I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve never even had the chance to reach the pinnacle of my profession. Can’t imagine how that would feel and how I would react.

I am not a Djokovic fan, though I hugely respect the player and champion that he is. I wanted him to win today, as I really wanted to witness the history of our sport being written.

But I think the enormity of the event got to him. To be fair, he had started to dip at the Olympics, where I can only put down his defeat to Zverev to mental exhaustion. Then, at the US Open he still had enough class to reach the final without playing particularly well, but that wasn't enough against someone of the caliber of Medvedev on hard courts.

Still, an immense champion, and I am disappointed for him. This year would have taken a lot out of him. It will be interesting to see how he bounces back at the AO.

If Djokovic had won this final, we'd have never heard the end of it. Him losing makes 2022 much more interesting. Can Nadal get back to proper fitness and have another surge? Will the NextGen just take over now? Will Djokovic bounce back? Can a 40-year old Federer do the impossible?

When someone who rarely shows that kind of vulnerability breaks down, it's painful to see because you think how much they must be feeling. Always saw behind Novak's tough, smirking facade. He is a very sensitive person. People showering him in negativity, treating him like he has no feelings are emotionally stunted and stupid. All the mocking of his needing love like it's something to be ashamed of and not a normal human desire. Ridiculous.

Yes "so the dance continues" to quote a tv show Californication :p
Im sad history wasn't made but glad that Medv didn't lose because of the atrocious booing while he was serving.
Novak is human after all. He is in great form but the next are coming and also Rafa has a huge reason to come back at least for RG.
2021- all tied at 20. How funny.
No one predicted Rafa's loss and the same happened to Novak. It was a movie like year.

Especially the end with Novak sobbing. Not a fan of his but can’t help but feel horrible for him.
Kind of felt bad for him, but not really given the incredibly obnoxious fanbase and family he has that’s been gloating nonstop.

Being destroyed by a second tier talent like that was embarrassing.

A lot of people predicted Novak's lost. See the threads on his draw for ample evidence.

Not really! Medvedev had the easiest of draws and Djokovic the hardest. In the end that was a mountain to climb.
