The Best Thing About Federer's Win Over Djokovic + Nadal Final Analysis

... is that Djokovic was playing his, if not very best, then almost best tennis yesterday. Essentially the same level of tennis he's been playing at throughout his winning streak. He would have beaten 99.99999% of the entire ATP tour in that semi playing the way he was... including Nadal.

And here comes mighty Federer... the mighty mighty Federer. Takes him OUT in four clutch sets. Even if he loses in straights tomorrow against Nadal due to the bad matchup effect (which is dramatically pronounced on clay), I'm still very very pleased with him getting past Djokovic... the MAN OF THE MOMENT.. the man and streak that every professional on the ATP tour dreamed about ending.

So Roger... I say go out tomorrow, give it all you've got and see what happens. I will be very happy if you take a set away from Nadal.. even better.. push it to five!!! If you lose you lose.

Let's be honest, everyone's expectations for Federer are very low against Nadal in this Final. Thus he's not really got anything to lose... he's already won his French title. Nadal is trying to tie Borg... AND simultaneously he has the added pressure of making sure his superiority over Federer on clay is maintained.. he knows if he loses here in the FO Final against an almost 30 year-old Roger, his clear superiority will be majorly damaged, despite still having the better record than Fed at the FO and beating him in three other title matches here.

So, Federer should come out swinging, relaxed, loose. It's his 23rd Grand Slam Final... so he's been in this situation countless times, oh the veteran champ he is. He should really enjoy himself out there. He's not got much to lose, everyone expects the bad matchup effect to take its toll. But... if only..................................... may the tennis Gods favour Roger tomorrow.

Fed won due to great service, solid backhand and Djoker choking slightly w/the pressure of nabbing number one had he won the match IMHO... he was sloppy on the court and nowhere near his best. He didn't seem too into the match either... However, GO FED GO !

BTW if Fed wins does this place Djoker in the number one spot anyone?

You're obviously not a true fan (despite what you may claim), clearly implied through your tone. Nothing was "gay" about what I said, there was no excessive adulating or hero-worshipping. Thanks for being unbiased and objective... or not.

The fact of the matter is, if Federer loses.. the status quo is maintained and the tennis world is not perturbed. If, however, Federer somehow, and by somehow I really mean somehow, can pull off an epic upset... the entire tennis community will be rattled and shaken up. It would be huge.

What's gay about that? Hater. :)

It's only a game, but tomorrow's "game" potentially has the weight of history beneath it. Very gay.

Coming from the man/woman with one of the most notoriously negative reputations around here for being the ultimate Nadal apologist and fanboy = biggest anti-Federer basher. Riiiiiight.

Your post holds water. :D

It does seem like the pressure is on Nadal this time. Nadal's signs of weakness are recent. Being dominated by Djokovic this season, even on clay. On the other hand, Fed's fading level is old news. His recent win over Djokovic has made him relevant again and a loss to Nadal won't change that. Not only that, but Fed's already won RG this time around.

It just seems like Nadal has a lot more to lose. That, coupled with the fact that Fed's in pretty good form and Nadal has looked vulnerable. I'd be surprised if Nadal dominated Fed tomorrow. I expect Rafa to win, but (for the first time) I'm expecting a good final between the two. And I wouldn't be surprised to see Fed dig out a win.

lol at those thinking Djokovic played his best. He was way off yesterday due to the 4 day break. Fognini is a *******.

lol. I am a Federer fan and I can say for sure that Novak did not play his best tennis yesterday.

Then again, when Federer lost in Australia to Djokovic I said that Federer could have played better and I got told off by a few Djoker fans.
