The best thing about tennis

... is that it can become an addiction - a good addiction. A great addiction. Keeping you away from boozy nights, drugs, big regular nights out that ... which like I just found out now from a friend ... can lead you to having a stroke.

It helps us chill. Gives us focus. Health. Fun. I think having tennis as part of someones lifestyle is as holistically beneficial as practicing yoga.

I'm going to be a dad soon. But I look forward to mixing my life's balance with tennis, family and friends - without the boozy nights out. I'm done.

A great post iga111 - I love playing different players with their slightly different styles.

It's also the gladiatorial thing too. Whacking the ball back hard from your opponents powerful shot is particularly satisfying for me.

Must remember though to not get carried away with winning.

The real winner is the person on the court who plays with the most dignity and honesty.

Great post. It won't be long before you can add to your joy by training junior to pick up balls while you take a breather and hydrate.

Make it a family thing. Get your wife involved too. This is critical. If you have a daughter, she will model Mommy. If Mommy loves sports and fitness and tennis, she will too.

OP: you're going to enjoy teaching your son the sport. We bought a little tennis net setup that we put in the driveway. Just a blast with the foam balls. And he'll play more when he gets older. It's great.

I like what you say about a positive addiction. These really exist and can go a long way towards boosting us as human beings. I'm always deeply impressed by the fact that, the more you do it, the better you get. So anyone should be able to take a mediocre forehand, and with enough invested effort, turn it into a weapon, e.g.
