The Brandon Bandwagon - a Brandon Nakashima appreciation thread

Brandon falls in four to Jannik Sinner. He did manage to snatch the first set with some impressive tennis, but could not withstand the onslaught of heavy ground strokes coming from the other side of the net.

Yeah Sinner amped up his game in the last 3 sets. He started standing in New Jersey for Nakashima's serves and stopped making so many errors. Nakashima didn't really adjust to it. I think it was the 4th? set he returned 100% of Nakashima's 1st serves. Brandon doesn't currently have the weapons to compete with Sinner when he starts hitting with more pace. Similar to the match between Alcaraz and Brooksby.

looks like hes playing insane good with this new yonex

The bandwagon has slowed. Curious to see if Brandon is able to snag the win over Wawrinka in Cincy. They played last year during the indoor season and it was pretty close, but Stan walked away the winner.

Seems like he’s investing in his game and taking a step back to try to take two steps forward. Switching his racquet is part of this it seems.

His volleys aren’t quite as precise as they used to be and he’s hitting a lot flatter than he used to. His serve has improved noticeably. He’s not winning but he’s close to wherever he’s heading

Who's his coach now? He's been attacking the net a lot more. He's a natural baseliner. It's weird to see. We saw him win his first futures when he was 17. Clean hitter. Should hire nalbandian as a coach.

What happened to Rune? Nakashima has been off for a while, and this is a good win for him, but Rune must have been in dire form.

Probably just too much stuff going on in the Rune camp and he was an unforced error machine but credit to Brandon he played terrific though.
Brandon hasn't looked 100% comfortable since his change in racquet -- especially on his backhand side. Getting better bit by bit

Safe to say Brandon had a rough year in '23, his ranking is around 134 right now, do we think he's going to make it back into the top 100 this year ? Maybe he should think about asking Wayne Ferreira to be his coach ?

It can't hurt to bring on someone like Ferreira, but perhaps a fitness coach might be more helpful. He's had a few problems with injuries to his knees.

Wow, just saw the Rublev score, that's impressive, although Rublev is clearly struggling lately. Good win over Evans as well.

Good job winning two rounds of qualies at Madrid, faces Bagnis in the first round which might be winnable.

Kid won the NextGen ATP finals in 2022 and the three previous winners were Alcaraz, Sinner and Tsitsipas. What’s he doing scrambling in qualies instead of rising to the top 10?

He was top 45 before a knee injury, it happens. I don't think anyone expected him to be as good as those guys though. Beat Evans and Rublev last week, which is pretty good.

He's never had the game to be on the same level as those guys. Let's not be delusional about his abilities.

Good to see him win two rounds at Wimbledon, I believe he should be just outside the top 50 next week, even assuming he loses to Umbert on Friday.

What shall we do if he wins three rounds at Wimbledon?
I think he lost to Kyrgios in the 4th round the year Nick made the final. Took a set or two off of him. He's a strange cat, excellent spot server. Wimbledon is his best major.

Solid performance vs Cazaux. His work on forehand and serve paying off, seems to be giving fewer points away on return of serve so that's another weakness he seems to be working on. Interesting to see his discipline around taking a step back to take two steps forward -- eating a lot of losses along the way. If he had been higher ranked when he started this, he might not have been able to fly under the radar. Rune needs to do the same thing, but he's already been a top 10 player he won't get a free pass.

And Tsitsipas..and Felix...at some point you have to embrace change or keep expecting the same results.

Good to see that Brandon is up to the challenge. The bandwagon rolls on to the 3rd round.

Brandon takes out the 18th seed and reaches the 4th round of the US Open. Second time reaching the 4th round at a major, after first making the cut at Wimbledon 2022.

Now sits at #39 in the live rankings.

I hopped on the Brandwagon back in '19 when I saw a young Brandon reach the semi's of the Fairfield Challenger. Super clean strokes.

The bandwagon rolls to a halt in the 4th round at the US Open, as Zverev takes the last three sets quicky after losing the first to Brandon.

Major results for 2024:

AO - Q1 (Mensik, 2 sets)
RG - 2r (Hurkacz, 4 sets)
W - 3r (Humbert, 4 sets)
USO - 4r (Zverev, 4 sets)

Not a bad way to end the year for a guy who lost in the first round of qualifying at the first major of 2024.
