That day when Denis Istomin was too strong for the AO GOAT at AO!

Nah, we’re all just in agreement that Joker was in great form leading into the 2017 AO after just beating newly crowned #1 and fellow ATG MurrayGOAT 11 days earlier. Meanwhile, RAFA’s best win leading up to the 2015 RG was checks notes* Berdych in Madrid

It probably has only one page because Nole losing at his best slam is a rather common thing to happen while Nadal losing at FO is the biggest upset in the history of this sport.

Great thread. :giggle: Usually when I create such threads they get deleted but maybe I can private message some of you guys my ideas for similar threads and you can post them instead of me. It would be a win-win situation.:giggle:

your threads don't get delated because of that, your threads get delated because:

Great performance by Denis but Djokovic was a shadow of himself, even lost to Chung the following year. The most impressive victory over Djokovic at the AO is Wawrinka's by miles, but Tsonga/Roddick were also more impressive than Chung/Istomin as his slump when he played the former was smaller than the slump when he played the latter.

Well, this thread was made as a response to Djokovic fans once again bringing their usual BS about peak 2015 Nadal. Which is why @Yugram mentioned AO 2005 too.
Nobody mentioned 2015 Nadal here, you're the only one bringing him up. You're about as obsessed with that as the guy from The Big Lebowski is obsessed with the Vietnam War.

We should not forget shameful losses to Istomin, Chung, Tsonga, Safin (while being bageled, too), and even... Rodduck!

Big shadow on the supposed tournament’s GOAT.
Djokovic has won the AO nine freakin' times, he's far and away the Australian Open GOAT. He's never had a "shameful" loss there. If you have this ridiculous mindset, apply the same standard to Nadal at Wimbledon, where he lost to dudes like Mueller, Dustin Brown, Darcis and Rosol, all ranked below 100 at the time they defeated Rafa there.

What does the 2018 AO have to do with the 2017 AO

Joker beat world #1 MurrayGOAT in a high level F in Doha 11 days prior to the Winstomin match (where he was up 2-1). Based on that, he was actually in great form heading into his pet schlem.

@Yugram made this thread in retaliation because Djoko_Django made a thread bragging about Crapdal’s 2015 RG loss.

Clearly not, otherwise he wouldn't have lost. Unless of course you believe Istomin at his best is better than Djokovic at his best.

He was average in the second half of 2016 and in 2017 until he stopped because of injury. Yes, he was better than in 2018 but still poor for his standards, peak Djokovic doesn't lose in the 2R of a slam, especially the AO.

it's a legit win at RG, Fed fans would brag the same if Fed was capable of beating Rafa at RG
Just like Istomin’s win is legit. No one says that’s a win over Peakovic though like some of the guys in the Joker fanbase say that 2015 was Peakdal.

And peak RAFA doesn’t drop sets to Jack Sock and get straight setted by Joker at RG.

he dropped 2 to Isner...... Sock won 1 set 7-5 lost the rest of the sets 6-3. 6-1, 6-2
2011 wasn’t peak RAFA. Prime yes, and Isner is about the worst 1R opponent you can play. Add that to the fact that 2011 was the year RG switched to much faster balls. That made his serve even tougher to deal with. And Sock isn’t the same caliber player Isner is. He’s basically semi-retired now.

Joker was up 2-1 against Istomin.

As was Istomin’s. I don’t have a problem with the loss. RAFA was no longer in his prime and had the worst season in his career since 2004.
He also had bad 2014 clay season and still won RG. Rafa at RG is a different animal...Djoker deserves full credit for beating him there. He was just better level at that particular time...I also think 2016 he would have beat Rafa again.

2014 was either his worst or 2nd worst winning form at RG. After he hurt his back in the AO earlier that year his prime ended. And at least he won a title in 2014. In 2015 he had zero titles and had losses to Fognini 2x, Joker, Murray, and Wawrinka. RAFA at RG is a different animal, but the one that showed up in 2015 was roadkill. Joker deserves credit (just like Istomin does), but it wasn’t surprising at all. Had he beat Joker, then either Murray or Wawrinka would have finished the job. Joker’s level really wasn’t that impressive either. He got pushed to 5 by Murray who’s not a great CC player. And then he got obliterated by Wawrinka in the F. That should show you how low RAFA’s level was.

I think RAFA beats 2017-2018 Joker at the AO.

We will never know, we can only speculate. But one thing we do know....Djoker beat Rafa on Chatrier in 3 sets nonetheless.

Istomen/Chung matches came during the injury year culminating in surgery and Djokovic roaring back to almost win 4 straight slams. Keep trying

This is like, not related at all to Djokovic's level in 2018 or 2017 AO.

Nonetheless, he dropped sets to players worse than Sock before though (Klizan, Brands, Puerta).
The point being that this thread was only made because a guy in your fanbase made a thread about RG 2015 being loss for a well playing RAFA when that’s obviously not true. Klizan and Brands both got hot in the early rounds and order was restored from set 2 onwards. Puerta was a serial doper who could only play that well because he was on the juice. Joker lost a set to Dodig in 2011, a set to old broken down Hewitt in 2012, and 2 sets to Simon in 2016.

Just like you’re speculating that Joker would have beaten RAFA again in 2016...when he was injured so not saying a lot. If Istomin and Chung beat 2017-2018 Joker then so could RAFA. The 2015 loss doesn’t even bother me. It was the worst version of RAFA and the loss came against a GOAT candidate. Joker has losses to Roddick, Tsonga, Wawrinka, Istomin, and Chung. None of them are ATGs and 2 are journeymen.

Fed had losses to Clement x2, Nalbandian, Haas, Seppi...

Istomin is a solid physically strong player.
Proud of him!
The pros will tell you the physicality, depth and competition is at your heels contrary to what is claimed on TTW.
This is not the Frankenstein's mummy hipensteel era.

He should retaliate by making a thread when Rafa was too strong for the AO goat at AO...and not use a different player:rolleyes:
Joker got to play the worst version of RAFA ever. RAFA never got a chance to play the worst versions of Joker (2017-2018) because Joker lost to journeymen :censored:

Yeah, I remember that match where Djokovic had match points in RG final... oh wait. He wasn’t even close. And stop with excuses. Djokovic lost at AO to Istomin, Chung, and what’s even worse, to Rodduck. Period.

@The Blond Blur I’ve noticed Djokovic fans always feel the need to call things not by their name.

Djokovic’s won CYGS... except he didn’t.

Djokovic’s beaten in form Nadal at RG... except he didn’t.

Djokovic’s almost won 4 Slams in a row in 2018-2019... again, he actually didn’t.

Is Djokovic’s career so bleak that they have to just invent things he never achieved?
