The best way to take off the original grip?

Hi, I have a brand-new racquet and I would like to take off the original grip, and wrap the handle with some padding and then put the original grip back on it.

So, before I proceed, what is the best way to peel off the original grip in order to accomplish the following?

1. To leave the handle as clean as possible. Last time I took the original grip off, it left messy residues on the handle. Any idea that will save me a sand-paper job will be greatly appreciated.

2. To leave the original grip in the best shape possible, since I will be re-using it.

Thanks.

This will be a prokennex.

Well, it's interesting that you should mention Yonex. The one I messed up before was a Yonex.

Yeah, with Yonex, I swear half the base grip thickness is because of that damn yellow glue they slather on. I do not have experience with Pro Kennex.

I use eucalyptus oil to remove the left over bits on the handle. Removes glue particularly well. Not sure if you can get that in the States though.

Try WD40... takes care of a lot of adhesives..

EDIT: By WD40 I mean any lubricant
So lubricating the the shaft will help get any excess gunk off? I tend to have that problem a lot and it's really annoying

Yea, the adhesive stuff. Not sure about this "gunk" since my handles have been fairly clean, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

I get this stuff at my boating supply called "adhesive off". It's used on boat hulls to get hull numbers off cleanly but I use it for any adhesive residue, it's citrus based, not as toxic and won't hurt your racquet or plastics. works like a charm and cleans up better than wd40 or spray and wash types that leave oily residues.
