The 2025-2026 NBA Season

The NBA will implement a new change for the 2025-26 season: unsuccessful end-of-period heaves will now be recorded as a missed field-goal attempt for the team, not the player, sources tell ESPN. Those long heaves will no longer impact an individual player's percentages.

Adam Silver was asked about the rising cost to watch a season of NBA games as a fan of a particular team, considering all the games on either cable or streaming services. He said that there's a bunch of games that will go on free, broadcast TV, and that fans can also consume the league in other ways besides watching games, noting that the NBA is a highlight league.

Just in: Houston Rockets' Fred VanVleet has suffered a torn ACL, sources tell ESPN. A devastating, potentially season-ending loss for the Rockets with their starting point guard and leader.

Bolded: sigh, just stop :(

I’m definitely going against the grain on the Rockets but I watched a lot of KD last year and he put up the quietest 27 since Adrian Dantley. He is not the same guy. The shoes he’s filling aren’t big and the shot creation is still there but I don’t think he can physically get through multiple hard-fought playoff series without slowing.

Green sucked in the playoffs but he was also young and very durable, Brooks made up a nice part of their defensive identity/was a dawg, i wouldn’t have given up on Whitmore and - this is a very newfangled concern but - where are their threes gonna come from? They were 20th in attempts, 21st in %… the trio they dealt made up HALF of those. KD is KD but if there’s one constant in his offensive game it’s that he refuses to change his 3pt distributions no matter what…other than ‘13 he’s averaged between 4.5-6.5 attempts for the last 13 seasons. Just based on projected shot charts they should be dead-last in attempts. Maybe by a significant margin.

Bookmark this and rub it in my face if I’m wrong but I think they’re gonna be a very unhappy fanbase come May.

3pt concerns intensified x 10 since the FVV news.

Seriously, where will they come from?

Unfortunately one fewer team who can deal with the scourge of the Demon Team. Just our luck. I wouldn’t be surprised if they miss out on being a top 5 seed.

Realistically, the player they need is 2030 Reed Sheppard in a 99th percentile development outcome: they need that player right now. Sheppard is a really interesting player to follow for a few reasons, an underrecruited white kid from rural Kentucky who happens to have a 40 inch vertical. My first true love was college basketball and I’m generally pretty good when it comes to projecting guys to the pros and he wasn’t on anyone’s radar until January or so. Ended up blowing BPM/advanced stat charts up, largely due to having a historical near 50% from 3 season at Kentucky and super stock numbers. Both seem noisy and outliery for a few reasons and he’s looked rather small and not played much in the pros after going top 3 in the worst draft ever. Not sure what to make of him.

So it’ll probably be Reed, and I expect he will have some good stretches here and there but to expect him to be a starting playoff level PG is just unfair. It’s interesting because Houston’s attempting to straddle the “two timelines” pathway again which is nigh impossible to do. Unfortunate for sure, but they also could’ve traded the Sheppard pick (or many of their other picks) for a real guard a while ago.

Regardless, there’s no solution for them to actually compete for a title this year unless Amen becomes 2007 LeBron. Probably a trade will happen and we’ll have to reassess then.

With the Horford signing now confirmed for the Demon Team, only Jokic and Shai remain as viable options in their path. I don’t like either team’s chances.

Shepphard really impressed me in his mini-breakout game against OKC where he scored 25 (he got roasted by Shai, but who doesn’t?) Obviously not anywhere near FVV as a floor general but if he took a leap and could replace some of his shot load/profile, it would keep them above water - he was a sniper hitting college 3’s but just hasn’t shown that type of marksmanship behind an NBA line. Again I’m trying to not reduce my analysis to “they don’t shoot enough 3’s” but they DID lose 62% of their attempts, as an ALREADY mediocre shooting team. This will be an interesting club. Either they’ll hurriedly scale up their attempts to keep pace or they’ll have the shot diet of a mid-2010’s team, before the long ball truly took over.

Another year of jinxing corpses, my good man?
Curry - best PG ever
Hield - best shooter in NBA behind Steph
Butler - best playoff performer of 2020s closest thing to Mamba Mentality in the NBA
Draymond - best defender of past decade
Horford - perfect complementary big, amazing IQ, switchability, stretch 5 with elite passing

Kuminga, Podz, Seth Curry, GP2 and the hidden gem of Melton the POA defensive stopper coming off the bench? They have zero weak links.

Everyone on that team (once Kuminga is traded) is just amazing IQ wise. It will be a frightening 2014 Spurs-esque juggernaut that will slaughter teams with their ball movement and connectiveness. I see them winning 70 games and the title most likely. If Steph is as good as his fans say he is they’ll win easily, this is probably his best team since 2018.

Memeing aside, no way they make it through four straight playoff rounds. There will be at least two critical rotation player injuries.

I'm only joking, I don't even know enough to say who is the best point guard. I'm going to try and watch some NBA this season. I've been doing that thing of watching videos while I play NBA 2k. Even watched the last dance again and that inspired me to join the Bulls. Then that didn't work, my guy was too small to be a serious interior defender, so in the end, I made a new character. a 6ft 10 centre.

You would love Joakim Noah and the early 2010s Bulls, I think. Rose has the tragic hero arc, the maniacal gaffer is in play, rise of Jimmy Buckets, it’s a great group of characters and an underdog story. Rose’s devastating injuries ruined such a promising team. Of course Bron was likely to spoil the party, but they were actually set up to be long term rivals.

Gotta give a shoutout to the Devin Booker stepback, it's helping me earn mad stacks and get free for those missed three pointers.... In career mode, because at the end of the day, I am a bum in terms of NBA 2k performance.

But yeah, I'm in NBA mood still. I was even considering watching a preseason game.

I'm quite familiar with this due to the number of videos I've watched. Rose has a small part in the NBA 26 because of the shirt retirement, and he's there watching in person when you're attempting to beat one of your rivals or something.

I'm hoping Walker Kessler can be my Noah. Bless Vucevic and all, but he's done in the game. Was glad I got the big man in at end of season 1. I didn't expect it. The free agent recruitment thing I did had players with the highest rating of 78. Ben Simmons was there, now he's here. The proverbial rotation player, until he gets injured again.

I've been looking at the sky sports schedule. They are showing the preseason game with Bucks vs OKC next Wednesday.

GSW vs Lakers is the first season game they are showing. Houston vs OKC a night later. Occasionally, they will show 2 games a night.

Cats or points? I am perplexed by a few of your choices but maybe I don’t know your league’s scoring

I’m probably out on this season tbh. Smells of a Dubs cakewalk while LeBron battles Father Time all year.
I'm easing into the Cavs season, don't want to get too involved until Garland at least gets back

and one ESPN writer agrees with you on the Warriors...

Why Kawhi lol.
It was him Walker Kessler Trey Murphy OG Jaren Jackson or the Charlotte wife beater

I already had Luka at point, Norman (because I wanted someone from MIA at least who I would be able to keep an eye on while I watch all the Miami games) KD and Mobley

I figured take a flyer on the universe where all the outside scrutiny means no BS from Kawhi this year

Will Cooper Flagg be rated 99 in a few years? He's easily the best defender I play against on 2k. I was playing Boston earlier, thinking, damn, I really can't guard Tatum, but he can't guard me either, so it evens out a bit more.

Speaking of Tatum, he was playing some 2k yesterday. Not against me or anything because I still don't play online. His stats looked good.

Points, which ones are you skeptical on
Ah I was reading them as if you took them round by round and got confused

Suggs Kawhi and KD were probably the three that made me head scratch the most… I’d also say Clingan. That’s 4 guys with big to massive availability concerns right off the top. Kawhi who knows with Aspiration, KD is 37, Clingan has foot issues and is in a center rotation, plays low MPG, and then Suggs is recovering from this knee surgery which makes his return unclear.

If they play 65 games maybe you win the league tbf. Great on a per game basis. But fantasy is about availability more than anything imo and your core is a bit too old/injury prone for me to feel comfortable with. In a 14 team league I get it’s slim pickings and you kind of have to pick moonshots.

Also, as a Hornets fan, Dinwiddie sucks monkey balls and you should do anything possible to avoid him (though I get he’s a hedge on our PG’s health lol). I bet there’s someone undrafted on the waiver wire like a Keldon Johnson, Dosunmu, Jabari Smith, Horford etc who you could probably swap him for rn

Preseason or not, you can't miss those wide-open, all-star game-style chances, bruv.

Another random note. My player uses the David Caruso motion style. It's quite effective, mixed in with the CP3 dribbling and that Booker stepback I mentioned before. Good times. The game was patched again today. Feels slightly more immersive just due to a simple post-match question right after most games, no cut scenes to get there, I like it.

Now back to your regular programming.

I was not ready for that jumpscare. :D No idea if I already knew, maybe I had forgotten, but when the camera went on him, his name didn't register immediately. But anyway, then it hit me, it's Darvin Ham, the Bucks assistant.

Darn didn’t know about Cljngan health. Don’t know much about clingan honestly who tf watches the blazers I watch one game a year from them. Dinwiddie indeed a hedge on your unfortunate franchise. But I felt like I should’ve had one more guy with PG/SG flex in case Monk or Luka go down. Suggs was a complete bottle no dispute there I choked under the time pressure esp w T-Rex arms now there

The fantasy basketball talk interests me. After going some years into the future of 2k, I now consider myself a student of the game. I'm now trying to put together a team for that 100 million for 10 players game. Bias to Walker Kessler could be my downfall, and he's the first player I selected. So much for being a student of the game. I know nothing.

Still, I feel in the NBA zone at the minute so anything to keep the proverbial rolling

TTW Fantasy BBall league?

Your team name is pending moderation. My goodness. NBA 2kbumsquad. Yeah, that name will cause some harm to the public. You do you, world.

But yeah, I can understand why it's called salary cap edition. I'm trying my best to get all sorts of unrealistic teams made up. A voice in my head is shouting

Where Curry at?

You reach, Smoove will teach.

Splash.

Sadly, we can't quite fit a 3.5 million player in there. 4.5 is as low as it gets, I think.

I’m totally in. As always, LeBron James Maddison.
Welcome to the most prestigious basketball league. I'm going to give a spoiler on one player. Gradey Dick is in. I just find it amusing because of 2k again. The commentator always seems to point out when ''Dick is unstoppable when he gets to that rim.'' Yeah, maybe I told you before or last 2k, since it's the same commentary lines they've had since 2005.

It was fun picking the team. Pretty sure it's complete. At least for week 1.
