You and the likes of Beckerserve and octogon are just frustrated that Djokovic has achieved such a huge milestone so soon after Nadal won RG(and in fairness it's understandable that you'd want the spotlight to be on your fave a bit longer)but at the end of the day that's your problem, not ours.
Glad you accept Nadal has been the best player in 2017 and 2019, i.e 2 of 3 completed full seasons. As i correctly pointed out Nadal has been the best player past 4 years.

Looking forward to it as im hoping for a calendar slam for Nadal. To win RG in his worse possible conditions the way he did points to a Calendar Slam if he can avoid injury so something to look forward to.
That's incredibly optimistic. But I rather Nadal fans be optimistic than like StrongRule.

Well, he was down 2 sets in R1 vs a brilliant in-form Johansson, and the referee basically screwed over Thomas on a big point, and then Becker vultured the rest of the match.

Then in QFs he gets to play an INDOOR match, which was almost unheard of at that point in slam tennis. Becker loved indoors conditions, fared much worse in the heat, rain, wind... Kafelnikov would have been far more dangerous with no roof on.

Then he gets WOODFORDE in the semis. Nuff said. That'd be like a Big 3 getting Zimonjic in the semis. (OK, a tad exaggerated.)

Then he gets big-finales pigeon Chang in the finale. Agassi basically dumped the semis vs Chang to avoid playing Becker, or so the legend goes.

Just total shambles, that AO 1996.

So much luck, I was convinced he signed a pact with The Horned One.

He then injured his wrist really badly at Wimby, as ONE of the favourites (not THE favourite as you claim), and it was all downhill from there. So maybe he did sign a short-term pact after all... The 1999 "incident", the divorces, the bankruptcies...
So you agree indoor tennis is irrelevant given Beckers 1996 indoor season. I agree. However his AO win was deserved and people cannot call out Nadal for complaining about the roof W2018 if they are going to say Becker got lucky because of a roof in 1996. As for wimbledon becker was nailed on to win it. At that time on fast courts Becker had no equal not even Sampras.

I would understand if you were responding to a negative comment about Nadal or another player. Here they are just celebrating their favourite player getting year end #6.
It seems unnecessary to try to ruin the thread with negative comments when you aren't being provoked.
How have i ruined it. Where have i criticised Djokovic. I simply said id take 20 Majors as a preference.

Well i just do not see who stops Nadal in the form he showed in paris on any surface unless Federer turns back the clock then federer will win W

Djokovic has had a good year. He’s shown grit in many matches where he hasn’t been at his best, and found ways to win.

As long as he finishes 2020 with the most points (basically a certainty I believe), he deserves congrats for YE1.

Nobody disputes that this truncated year. Past 4 years has been Nadals which we agree on clearly. So all is good. Nice to have a consensus.
I’m not sure you can group it into 4 years.
2020 has been fairly even in Slams, Djoko with the slight edge due to Masters.
2019 Nadal was the best.
2018 Djokovic
2017 Fedal even in slams, Nadal slightly ahead due to Masters.

Im not sure you can group it into 4 years considering there’s been so many ups and downs. For example Nadal has looked great at times, but also really struggled with injury.

Has he surrendered the slam race then? Shame really.
No thats coming next. After more difficult records are in the bag he can focus on slams only. The last meaningful record remaining. I do have a felling he will get that record too, but for Rafa to finish second best of his generation is still a remarkable accomplishment.

Damn, you must be a huge Becker fan! I mean, I would never tell from your username which only mentions a serve...

Of course Pete was the favourite. He won it 1993-1995, including a fairly convincing finale win over fellow servebot Becker just the year before.

Becker got LUCKY at AO96. Circumstances went his way. He hadn't won a slam in FIVE YEARS by that point. That tells us something, huh?

I just do what others do. Djokovic fans make blanket statements about 2011 to 2015 so only fair if Nadal and federer fans select periods as well.

2019 Nadal and Djokovic about even

Becker was the better player in 1995 until he fell and hurt his hip. Sampras could not handle his serve before that fall.
Agassi lost fair and square to Chang. I was there. Agassi was talking nonsense saying he avoided Becker. On hard courts he had beckers number. Chang was a hard match up for him as was Courier.
No luck for Becker. He got professional again for 12 months.

He had Becker's number - an understatement - but Andre was such a mental wreck by 1996 that he didn't want to deal with the "Becker drama" as he had at Wimby 1995 and USO 1995.

Hip injury? Sure, whatever...

Sampras usually outservebotted Becker during the 90s. Becker was not fearful of many players but he was in awe of Pete, whom he couldn't intimidate - coz how do you intimidate a robot?

Loving this debate. What dramas? Becker in mid 90s was a gentleman and not the 80s in your face becker.
Disagree about the serve. Becker on faster courts out aced sampras usually. It was on hard courts where i admit Boris got shown up by that golden generation of american players where his lack of comparative movement became a problem.
1995 still bugs me. Shoulf have won that match. Should have been 1996 WTF champ but for stupid RR format but that is lessened by 1995 when Sampras should have won when he was goating post august. Thats why i hate WTF btw. Stems from back then.

YE1 is not asterisked at all.
Is this for real? o_O

The whole season has been cobbled together on a wing and a prayer while a raging pandemic did its thing. Total disruption to the usual modes of operation.

As if the embarrassingly atrocious talent pool in the ATP wasn't enough, the entire 2020 season was beset by a global scourge.

Lol. Djokovic is done at Majors. He has all but admitted that. Had to win one of USO or FO. 21st Century will forever be Fedal.

Gentleman?

Becker was notorious for using subtle ways of annoying and intimidating his opponents, and I don't mean tennis-shots-wise. Mac was an obvious ass, like a child, but Becker was far more devious - when he felt he needed to be. Against Pete he didn't try these things much, coz, as I said: you can't instill fear and respect into an android.

WTF always annoyed me. So many problems with it, can't ever consider it higher than a M1000 in status. Though Sampras, Lendl and Djokovic fans will disagree for obvious biased reasons...

Was Becker doing those things in 1995 onwards?
Also was not Becker Mcenroe etc just products of their age? Sort of like that character out of the acclaimed British TV series Life on Mars Gene Hunt? Back then men were a bit more shall we say manly than nowadays. Do not remember Becker Mcenroe connors courier crying after winning. So what now seems dodgy behaviour back then was perhaps normal?

Right on.

Bizarre victory laps happening in here right now in a season torn up from top to bottom.

lol... the granddaddy of them all, Wimbledon, wasn't even contested.
Yep. Had Federer been fit and W played it would be 21-20 i think as well. Anyway its back to Fedal now as the lead Major wise too big. Lets see how Roger comes back.

I do agree with the general assessment that men are less manly with every generation, but you're implying Becker and Mac were the norm. They were not. Mac was a grade A ey-hole, and Becker was no saint either, though obviously not nearly as bad.

2011-2015 doesn't make much sense either to be fair. So many ups and downs in that 4 year period. 2011 was dramatically different from 2013.

Read Mcenroes book. The bit where he claims Borg retired because he felt he could not beat Mcenroe which then stopped Mcenroe winning more was so conceited that i agree with you.
Agree with what you say about WTF. That event needs a total restructure.

I read both his books.

I need to read Pete's too. "Learn thy enemy for that is how you shallt defeatst him."

PETE had 6 consecutive years at No 1.

Nuff said.
Never understood why is for some people consecutive success bigger than success in longer time span...

I mean you was great few years and that's it, you disappeared... With bigger time span you show greatness in longer period...
