but how do I use my USTA membership to actually play?

You have to enter tournaments or join leagues online now. When you try to do either, you must enter your USTA # at that time. Then you are added to the list and can start playing.

I don't know if you can afford it, but joining your local country club can get you a lot of tennis time. I didn't think I could afford it at first, but then found out you can get a non-golf membership. I wish I did it years earlier. I got to play alot of tennis and make new friends.

It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it.

First, go to www.usta.com.

Then, choose TennisLink near the upper right corner.

(To go straight to TennisLink and bypass USTA, go to http://www.usta.com/TennisLink/Default.aspx

From there, choose either leagues or tournaments, whichever you are trying to enter.

Next, you will have to have a team number to join a league, or a tournament number to enter a tournament. The team captain or tennis center should be able to give you a team number for league, and the tournament numbers are found at each tournament's website. You may have to search TennisLink to find the website. For example, the tournament no. for Texas Adult Sectionals is 800016008. For leagues or tournaments, you also have to enter your USTA number, and pay with a credit card. After that, you will be signed up.

Nevermind I found it, but how do you decypher this?

M(Op,25-30)sd; W(Op,30)sd; X(Op)d; NM(2.5-5.0)sd; NW(2.5-4.5)sd; NX(2.5-4.5)d; HW(Op)d; NW(5.0)sd; NX(5.0)d

thanks I just have one problem, I can't find my USTA membership number anywhere and I logged in on the site but I cant where I can view my info.
