There are very few pictures online of the original Blue/yellow LIMITED donnay which Agassi used only between 1989 and 1991 (Then switched to the orange/grey). As many of you people know, this racquet has NEVER been sold.

Here is a picture

If you have pictures of the original LIMITED in blue/yellow, please post here, I think they could be very interesting. What's happened to these racquets? Do you know any person who has one?

I remember, there was the agassi signature in one horn of the throat (where you find "limited edition" in the replica).

Actually, I believe they were sold retail as I owned one in HS (ala 1990). No head guard, Donnay blue leather grip, "Pro One" lable at 12 o'clock, "Donnay" at 3 and 9 o'clock, and "Made in Belgium" on the throat. No Agassi signature though. Maybe I didn't have the original that you're speaking of? I don't know exactly. Anyway, I ended up cracking it and moved on to the Orange/Grey Limited Editions that I still own. The Yellow/Blue frames were brilliant sticks, just prone to heavy scarring from the lack of head guard. I remember protecting the exposed hoop with head guard tape back then.

I believe they show up on the auction site every once in awhile. Before these Pro Ones I actually owned a slightly thicker framed model of the Pro One in Yellow/Blue. I don't recall the model name. Same paintjob, just wider beam and the red butt cap stuck out. I didn't like it at all.

I'm not sure why they discontinued the Yellow/Blue. It would've been cool to see TW reissue that paintjob instead of the Orange/Grey.

The mold of the one he actually used was NEVER sold as yellow/blue to the public. The one you're thinking of, I had one too back in highschool as well. That was the ORIGINAL Donnay Pro One they gave Agassi to use that he didn't like and rejected. Since they already had the R&D and production done on them, I guess Donnay figured they mine as well sell it. The reworked one that Agassi got is known as the Pro One Limited Edition, which was released to consumers as the Orange-pink/Grey model and the color scheme the TW chose when the brought them back briefly.

I never seen Agassi playing with the rejected blue/yellow. In all the pictures I have seen, he uses the limited in blue/yellow pattern. If you watch at the Us Open final 1990 he is using the limited edition in blue/yellow pattern.
I have a picture in a magazine, where you can see the signature.
Here it is:

The orange/grey, also had the signature in white (where you see "limited edition" in the commercial version)

Hmm, I have the commercial orange/grey frame but no signature.

From my recollection, he probably never actually used the original Blue/Yellow Pro One in a tournament. Mostly what I remember was seeing in Tennis Magazine, pictures of him with an all black painted POG with a Donnay stencil on the strings and an article about his switch and how he didn't like the first Pro One they gave him to use. Of course Donnay still went ahead and sold that racquet to the public. I wish they would've sold the Limited Edition, the one he actually used, in the Blue/Yellow paint scheme.

You can also notice the signature in the match between Agassi and Connors in the us Open 1989. At the beginning of the 4th set, Andre loses the rubber band from the donnay, and reinstalls it. You can notice the signature, when he turns the racquet. So he started to play immediately, with that model.

Andre was definitely using it here.

Not limited edition, but here are mine.

I meant Andre never used the mold of the original consumer Pro One model of the same Yellow/Blue color. I remember looking closely in magazine pictures in 1989 and the one he held looked like it had a boxier beam profile compared to the consumer one I owned. I'm fairly sure that when Donnay signed him and gave him that original Pro One they made, that's the one he didn't like and had them redo it. Eventually that mold became the Limited Edition, but it makes no sense for him to continue using the original design after he didn't like it. They probably just made it for him without the signature initially and then later put it on.

Here you can see clearly the LIMITED Edition Mold which later was sold to the public as the grey/orange one. It has a more polished rounded mold as you can see.

BTW, there was a fake orange/grey edition out there as well, it was a NON Limited Edition, which was the sh*ts to play with.

Ace0001a is right, he never used the original blue/yellow in a tournament, though he briefly used the original but just in practice, soon after he switched to the orange / gray mold with blue/yellow paintjob.

The yellow/blue was the first real tennis racquet I ever had. Seemed to me that the yellow/blue was at least out for a year or more before orange/gray, but that was a long time ago. Seems I used it in 10th grade, then when I was in 12th grade others on team started using the orange/gray. Might be wrong.

I busted it up pretty good without a headguard for protection and finally broke it into my 12th grade year.

I also had the smaller headed yellow/blue from Donnay that came out around same time. It might've been a widebody type racquet in this line.

Can't believe AA didn't actually use this racquet. That was the whole reason I bought one back then. My whole "career" has been based on a fraud:wink:

Looks more like the original mold to me, not the Limited One.

I don't know what you're looking at and you really can't tell from those pictures. But it has been well discussed that he NEVER used the original mold of the yellow/blue Pro One sold to the public. He might've used it in practice, but they were quickly rejected and is why he started out his contract with Donnay using all black painted Donnay stenciled POGs because he didn't like the Pro One they first gave him. The mold of the Limited Edition was the one Donnay reworked and gave him to use. That one remained yellow/blue for him until that came out with the Pink-Orange/Gray one. When Donnay changed colors is when they decided to release it to the public as the "Limited Edition" model. I think the reason Donnay sold the original yellow/blue Pro One was because they already had it in production by the time they signed Agassi and so they had to sell what they already produced. About 2 years later in 1991, they came out with the Limited Edition. Sounds about right since racquet companies usually go through 2 year life cycles. In 1993, Donnay came out with the "news print" design paintjob Pro One while still using the same mold.

The "news print" design came out in the fall of 1992 just after the U.S. Open. Agassi used the "news print" at the 1992 U.S. Open.

Sorry, brain fart on my part...you're right it was 1992. He switched to Head in 1993. Been a long day at work and my brain bogs down afterwards.

The Pro One newsprint paintjob were Made in Taiwan if I'm not mistaken. Do you think Agassi uses Made in Belgium with newsprint paintjob or the stock Made in Taiwan.

I have an OS Newsprint LE like in the pic. They're Made in Belgium.

I've still got a few pics from the one i sold a couple of months ago. It was an unfinished one, no grip yet and no grommets (holes were still unfinished):

Agassi never even used the newsprint, it was still the orange/gray mold made in Belgium underneath.

Hmmm are you sure it says "Made in Belgium" and not "Designed in Belgium" or just "Belgium", most of that batch were made in Taiwan.

I stand corrected it just says Belgium.

Ericsson what grip size are those. Interested in selling one?

Was the news print Pro One a different mold??? I have a friend who bought a couple and I remember comparing them to my LE and the beam profile looked and felt the same (unlike the original consumer yellow/blue Pro One). Agassi's were most likely made for him in Belgium with news print paintjob during his last year with Donnay.

I have two left but sorry they are not for sale...

Same mold but Agassi never switched to the real newsprint, just the paint means his was still made in the land of beer and chocolates.

Forgive me if this has already been brought up, but if I recall correctly in his book, Agassi stated that he hated playing with the Donnay rackets and after a few tournaments he started using his old Head with a Donnay PJ. It makes a great collector's item, but is this Donnay really a good racket or does it possess the problems that Agassi stated and is it even worth playing with?

You're not recalling correctly ;)

He switched to Donnay (under pressure from bolletieri) after using Prince for all his life. he said he couldn't play with the first version of the Donnay and went back to his old Prince with a Donnay paintjob (painted by Bolletieri), which didn't please Donnay of course. After talking to Donnay they went back to the drawing table and copied his Prince (of course without the center bar) and he took it up.
