The Babolat Pure Strike Project Two Zero Thread

I need some help with my new PS 20.
I bought 2 racquets : first = 307g,SW -295 second = 308,8 g,SW =302 ... how much lead tape/blue tack should I add for perfect matching ?

Just add 2 grams of lead at 12 oclock on your second to get matching sw. If you really wanna get the 3 grams extra matched then just add some extra finishing tape on your overgrips on racquet 1 or put 2-3 grams of blutac via trapdoor. Measure your balance also in case the figures are way different.

But ..adding 2 grams on my second it will increase the weight...it will be 5 grams between...

I had a solid two week hitting with my trusty set up. Higher swingweight and power but way less feedback. Not for me. Staying with my 1st gen pure strike

Way less feedback compared to what? Your first gen Pure Strike?

Yes. Actually compare to my 1st gen pure strike, 2nd gen pure strike, and new blade V7, the new 3rd gen pure strike has the least feedback and most muted feel

How would you compare it to the Blade v7? I believe you also demoed the PDVS?

I actually bought PDVS lol I had such high expectation for PDVS but ended up with huge disappointment. Comparing the 3rd gen pure strike with blade V7, the blade V7 has less spin and power, but better feel and control.

I don’t know about 1st gen. 3rd gen has better feel than 2nd, it’s more plush... ball stays longer on the string and as a result it’s more predictable/control. I was spraying way more balls with 2nd gen. It’s more muted due to less vibrations reaching on the hand and despite this feel is better. I don’t know how they achieved that.... also almost zero vibrations on mishits or outsider sweet spot and in general it plays more solid and stable. It has more power but easier to tame it. With 2nd gen i had issues when going for the lines or winners.... now things are a little bit better. My main issue is with the increased SW which made difficult the timing on serves. 3rd gen is a more of a players racquet stick... drop shots and touch shots are a joy. Super stable on volleys and slice. It shines on returns. Keep in mind that despite Babolats marketing about 3rd gen being more friendly for the arm i have to agree that it has improved.... but still it’s not total pain free for my sensitive arm.

Ps. I ve ordered a stick close to the official specs. Stung SW is 327,5. I strung it with RPM Blast/23Kg

1st gen is not the most stable and easy to use racket but imo it’s one of the best offering both control power and spin. I do agree with you that 3rd gen has a more plush feel compare to 2nd gen and the ball does stay longer on the string bed. But unlike you said, technically I believe the ball coming off the string bed quicker means better control (that’s why we always say higher tension gives better control because the ball don’t stay that long on a fresh string bed)

Or is it that the higher tension takes some of the power off the shot?...maybe both(?)

Today I saw the new PS at my tennis shop. I did not have the opportunity to demo but just by taking a few "air swings" in the shop it felt quite heavy to me. The official datasheet providing official specs attached on the racquet states that the new 16x19 has a SW=305 unstrung. It is pretty high and this value is equal to the unstrung weight. It must be a pretty polarized frame. Considering specs variations, a good % of these racquets must have a SW>310. I appreciate that Babolat gives us that info, not all brands do.

Yes. Lower tension usually means more power because the ball sinks into the stringbed a bit more and then shot the ball out with more power

There is a bit more to it I think but type of string is a factor. For instance, all things equal yes string lower tension equates to more pop. I also find on a crisp poly that lowering also gives more feel of pocketing which really gives me confidence on my aim.

Apologies if I offend you ... but your assertion is totally incorrect when applied to a tennis racquet in the hand of a tennis player hitting an incoming tennis ball.

There is plenty of information out there to explain why your statement is wrong scientifically. Respectfully suggest you do a little research into the subject. You might be very surprised at what you learn.

Agree. The quicker a ball comes off of a stringbed the faster the ball will be moving through the court towards your opponent. The longer the ball stays in the stringbed the more time it will take to get through the court to the other side. And yes... this is scientifically proven to be fact.

So why do people lower tension to get more distance?

My understanding was that energy is lost by the ball during the collision with the string bed. The stiffer the string bed, the more energy that is lost in the collision and less energy returned in the opposite direction. A softer string bed will absorb some of the energy and return it in the same way that a trampoline does. Is this not correct?

Has anyone had a chance to hit with the Gen 3 PS vs the v7 Blade extensively? How do they compare?
Not extensively but I played a whole match of doubles alternating back and fourth and ps3 was easier to control and easier to use, had more power and felt more head light, felt like it had lower sw (not sure if true didn’t measure) and bladev7 had more feel was more comfortable more plow even when blade was full poly and strike was hybrid

Anyone actually switched from Project 17 to 3rd gen 16*19?

Beacause after all the reviews, there is little information on how they compares.

I’ve switched from 2nd gen to 3rd. Took me a bit to get use to the higher swing weight but overall i like how subtle the change was and how now i feel my shots have more weight on them.

Feel is muted but also has less impact on my arm/elbow. I still have my 2nd gen just Incase but have grown to really like the 3rd gen more and more each time i hit with it.

Thanks for the information. So the reason you switching is mostly because of comfort and feel? In term of performance they are about the same?

I switched from 2G to 3G as well. Other than the minute weight / SW differences, the muted feel is a bit exaggerated--either that or I'm insensitive, which is unlikely since I'm far too sensitive for my own good when it comes to tension and strings. It's definitely there, but you wouldn't notice it unless someone mentioned it to you or you are looking out for it. Then again, my 2G is very used and would have lost a fair bit of flex from weekly restringing since 2017, and I use a full bed of RPM, so YMMV.

I did note that the launch angle was a tad higher and slightly more powerful, sending my normal shots a bit long but that may be the result of the strings, which appear to have lost a fair bit of tension during international FedEx delivery from TW Europe to Hong Kong, not to mention the number of days lost on various flights around Europe before it finally left the continent.

But if you liked the 2G, then the switch to 3G is going to be seamless for the most part.

One of my friends bought one 3rd gen 16/19 and strung with RPM rough at 52lbs. Surprisingly very smooth feel and much better feedback than mine with Tour Bite. I’m very excited for the upcoming rpm power now.

Have been eyeing pure strike for a while now, from the start of 2nd gen. Am a dr98 user and been looking for a bit more forgiving power, but stayed away from babolat due to feedbacks on the arm issues. But decided to demo the latest update of PS and it is amazing. Enjoying my SHBH, effortless serves. Only that my FH sometime sails long (hardly with dr98). Probably needs some more time to dial in. But overall a great racquet! My demo came with with hybrid setup - alu power/rpm blast @ 53lbs, thought it was great and so went for the same in mine. May try my goto string volk cyclone 17lbs as well later. BTW, have been playing with this stick for free weeks now, can't feel any arm discomfort.

Depends on personal taste. Second gen Project One7 is very much like a pure drive with smaller head size. More open string pattern than the 1st gen brings more pop and spin, but touch and feel is gone. However that’s what a typical pure drive or pure aero characteristics, so I guess that’s why 2nd gen is more widely used by players, especially formal Babolat users. 3rd gen has a little bit softer touch and little bit better feel than 2rd gen. For me, 1st gen pure strike is still my favorite, and I’ll rank 3rd gen slightly better than 2nd gen Project One7.

Any string recommendations? Current setup is alu power/rpm blast @ 53lbs. Am still getting adjusted to the trajectory (may be launch angle as some refet), tend to hit the net on some of my shots (incoming ball , normal to low bounce) which would normally be an easy clearance with dr98. Probably less whippier than dr98, need to adjust my swing path and speed.

The P17 one with the bright orange near the bottom of the throat. Imo Babolat grip size runs slightly big. I normally use a 4 3/8 in all brands except for Wilson (4 1/2) and Babolat (4 1/4)

Try a multi filament in the mains with alu power crosses @56/53 lbs for the 16x19 model.

If you want more control and spin put rpm blast in the crosses and make sure the multi is 16g with either setup.

I'm using gosen tecgut multi cx 16g with solinco hyper G 17g@48/46 lbs because mine is the P17 18x20.

The other I have gosen tecgut multi cx 16g/ head hawk 17g at the same tension.

Played a seniors ITF 35+ event and the setups performed pretty well.

Gut mains with poly cross. I did not like all poly in this racket... and I've been an all poly guy forever.
