that's what aggressive Zverev is capable of doing

Flashes of 2017-18 levels of agression again from the German. Combine that attitude with his consistency of today's, he can be the dominant force.
This has been clear since he broke into the top 10. I don’t understand why he hasn’t been playing this way all along.

Mind is a tricky thing, gentleman.
Zverev can literally be Wawrinka 2.0 (that too, with much more consistency, better serve, better reach, better return, better shot tolerance, better defense) if he stays agressive.

Well, the mentality is a huge part of success, and peak Wawrinka was insanely clutch at times. He also had a much better forehand, better backhand, and 2nd serve.

Zverev has capabilities to match or even surpass the brute ballstriking power of stan in every department, but yes mind is a big part.

Since 2000, Djokovic lost 2 of the first 3 sets in at least 4 Slam matches that he went on to victory: '20 AO Thiem, '21 AO Fritz, '21 RG Mussetti and Tsisipas.

So can Shapovalov, but it just doesn't happen like that. They have to be able to sustain it in the Slamsh throughout the season. Wawrinka did that.

Also, Zverev forehand will likely never match Wawrinka's, even if he can go big with it sometimes, it is a much less dangerous shot.

The advantage for Zverev is that he can go big, but he can also defend, he serves great and returns very well.

Zverev if not double faulting has a far superior serve than Stan though

I'm probably not the first to mention this, but Murray won gold then has first slam at the USO in 2012. Perhaps history is repeating itself

I have been saying it for years the guy is an excellent player and has all the tools to become no1 one day. It seems like this place can only see the potential once he scores a big win.

This OG is going to be the highlight of his career. His fan should relish it.

He played aggressively from 3-2 in the 2nd set because he had nothing to lose. Not sure when he have something to lose next matches, how well he will play.
