Nadal might just turn Up his form in RG.

But right now he is lacking in every single manner possible.

Tense Misfiring FH, Meek serve. Only the BH is somewhat of a saving grace.

Hate that Zverev might get his second win over Nadal.
Absolutely. You wrapped everything up nicely.

And ladies and gentlemen, while i did not watch any of the match, reading the above it seems shapo choked big time which is why you can book nadal v djokovic final.
These next gen are bottle jobs. Yes they can beat Nadal and Djokovic and Federer in smaller events. Best of 5 sets? No.
Rafa v Nole FO final 2021. Book it.

I am having a few Coronas tonight :) Good win :)

However can’t see him doing much this weekend - not enough recovery time I’m afraid....

I don’t expect Nadal to beat Zverev tomorrow, if Zverev wins. Time is closing in for the Big 3, and the changing of the guard will come soon.

Thanks for nothing, Dennis!

What a mess of a match.
Did you ever hear the tragedy of Luke Shapovalov The Foolish? I thought not. It's not a story prairiegirl would tell you. It's a Sith legend. Luke Shapovalov was a Ballbasher of the ATP, so powerful yet so foolish he could use his groundstrokes to influence the midichlorians to create unforced errors… He had such a knowledge of unforced errors that he could even keep the shots he cared about from landing in. The knowledge of unforced errors is a pathway to many abilities some consider to be unnatural. He became so powerful… the only thing he was afraid of was losing a match, which eventually, of course, he did. Unfortunately, he taught his opponent all his weaknesses, then his opponent defeated him in the third set. Ironic. He could save others from losing matches, but not himself.

Well, this was fun.
Shapo had no balls when it mattered.
As fully expected, Shapo fcked up on the MP and then played a terrible tiebreak.
Gift wrapped tiebreak. Anticlimactic ending to a marathon.
The worst type of match to see Nadal come through lol. Even more so if he goes on to win the tournament.

They call him the Heartbreak Kid for a reason 8-B

Excellent post.
I've said this 10 times, RG is looking open this year.
Nadal is a pale shadow of what he used to be. The worst clay tennis, as bad as 2015.

Now watch Nadal winning tournament as he will have a bye at SF (Delbonis or Opelka) and you can’t bet on someone like Zverev beating him two weeks in a row. If Nishikori upsets Zverev, no doubt he is on the final. He will probably get the day semifinal as well and that is a huge advantage.

Shapo is so frustrating to watch. He blasts these beautiful serves and forehands and then gifts a bunch of brutal unforced errors. He’s been like this since he burst onto the scene 4 years ago. I don’t think this is ever going to change. He will always be that guy that can cause an upset but will never be able to string enough consistency together to win a slam. He’s lacking something in the mental department unfortunately.

I always find it amazing how Nadal never seems to make unforced errors when match point down. You might beat him but you have to really take it to him, he won't just hand it to you. As someone who always roots for his opponent it's incredibly frustrating but in fairness Shapovalov wasn't as aggressive as he should've been, especially as both mps were in open play so I don't really feel too sorry for him. He who dares wins.

He will still obviously win RG which says a lot about the current level of the field.
The field is better than ever.........Nadal/Djokovic/Federer vs a series of younger stars led by Thiem, Tsitsipas, Zverev, Rublev, Berrettini, Ruud........and they prefer clay over every other surface (except for Berrettini - he'd be just as great on hardcourt).
And the prodigy - Sinner - took more games from Nadal at 2020 RG than anyone.
But they can't compete with Nadal at Roland Garros because its a different court entirely and best-of-5-sets obviously........and none of those young stars are winning best-of-5-sets events (except for when Nadal skipped the 2020 US Open and Djokovic was disqualified).

That loss will see him lose early at FO. He will take months to recover

Yes the field and the top players is a lot better than in 2009-2013. The game is at a better level than ever before! Each day it's getting better, not a single day is worse than before.
