Thank you Nadal and farewell

Nadal is humbling lesson for tennis fans. So we should not become too belligerent, god gave us Nadal.

Imagine a fan like myself who is too new to tennis and see my favorite winning tournament after tournament and being number 1 favorite for every single tournament, it would be too boring.

Nadal made Roland Garros mission impossible for 2 decades so much so that it became my focal point of watching tennis year in and year out. Although I believe like many others Wimbledon is the main grand slam in tennis, it was not as much a challenge as Roland Garros since Nadal came on the tour.

So thanks to Nadal for teaching humility, showing that there are some things that you can not get easily, however great you become. That 2014 final is epitome of this lesson.

I wish you could have saw it all in real time. Honestly think you would have liked Rafa more than Novak.

Hard to believe. When will they hold the official farewell ceremony?
Now that they know it is over, I assume it will be very soon, so they can all go back home. Maybe tomorrow even. I expect Djokovic, Murray and the boys to all be there for it.

In many ways the greatest that’s ever lived. To accomplish what he has despite basically 15 years of injuries at various times is insane I could only imagine if he had better health like Fed and djokovic what he would have done.

I thought it was basically over for him by 2014-2015 and the dude just kept going. And to win the AO 13 years after winning his first there? Insane . He was a rare breed for sure. Definitely has clay records that won’t ever be matched. If he had better health I think he would have won 30. There were a lot of slams left on the table
I don’t care what anyone says but 2008-2010 was the highest level I’ve seen from anyone. Ever

Best athlete who ever lived. Still it was always gonna end at some time the ride lasted longer than we expected.
I think Alex honnold is easily the goat because of free soloing El Capitan the greatest achievement in sports history

The end of a legendary career. Tennis will go on, but it won’t even be the same. I don’t see anyone getting me as fired up and passionate about the sport even again. But that’s ok, I’ll still have the unforgettable memories.

An even more amazing player off the court than on.... I've been lucky enough to have worked with him (stringing for him) many, many times over his entire career... I can't begin to mention just what a class act he is & always has been - at least to folks like me. VAMOS buddy & as always; "25, 25...ok!?"
Never wanted to let on that i have met him over the years, but suffice to say your post is bang on accurate. Literally in person he is just a regular guy you would see in your street. All men should use Rafa as the benchmark of how to be as a person.

It sucks him retiring but all good things must come to an end. He'll be really missed on tour, people paid tickets at tournaments he's in just to see him and he went above a sporting icon into a popular culture icon along with Federer and Djokovic.

He's been in some of the greatest matches I've ever seen, many said that he would retire before he was 30, I remember those days but he overcame his knee issues and then confidence issues in 2015/2016 to return to top tier Nadal from 2017 to 2022.

It's a bloody good run he's had and the first time I saw him play was at Wimbledon 2003.

Loved those forehands dtl with almost no pace he used to hit pre-2009. Drove opponents nuts, because they always expected it to go out :D

Why were Federer, Djokovic, and Murray not there? I remember Djokovic said sometime ago that he would be there in person. Tbh, the official ceremony felt a little anti-climactic.
Not that it matters though.

I am sure Roland Garros would organise something grand the next year.
To be honest, as years would roll by the tennis fans would remember Federer's retirement ceremony at Laver Cup 2022 as representative of both Federer's and Nadal's retirement. And Nadal was never the same player after that. Wimbledon 2022 was the last tournament where he played as a serious contender.

Rafa is bald now. This one of the biggest pieces of news we should discuss. That good looking young gun from the mid 2000s who took on Roger in his prime and starred in Shakira’s music video has now all but lost his luscious locks of hair. If anything was the icing on the cake of what killed my childhood today, it was that.

Farewell Rafa, today was hard but thank you for decades of incredible tennis.
