I'm trying to assemble a system that issues points for bagels and breadsticks. I'm going to need some help keeping track of them being handed out as well as eaten.

I'm thinking 5pts per bagel, 3 pts per breadstick. We should keep track of the bagels and breadsticks the players ate as well for tie-breaker purposes as well as those just wanting to argue. Maybe even deduct points for eating them, but that will be addressed at another time. I have included bagels and breadsticks that occurred in sets that ended in retirements (i.e. 3-1, 4-0).

This is a small list among the top 15. I could expand it to the top 20, but keeping track is going to be a pain as the year goes on.

EDIT: Now has the top 20 players and their point totals. () denotes net point total of the points served - points gobbled.

As of June 26, 2009: (B is bagel, b is breadstick)

Off:

Nadal is the bagel king, Simon the breadstick king so far.

Perhaps, rank them in descending order by point total

I'm sorry i've never heard these terms before. Bagels and breadsticks? In terms of tennis Bagel i think mean when you take a set 6-0 right? whats a breakstick?

I could do that, but that's a lot of copying and pasting. I could put the numbers in excel, sort it out, export it to a CSV file and then paste to the thread. Hmmm... Goes to show how much of a life I have....sigh

If I did that, the *******s are going to be all-out whining with his name listed below Murray, Djokovic, Simon, in any statistical category....LMAO

Muzza is the real number 2, no?

Muzza is the real number 2, no?

So far, I'd say he is.

Funny the top 2 on this index are so-called "defensive-minded" grinders. Heck Simon has 9 breadsticks compared to Federer's 3, despite playing almost the exact number of matches.

Nadal's eaten a Bagel? He should retire...

It was in Rotterdam against Murray 3rd set i believe... however Nadal was (im not going to use the word injured) but not in the best physical form... he pulled an Agassi and continued knowing he was going to loose, rather than pull a Djokovic

And most surprisingly...Roddick has given 7 breadsticks and has not been given a single bagel or breadstick. :)

I started working on a WTA list. Elena Dementieva has handed out 4 bagels and 10 breadsticks so far and only ate 1 breadstick. That's good for 50 pts.

Nadal is the bagel king, Simon the breadstick king so far.

How about Bagels-Breadsticks Served rather than handed (to create a tennis pun and maintain the food theme)

OK, I'll shut up now

An interesting statistic. Its almost akin to baseball averages. Numbers are not as important as the rate.

Rate of what then? Rate of B/b per match, per tournament, per sets played? It gets really complicated and somewhat subjective if I were to set ratios. IMO if I were to do it that way it would be pts/set or the inverse sets/pt.

Even with just the simple numbers it has dispelled some stereotypes about certain players. Simon is a grinder, yet has the most breadsticks. Federer for years was the leader in bagels served, but has only 2 this year coming into clay season. Clay season has barely started, yet Nadal has the lead from an impressive hardcourt run. Ferrer is another grinder that's been serving up breadsticks and bagels. I had no idea Verdasco put together all those bagels and breadsticks.

Besides, I'm sure certain fanboys will try to manipulate the stats in their creative ways. LOL

Sharp memory Orange! But perhaps your vision isn't quite as sharp yet?! The thread title reads "The 2009 ATP Bagel and Breadstick Report" :)

Wait, is this only for this year? Because I clearly remember Federer serving Roddick a bagel in that 2007 AO SF.

Rafa destroyed Soderling and then served him breakfast :)

Breadstick followed by a bagel.

6-1, 6-0

Rafa is back on top with 56 points!

At the end of April, 10 of the top 20 players have net scores below 10. Del Potro has the lowest net score of the group and he's #5 in the world?? Stepanek is having a pretty good year, but has eaten 3 bagels already.

For all the bashing the WTA gets here, only 6 ladies in the top 20 have net scores below 10 and only 1 with a negative net score. None of them have eaten 3 bagels yet. 5 men have eaten 2 bagels compared to 3 on the ladies' side.

This report does have a few uses after all. :)

Ha ha ha, for a moment there, I thought the OP is actually counting on how many Bagels and breadstick the pros eat LOL. First thing that came to my mind, "What an odd thing to keep statistic on" 2nd thing.. "The pros eat bagels ???!!! " ha ha.

Blake ate a bagel. And to think he was looking decent on clay...

Cant believe blake lost that match, after having two match points at 5-4. He then just dissapear after losing those two points. He ran out of energy and just give away the match to montañes.
