~~~~~ The 90 Sq. In. Club ~~~~~
Finally got to hit with the new K90 with 16 gauge Synthetic Gut Multi at 55. I had the other K90 originally strung with 17 gauge at the same tension and found that it had a ton of power and tremendous spin potential. The strings moved all over the place and didn't last very long.
The 16 gauge provides less power, less feel and less spin potential. But the strings didn't move around that much after the first hit. I don't know that I'm really complaining though. It can cream the ball, hit great slice backhands and great topspin forehands and backhands and provides the great K90 stability.
The other racquet is ready with Lux and 16 gauge but I need to get someone to pick it up from the stringer. That should be interesting to hit with. I think that I'd like 17 gauge at 56 or 57 as the best string without regard to durability.
I use a K90. It is used primarily as a fun racket against people who are much lower then me. I also change my game drastically when I use this stick. I hit a lot more approach shots, volleys, and slice backhands with this racket. So there are some positive and negatives when comparing the K90 to a 100 square inch racket I use also. Its tougher hitting a two handed backhand with this stick thats why I hit more slice backhands with this racket compared to my other one and my baseline game isn't as good. So I guess I would be in this club even though its more of a fun racket and not my primary racket.
I have an RDS 001 mid with ashway kevlar 18 on the mains and 17 goosen synthetic on the crosses strung at 53 and 58 respectively. also, I have a Dunlop Pro Revelation 90 and just got in an RDX 500 mid which so far I am loving
Something wrong then honestly.. Unless you hit with extreme spin tnt16 should last 8-10 sets easy in a tournament.
Was talking about just straight up groundie hitting. Strings last longer in match play, because it is mostly waiting around, and even when you do play, it is mostly serving and returning.
No doubt in my mind that I would break TNT 16 well inside an hour in a practice hitting session.
I hit very hard, and with very heavy spin. It is about the only thing I am good at :).
NSix One Tour 90
I recently picked up NSix One Tour 90 - first impression was mixed. Noticed the racquet is perfect for my one handed backhand, offering more pop and control. However, I struggled with my forehand. After a few hours with the Tour 90 my arm started getting sore. I noticed that I was having a hard time with the leather grip. I added and changed overgrip - arm soreness is gone but the feel when I hit the ball is not there. I was about to dump the NTour 90 but decided to replace the leather grip with synthetic.
This turned out to be the best move - the performance of NTour 90 was far beyond my expectation. Get control, power, spin and slice - all in one racquet. Totally amazed with how deadly this racquet can do.
I heard people complaining about the stiffness and how unforgiving the NTour 90 ~ I think its because of the leather grip (it's not a macho thing; it is simply not for everybody). Adding overgrip is not the cure - its slips off because of the leather underneath it and it increases the grip size which can give your TE (another reason why people say the wilson grip are larger than other brand).
For those who have the N6.1 Tour 90 and are experiencing these issues. Solution is replace the leather with Synthetic grip. Try it (no need to add overgrip) - you'll be amazed with the NTour 90.
I still love my Yonex but this NSix One Tour 90 has raised my game to the next level and has gotten my attention.
Just over three months sice I bought the N 6.1 Tour....its benn a love and hate relationship though. During matches if I make mistakes I blame it on the racquet and get tempted to take out my MG ext. pro, but i can say that i love the wight it has and the feel I get. I have only been playing for a little over a year, and since I started out with a Dunlop 600, I really appreciate what 90 in. racquets do for my game.
N six one Tour 90. Prince Duraflex 16L 57lbs.
White over grip, just like Fed...
I bet this thread/this club gets a major bump in memberships once the Dunlop AeroGel 100 hits the States.
In terms of flex, it's supposedly similar to the 200. 90 head. A few grams lighter. 16 mains instead of 18. Great looking, from what I hear, like the 200.
Well, just thought I'd say hello.
Do you have any inside info that the Dunlop Aerogel 100 is indeed coming to the U.S.? If so, when? It's an awesome racquet. I love it!
I did a review on it a few months ago: http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=157349
It's been out in Europe for over a year but I've heard nothing about Dunlop finally bringing this great racquet to the U.S., although a lot of people here have been begging for it for a long time. Is it true? Has Dunlop finally woken up and smelled the coffee and found some sense and has decided to bring it over? I certainly hope so! :)
Its funny because I own the K90 and K95 and the weight felt almost identical. I think the reason why this is the case is becaue the K95 has 16 gauge strings while the K90 has 17 gauge strings. The thicker gauge may have made the racket a tad bit heavier. Also the grip on the K95 has more perspiration and sweat buildup that may explain the added weight compared to the 90.
The reason is that the K95 has a higher swingweight than the K90.
Yeah, man, great review...of a great stick. I've never even seen one up close, but you can bet I'm going to buy at least a pair.
They'll bring it to the US later this year. Of course this is totally hearsay through a guy I play with who teaches, who was walking by the office when the headpro was meeting with the Dunlop/Slazenger Rep. The director doesn't have any shipping info, but I did ask him to order me up at least a pair of 5/8s. Maybe more. They're not going to be expensive either. Probably b/n $320 ~ $350 for a pair.
Definitely exciting news.
Its not expensive in the uk either (in comparison with other 'top of the line' frames). And i'd urge anyone who gets the chance to hit with one to give it a go.
My feeling is that is that it plays similar to a prestige, nice n soft and seems to almost pocket the ball. I feel like i get loads of feedback from the ball prob due to the long dwell time on strings. But its got easier spin access than the 90in prestiges. Wouldnt swap it for anything else on the market. AK-90 has tempted me a few times tho!!
Wow, awesome!!! I hope Dunlop brings the AG100 over sooner rather than later. Thanks for the great news!! :)
I had a chance to hit with the K90 with Lux at 49 and Syn Gut at 55 (both 16-guage). It felt very nice. More spin capability than Syn Gut 16 at 55 though not quite as much feel. I think that full poly (16) at 49 would be good. Perhaps poly (17), maybe at 51 would be better. It shouldn't take long to go through my current two setups so experimentation with full poly is to com.
I got a used Prince O3 Tour Mid 2 weeks ago from the big auction - I was out of town when the racquet arrived. I was shocked when I opened the box. The O3 had deep scratches and big chips all over the frame (from the head to the throat). I checked the pic on the ad - it was not clear nor the seller had describe the imperfection on the ad. He just mentioned used and in great condition.
To cut the story short - I end up returning the O3 back for refund. Sad to see a nice o3 racquet gone to waste - seller claimed that the racquet was use for teaching and not abuse. then he added the scratches were result from the instructor hitting the basket with the racquet while in session. Hmm... racquet vs a metal tennis basket - Not abuse.
Go figure.....
O3 Tour gone....
Replaced it with Volkl Tour V 10 mid. Let's see if this one plays as same or better the FLXPT Prestige Mid
Please add me with my POG mid. It is so much more maneuverable than the OS that I had to switch. I am still framing a few too many shots, but this one is a keeper. The sweet spot feels pretty big, and topspin is great for a mid because of the 14x18 pattern.
RDX 500 mids-- I'm so stoked.
Just found a bunch of new RDX 500 mids in my grip size (3/8) and bought five for $540 shipped. Had been trying the MP and liking it but I'm a mid guy. Came down to the MG mid (amazing stick) and the RDX mid for me and had to go with the RDX. Had a few in the past and went with the RDS 001 mid-- also most excellent-- but prefer the sweet feel of that RDX. Had almost given up on finding any until now....
So BP, please count me in again with the RDX mid instead of the K90 (which has a sweetspot the size of a quarter or so). BTW, what string/tension set up did you like on your RDXs?
So now I've got to unload all of my Rok mids, FXP mids and Tour 90s. Shouldn't be too tough, but I've got something like 19 frames to move out. Is there an equivalent to AA for racquet junkies?
HarryZ - Tour90 is N6.1 Tour 90 right?
let me know if you are ready to unload Tour 90 or ROK 90 - I might be interested. pics /price to nwconnecxion@yahoo.com.
I am travelling to SPain this week - will be taking RDX500 mid with me (hopefully I can find time to hit with the locals).
QUestion for the club:
If one plays with the MG Mid Prestige.. since its advertised as a 93 in, but its really @ 89.5... is the owner allowed to enter the club?
Just curious.
Yes, you are allowed in. We go with what the headsize actually is, not what it's marketed to be. :)
Perhaps those with 95 sq in racquets could be let in with enough lead tape on the inside of the hoop.
Congrats on the great find on the RDX 500 Mids. I didn't think there were any left in new condition anywhere.
I still have one RDX 500 Mid that's hardly been used so it's still on its first stringjob which was strung by TW with Wilson Stamina at 58 lbs. I get the feeling that this is one of those racquets that can play well with many different strings at various tensions because the sweetspot is so huge.
Oh, yes, you're still in the club. :)
Huh? This club is not about the weight. It's ONLY about the headsize, and only 90 sq. in. heads qualify (89.5 is essentially 90). 85 sq. in. (PS 6.0 85, etc.) or true 93 sq. in. (e.g., K-Blade Tour, etc.) do not qualify.
Again, this is the "90 Sq. In. Club", and not the "13.0 oz. Club". ;)
Lead tape can be used to reduce the hitting surface area.
I think if you added that many layers of lead tape to make a 95 into a 90, your racquet would probably weigh 5 pounds!! :lol: LOL
In any case, it MUST be 90 sq. in. from the factory to qualify. Racquets modified to be 90 sq. in. do not count.
question for BreakPoint
Hey BreakPoint, I'm not officially a member of this club, but I do have a question for you. I demoed the Yonex RDS 001 mid today and wanted to know if you could give a brief comparison between the RDS and the Aerogel 100. I enjoyed hitting with the Yonex and found that it was stable on groundstrokes, and easy to volley with. I was a bit surprised at how lively the string bed felt and it seemed really easy to generate a lot of spin. I was hitting a lot of spin on second serves without much effort at all. Hard, flat first serves were great as well as the racket just flies through the ball.
I'm interested in the Aerogel 100 because I'm partial to Dunlop because of McEnroe and my Aussie coach. Could you compare the Aerogel 100 with the RDS 001 in terms of spin production, power level, stability at net and off the ground, and the sweetspot size (some on these boards have said that the Yonex plays much larger than a 90).
Thanks.
Hi A.J. Sim,
The AG100 swings much easier and is more maneuverable than the RDS 001 Mid because it's more headlight. It also has a bit more inherent power and serves bigger and is easier to to generate spin with. However, the RDS is more stable and has a bigger sweetspot. Both are good at the net and both have a crisp feel to them. They are both excellent racquets. If you like the RDS, you should at least try and demo the AG100.
Hope that helps.
ah, the POG mid----great frame. It's truly astonding how Prince hit it huge from the points of view of both mid and oversize with the same model. Truly classics
Yeah, I love this frame. I bounced around and tried all the wilson mids just cause I like Courier and Fed but I always came back to this one. It just seems to fit.
