Come on bro, let it go! I have been reading these forums for a while and you are one of my favourite posters and Federer fans. I support Sharapova but I would have been glad if Halep won as well. I was just sick of everyone saying Sharapova will lose. She displayed great mental strength after losing the TB and won.

We have bigger things to worry about; the biggest match since Wimby08 is tomorrow. I hope Novak takes this really bad. He has to win the first to have a good chance. Just relax and I know everyone hates how Sharapova acts on the court but Nadal does the same and they turn a blind eye to him.
It's not even about Sharapova winning, I knew she would succeed in the end just as I think Nadal is going to win in 5 tomorrow that's why I won't bother to watch, it's about wasting so much time in the process. So now I'm wasting even more:):).

That's what I think too but we can't argue with" what would've been"in a serious discussion. Halep hasn't been dominated nearly as much as Sharapova has.
Sharapova has only been dominated by one player--Serena. Halep has never defeated any of the power hitters like Sharapova, Williams or Azarenka and to be honest, I can't see Halep defeating any of them except for maybe in the odd match or two if the power hitter is having a bad day.

I'll probably check the livescores after an hour and if it's close or Djokovic is in the lead maybe I'll join in. Other than that - no way. I missed 80% of both semis because I knew what was going to happen. Tennis has just become way too predictable for me to enjoy.

But if Nole takes the 1st and 2nd set, you will be glue to your TV.

LOL. Serena avoided Sharapova because she isn't good enough to be there.

That's like saying Sharapova avoided you.
learn the meaning of a word before using it. avoid has two meanings- 1) to purposely avert or 2) an action is evaded even if unintentional. the point is she has done both. us open is example one, this french is number 2 because we know the result when they meet.

Congratulations to Maria on a hard fought win.

Although I find it impossible to root for her on a personal level she is a well deserved champion today, and was a treat to watch. Simona too.

The Nadal of the women's tour wins again. Total buzzkill.
But Sharapova is a flat hitter that relies on huge amounts of winners (and makes a massive number of unforced errors regularly). Isn't that the complete opposite to Nadal? Sharapova is more like Federer.

Completely missed the match, slept in today. I forgot to record it too so I have to wait until 9 PM to watch it on replay on Tennis Channel :???:

I read a lot of this thread and it sounded like a really good match! I'm definitely going to watch this later. Congrats to Maria on winning her fifth slam, 2nd Roland Garros title. Wow, so in the last 3 years, Maria has a FO title, final, and another title. Clay has been her surface for these past few years.

On a side note, the hate in this thread is incredible. Half the comments are "is anyone else watching this on mute" "I can't stand Sharapova, her shrieking is unwatchable." I can't really blame them, but wow.

This was an amazing match!

It was great to see a women's match which was hard fought for 3 sets rather than having one of the players drop the level of intensity.

I LOVE to see matches like this one.

Funny--but I think it was clear to all that the sentiment was in her mind the moment Serena lost, considering the FO 2013 finals...and the rest of their H2H.

Are you alright man? This match finished about 8 hours ago and you're still going on about it despite not being a fan of either of the 2 participants,or in fact, anyone in tennis outside the Silliam Wisters

It was a great match indeed, finally some hard fought fight in the women's final. Shame there had to be a loser. Halep is becoming my favourite female player, something about her that is really interesting to watch. I'm sure she will have slams in her future. In a way, losing in her first final makes her appreciate the difficulty and make her work harder, so when you achieve it finally, you appreciate it.

The expected response. It drives you to bloodlust that Nadal so easily dominates your false god, much like Serena over Sharapova.
Is Davydenko is a greater hard court player than Nadal because he has a 6-1 record on that surface?

Gained a whole new level of respect for Sharapova today. This wasn't one of her usual matches against a lesser opponent where she bashed the ball and let her opponent wilt away. She had to play some great defense to win this match. Halep hit a lot of great shots I thought were either going to be winners or produce short balls but Sharapova turned a lot of those into offensive shots or outright winners.

It's a great match and I know you will enjoy it. Both players gave it all out in a 3 set thriller.

Don't mind the anti-Sharapova on this board. They are here not to enjoy tennis but to root the player they despise to lose.

Look,I understand you're hurting because your girl is on her last legs, but there's no need to take it out on other hardworking girls. Either way, this is the last post I'll make in here. I'm going to block you, along with TERRASTAR and Definch since you all seem unable to engage in any sort of fair and reasonable discussion without bringing your terrible Williams bias into it. Of course, there are many others of your ilk,but I don't think they take it nearly to the same extremes...

Sugarpova, congrats to you, again, on a wonderfully played match. When the match was on the line, you came through.

And congrats on the quick come back, when Mary Carrillhoe insulted your French. Yeah, I'd rather have the French Open championship than be able to speak fluent French as well.haha

Gonna try to get tickets to see you at Wimbledon Sugarpova honey. Hope to see you layith the smack down on Serena in the championship match... if she can make it that far.

Hugs and Kisses, Your biggest fan... Mr. Lob :)

You are spouting nonsense. Davydenko is no equivalent to Nadal v. Federer, as Nadal is already considered (by some) superior to Federer, which makes the H2H of little surprise. In the case of Williams v. Sharapova, there's no debate anywhere: Sharapova is not among the greatest players, and that H2H is a salient component of the assessment. History will not be altered in order to soothe the rattled emotions of fans of lesser players.

You missed the point. No one is saying Sharapova is greater than Serena overall, but strictly on clay, Sharapova is greater. Other posters including Amelie Mauresmo have stated why.

Wrong in terms of consistency on clay Sharapova is superior than Serena she now has 10 WTA titles on clay more than the other top players. Sharapova has been in three French Open finals in the last three years. Sharapova has won 54 matches on clay more than anyone else! People can hate on Sharapova but she is a five time grand slam champion!

Both have 2 FO titles. For a person who cherry picks details as "irrelevant," (particularly when it does not suit your agenda--such as the revealing H2H), you want to acknowledge the random detail only when it benefits Sharapova (or Federer).

You will understand why many do not find your arguments reasonable.

Ok one last post for Sharapova fans (or Serena haters) cause this is getting a little riddiculous:

1) Number of FO wins: Serena - 2. Sharapova - 2.
2) Number of titles on clay: Serena - 11. Sharapova - 10.
3) Number of Masters on clay: Serena - 6. Sharapova - 3.

Last 3 meetings on clay between them:
2013 FO - Serena 6-4 6-4
2013 Madrid - Serena 6-1 6-4
2012 Madrid - Serena 6-1 6-3

+ a win for Serena in Charleston from 2008 but that is ancient history, even more ancient than Sharapova beating Serena the last time way back in 2004 which is the Stone Age in tennis. That last win was so long ago that Federer was only beginning his domination at the time. 10 years ago, just think about it. There have been tennis careers that didn't last that long.
Remember, in the alternate universe where true details (such as H2H, etc.) are rejected to in order to pump the inferior player, the facts mean nothing. Similarly, pages of flames, lies and idolatry in support of such a player are waste material, to be certain.

H2H is irrelevant.

Is Davydenko greater than Nadal on hard court because he's leading 6-1 on hard court ?
Wow, what a great example: 6-1 on hard courts is not 15 straight on ALL surfaces, and, what's your explanation for the 17-5 margin in margins, genius?

So Serena has the same amount of clay slams, more clay titles overall, more Masters equivilent titles suchs as Rome and Madrid...and has never lost a match to Maria on clay....I don't see how Maria can be ranked higher.

I'm not a fan of Maria's and never will be, but I admire her fight and determination. However, Serena trumps her in everything.

This was one of the more competitive/epic women's finals of recent years. The quality was very high at some points, not so much in others, but the drama made up for any lapses. But when you compare it to last year's men's final with Nadal and Ferrer that should be enough to silence the WTA haters.

Oh, speaking of which, we're almost at 900 posts here for a women's match. Amazing!

The facts easily prove Sharapova cannot be ranked higher on clay, so again, such nonsensical claims are the product of those with a sick agenda to find any way to sell the inferior player. Failing that, some spend pages posting flames and vulgar statements as they are incapable of reading anything less than the written worship of Sharapova.

I'm not a fan of Maria's and never will be, but I admire her fight and determination. However, Serena trumps her in everything.
Yes--she fought hard during this FO 2014--she saw her "do or die" opportunity the moment Serena lost her match and fought all the way to the title. However, you are correct: Serena trumps Sharapova in everything, all capped off by that glaring H2H.

Ah, pro serena v pro Maria. So amusing for those of us who don't like either of them. Poor Halep, practically gets forgotten as all the bile is traded. However, it's all child's play compared to the Graf/Seles fanatics- now that's all kinda crazy. But people, fear not, you'll get there. Oh yes, you'll get there......;)

But Sharapova made 3 FO final in a row. H2H means next to nothing since it's winning 7 straight matches. Sharapova lost to Serena in the FO final is much better than Serena lost to early round to Muguruza, who lost to the eventual champion Sharapova. Not to mention Serena flamed out 1st round in 2012 FO. Unless you want to tell me that losing in the FO final is worse than in the 1st round, then there's nothing more to discuss.
