Thank you Dmitri for getting the one hander back to the top 10

With today's retirement, last single hander inside top 10 is out.

Again no single hander inside top 10. Its a dying breed. Double hander is the only way to go.

1245 points to defend for Dimitrov in next 2 months, out of 3110 points. Most likely he will lose far more pts than win.

No new single hander for foreseeable future.

3005 points for Tsitsipas as well. 1825 points coming by end of Barcelona. Tsitsipas is hopeless and will likely drop out of top 20 this year as no improvements at all.

Let's stay up to date to see if Musetti makes it out of R1 with match vs Arnaldi a 50/50. If he loses then next best bet is Perricard wow.

The onehander is not dead. It's just used most frequently by talented headcases, apparently. Does anyone think that Tsitsipas, Dimitrov, or Shapovalov would be in the top 10 if they just switched to a 2-hander?

The undisputed truth is this factory of U.S. 2hbh male college players has not correlated into expected success on the tour. In fact, these 2hbh's have been embarrassing.
Factory produced a fritz who had 1 hander in early days but switched to 2. And he now has a slam final unlike dimitrov, a masters like dimitrov and made atp finals final where unlike Goffin he faced Sinner.

Tsitsipas in particular is an unfortunately ironic flag bearer.

"Look, there goes Stefanos Tsitsipas! He has some weaknesses as a player, but he deserves our respect and admiration for being one of the last exponents of the venerable one-handed backhand in the top 20! It's a beautiful tennis stroke that deserves to be preserved. Bravo Stefanos!"

"So what's his main weakness as a player?"

"His terrible backhand!"

Fritz is not exactly factory produced is he? His father played a huge role in his development from what I understand.

Besides, what changed most for Fritz? Mentality.

Mentality meaning game right? Fritz movement became much better, forehand slightly bigger but attacking and serve slightly improved.

Eg 2023 March, close to 2 years ago,

Vs 2024 Decemeber.

52 % 1-3 pts won vs 53.9 now
39% serve impact vs 39.9% now.

Everything is better.

How do you capture mentality in a stat? I would say a more attacking forehand is a strategic choice?

Those changes aren't huge, especially when you consider a Sinner or even a Zverev. He was knocking on the door even two years ago.

Not sure what you mean. That's why I do not like arbitrary terms like mentality or mental strength. Let's declutter everything.
Yes more attacking game is strategic choice and we can also call it mentality.

So Sinner and Zverev made more jump but what has that got to do with Fritz who himself made HUGE improbable jump? Anyway my point is about a generic 2 hander American is also prospering now far more than a single hander.

Comparing what Fritz has done in last 2 yrs to Dimitrov against the peak big 4, Tsonga, Ferrer, Cilic, Nishikori,...is not convincing. If anyone puts Fritz in the years from 2020 and back, he would never go as deep to what he's done now. And you know this. Today's top 2hbh players are more athletic and better than early 2000s and much easier to appreciate.

I don't know anything.
Dimitrov best year is 2017 when he was given free ride to be number 3 in the world.

And Fritz only won IW because Nadal was an aged beat-up warrior who suffered a fractured rib in his semi-final win against Carlos Alcaraz. Sure Fritz had a tweaked ankle but a rib tear is worse.
I will not engage in a Fritz conversation because he will not make a slam final ever again.

Let us see. He can definitely make it on fast courts of Wimbledon.

Ok, I honestly wish him the best but don't see it happening. If he does it, I'll congratulate him because he beat the odds and worked hard. I see more potential and better possibilities from a few other 2hbh players.

Don't be so so sure.

Decade ago Wawrinka 3 slams.

6-8 years ago Fed 3 Slams & 5th set tiebreak Wimbledon

4 years ago Thiem Slam & Tsitsi RG final five sets

Were Dimitrov younger w his recently found tougher mentality . . .

Were Tsitsi half-way grounded emotionally . . .

Musetti's not bad, he just happens to prefer "old school" surfaces . . . see what comes of him

I have amazing news from an unknown source that Djokovic, as a little toddler, learned by himself to hold his toothbrush with two hands,
for brushing his teeth. In order to halt his desire to comb his hair with a two handed stroke of the comb, the parents cut his hair down to 1 cm.
When the parents saw how their toddler never missed a tooth when using his two-fisted topspin swing, they immediately signed him up for tennis!!
