Textured durable string for hybrid setup with soft poly?

I got a reel of WeissCannon Scorpion 1.22 for cheap and like the string, but would not mind a bit more spin on my Tecnifibre TF40 (18x20 string pattern).
WeissCannon Scorpion is considered to be similar to Yonex Poly Tour Pro, which is probably better known here. I wonder how would it perform in mains on a hybrid setup with something thick and textured in crosses?
Does anybody have a recommendation for a spin-friendly yet durable string for crosses given the soft 1.22 poly in mains?
I am not a string breaker, but still an aggressive baseliner probably around 4.0 and never had any arm problems, in case that matters.

Try a multi in the mains, with the Scorpion in the crosses, crosses tension 4 lbs. lower than the mains. Multis and synthetic guts are too rough to allow mains to deflect well. Having poly in the crosses will allow the mains to slide and snap back for more spin on the ball. When you have a nice, slippery poly in the crosses it will be easy to find a main string that will work well. Nylon/poly hybrids are less durable than other configurations, but since you're not a string breaker it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

thanks, very interesting. What benefits would a multi in mains have over the full bed of scorpion?

Better feel. I loved multi/poly in the TF40 for the feeling, but you will get less spin than full bed poly.

-why textured crosses? best shot with that setup is is a backhand slice
I thought it would add some grip on the ball. But I guess I mixed up the roles of cross/mains.
So in the essence I would like to build a hybrid something like that:
while using the Scorpion 1.22 in the crosses (which is a soft poly) and am looking for recommendations for grippy mains - textured or shaped.

I use Tourna BHB7 or Luxilon Alu Power Rough with round polys in my Blade 18x20.

-ahh ok, yeah, that combo you showed is a good example of what seems to give you best results
-the mains have a big impact on most strokes, topspin specially
-here is another example of the type of hybrid combos
-the cross is head.hawk, its a thinner crisper string than the mains, it allows for better snap back

-the weiscannon scorpion is a feel good poly, i tried it a long time ago
-the gauge you have is very good for a cross cituation, with many textured 17g main polys

Thanks, good to hear! Do you think I could go for 16g mains for better tension stability?
Or maybe just Yonex Poly Tour Spin 1.25? It's shaped and not textured, but still has very good reviews for spin and tension stability. The blue color also complements the TF40 nicely :sneaky:

-i like 17/18 if i can, but 16/18 is ok if thats all i got
-one of the big issues with combos, is the tension, 2-3lbs less on the cross string, from the main string
-anyway, good luck with your setup!!
