The Big Interview: Jimmy Connors

All i know is that he was a cocky idiot when he had a interveiw after 1 of the british tournaments. Completley putting down all of the young guns coming up throught the ranks and saying about all of the amazing players of the modern era that it was all the new technology and no talent.

Guys, Im curious. What is Connors like in the commentary booth?

Jimbo was solid in the booth. Very professional. Called it down the middle. Hopefully he'll call a few matches for an American network.

Connors always was a very wise man.

Glad it was bumped. I enjoyed reading the article.

Jimbo: "You don’t become No 1 by beating No 1,000." Ha, ha, love it.

Whatever happened to Jimmy playing Donald Trump in the tennis version of "The Apprentice"? Actually, that's one reality show I think could be fun to see - juniors in tennis being taken under the wing of a former pro like Jimmy or Mac, going through training, tournaments, Futures, Challengers, etc. and seeing how they succeed or fail.

OMG!

Mother Marjorie LOVES Jimmy Connors!

Its great to see that he's come out of seclusion. He's still a handsome devil, he is!

The more I read about Jimmy the better I like him. Great interview and even better answers than I though he'd have.
I think he does a great job when he's in the announcing booth. Not like a lot of the others that just have to keep constantly talking during the whole match. He says what he needs to say and that's all. I enjoy actually hearing the balls being hit and not someone talking the whole time.

Nice interview. Connors is not someone I'd want to have lunch with I don't think. But, I like his style.

Actually, I think he was considered a major disappointment. Zero personality, no real insight, not funny, not witty.....not even controversial. I think all the things people were expecting to be (which Mac turned out to be) were based on his court exploits. In the booth, he was a fish out of water....saying basic axioms....and he kept mixing metaphors or saying common truisms backwards. Often Enberg would push him to say something, or Bud Collins would try to joke with Jimmy...Jimmy would just laugh...he had no response!

It turned out he just wasn't very good....not witty...not insightful. He was better than a MJ fernandez etc....but pretty poor overall. I believe that's likely why it didnt' last that long, and nobody ever looked back.
