Sharapova has only been dominated by one player--Serena. Halep has never defeated any of the power hitters like Sharapova, Williams or Azarenka and to be honest, I can't see Halep defeating any of them except for maybe in the odd match or two if the power hitter is having a bad day.

I'll probably check the livescores after an hour and if it's close or Djokovic is in the lead maybe I'll join in. Other than that - no way. I missed 80% of both semis because I knew what was going to happen. Tennis has just become way too predictable for me to enjoy.

But Sharapova is a flat hitter that relies on huge amounts of winners (and makes a massive number of unforced errors regularly). Isn't that the complete opposite to Nadal? Sharapova is more like Federer.

I read a lot of this thread and it sounded like a really good match! I'm definitely going to watch this later. Congrats to Maria on winning her fifth slam, 2nd Roland Garros title. Wow, so in the last 3 years, Maria has a FO title, final, and another title. Clay has been her surface for these past few years.
On a side note, the hate in this thread is incredible. Half the comments are "is anyone else watching this on mute" "I can't stand Sharapova, her shrieking is unwatchable." I can't really blame them, but wow.

You are spouting nonsense. Davydenko is no equivalent to Nadal v. Federer, as Nadal is already considered (by some) superior to Federer, which makes the H2H of little surprise. In the case of Williams v. Sharapova, there's no debate anywhere: Sharapova is not among the greatest players, and that H2H is a salient component of the assessment. History will not be altered in order to soothe the rattled emotions of fans of lesser players.
You missed the point. No one is saying Sharapova is greater than Serena overall, but strictly on clay, Sharapova is greater. Other posters including Amelie Mauresmo have stated why.
Both have 2 FO titles. For a person who cherry picks details as "irrelevant," (particularly when it does not suit your agenda--such as the revealing H2H), you want to acknowledge the random detail only when it benefits Sharapova (or Federer).
Remember, in the alternate universe where true details (such as H2H, etc.) are rejected to in order to pump the inferior player, the facts mean nothing. Similarly, pages of flames, lies and idolatry in support of such a player are waste material, to be certain.
So Serena has the same amount of clay slams, more clay titles overall, more Masters equivilent titles suchs as Rome and Madrid...and has never lost a match to Maria on clay....I don't see how Maria can be ranked higher.
The facts easily prove Sharapova cannot be ranked higher on clay, so again, such nonsensical claims are the product of those with a sick agenda to find any way to sell the inferior player. Yes--she fought hard during this FO 2014--she saw her "do or die" opportunity the moment Serena lost her match and fought all the way to the title. However, you are correct: Serena trumps Sharapova in everything, all capped off by that glaring H2H.

But Sharapova made 3 FO final in a row. H2H means next to nothing since it's winning 7 straight matches. Sharapova lost to Serena in the FO final is much better than Serena lost to early round to Muguruza, who lost to the eventual champion Sharapova. Not to mention Serena flamed out 1st round in 2012 FO. Unless you want to tell me that losing in the FO final is worse than in the 1st round, then there's nothing more to discuss.
