The Cult of PT57

Compared to an i.Prestige MP or a Radical Tour that you can find for 50-100 euros, i wonder if they would really improve ones game by a factor of x5 to x10, to justify the price difference....
Allow me to be sceptical 8-B

Totally allowed. With the price difference you can get 5 Radical Tours and have them all sent to CTR for some really great paint. I have one Rad Tour zebra on the way, and if I can find a second it's going for blackout treatment.

Honestly, no it probably does not make me play better relative to the price point compared to a comparable retail racket.

I personally got it as a mix between my fascination with rare racquets and wanting to try what Andy Murray uses. I personally found it worth the investment so far.

@vsbabolat, @dr325i and other Head aficionados - I’ve seen a Head Radical Tour ‘Zebra’ MP for sale and it has the hairpin code TK57A-2. It’s not been advertised as a prostock with ‘Zebra’ paint. I would have expected the code TK57B to be there as Zebras and Candycanes are meant to be PT57Bs. See image below;

I have since read on a forum specialising in strings that early versions of Zebras did indeed have TK57A-2 printed on the hairpins which were ‘notched’ and later ones TK57B without notches on the hairpins.

Please can this be explained to me as I’m somewhat confused!

Hello PT57 lovers,

my name is Michael an i am new here. I read this thread and others with enthusiasm.

I've been looking for a pt57a for a long time. I own a Pt57b Candycane and thought of buying a pt57e for cheap. Upon arrival, however, this turned out not to be an MP but rather a Head Intelligence prestige mid-size. Which is probably not one of the pt57's. It's still a very nice racquet.
I have now bought a Youtek prestige prestige, which should be a PT57a - paintjob.
I thought the beam was 20 mm on the pt57a. Now I'm not sure if it's really a pt57a. The paint job says 21 mm beam.
That should be my Sunday raquet and only leave the place of honor in the room now and then.
I come from Germany and hope my English is okay (also rely on partial translation ).
The raquet hasn't arrived yet, but I'm trying to share photos from the online purchase.
I would be grateful for an assessment.

For future reference TK291A grommets did come in red and they do fit a PT57A 16x19, but they are square at the bottom and slightly lower quality than TK293A. Anyone have a link for red TK293A grommets?

Can you explain what you saw in the difference in quality? Are the more brittle or flimsy? thinking of getting 291As grommets casue I'm looking for red grommets but if they're that bad I'll just go for the clear Tk293As...

Just got back into tennis in the last 3 months after close to a decade away.

I've tried many rackets, notably an RF97, various models of Wilson Blades, a Pure Strike (v3), an Angell TC95 16x19. Nothing that could make me feel comfortable.

Then I fished out my old i.Prestige from the closet, strung it up with some Solinco Hyper G, and it played like a dream. Like an extension of my arm almost. Now balls just go where I want them to, and somehow I'm just better able to process the feel from the frame. It's hard to describe the feeling, but all I do is daydream about my last session and look forward to my next one.

I'm so glad I still had my old i.Prestige lying around. Last week I decided to commit, and managed to find another prestine on from a seller locally. I also picked another 2 pieces off ****, and they're on the way. I think I'm gonna stay with these frames for quite awhile.

I'm just so excited that I had to share.

This racquet is really awesome!

So I managed to gather all my sticks for a pic. Think I’m pretty set for a good while. 4 viable i.Prestiges. One cracked one (on the right) which I scavenged pallets from.

Looks like even back in the day they had paintjobs. This is obviously not a pro tour since not box beam ;)

Different grommet too but I'm not so sure if it's PT paintjob... maybe it's original pj for this model?
These days Head has had many pj with this same scheme (black, colour, black, colour) done by aerograph and the number of colours is limited ;)

But maybe you're right... if so then nice find.

True, could be. Unfortunately i don’t find a picture where one can see it from the side. But it looks blue/black. I don’t know of any other model from this time with these colors

Yes, I can recall purple, yellow, green, few shades of red but only PT with blue... but there were so many models and changing colours with generations (e.g. Prestiges or Pro Tour Lite from green to red) that I'm sure I can't recall even 50% of colours used :)

To mee it seems a PT630.
Mold seems not boxed actually, but I think it could be a "light" effect or something like that.

To me: on 2nd and 3rd pic. it's PT but on the 1st one it looks like more on the eliptic side than on boxed one. But, as you said, it could be a light effect because on the 1st pic. even black looks like dark green :)

And we should keep in mind that 1995 was for sure after Edberg was forced by W. to play his PS85 in PS95 pj so we're in the "pj epoch" ;)

Sure it could be...pj existed also at Laver time and, maybe, even before.
It just does not come up o my mind what could be an elliptic-shaped beam Head racket of that period that resemble so much a PT630, that's why I opted for the "light effect" :)

does anyone know -if set to the same specs- why the pro tour 630 feels so much better and more stable than the pt57a. Whats the difference and how can I get my pt57as to feel like my pro tour?

Any thoughts on if the PT57A2 (16x19) is a good "spin racket"?
I know pt57 is good for precision. I have modeled my game as a topspin heave game, but want a flexible racket. doesn't need to be the "best" spin racketm but is it even in the right category?

I was looking at this chart (don't have any sources), and Andy Murray had a really low spin compared to other players. I know his racket is also ridiculously heavy.

I mean it is a little a question of taste but all the Radical Tours I had, bumblebee, zebra and CandyCane are fantastic if you can move them. Feelwise awesome. I took of the pallets if I am not mistaken off the bumblebee and I saw on the hairpin "TK59", so this is the mould. Wonderful frame. I started playing tennis with it, now you know that I am not that young :).

I would imagine Murray is more on the low end of spin because of his technique and because as you say his racquet is so damn heavy it's harder for him to get racquet head speed and vertical motion in his stroke.
If your PT57 is lighter and lower swing-weight than his, why wouldn't it be good for spin?

I don't disagree. Was curious if most users were more "traditional" flatter players of "modern" spin players.
Would it be fair to say the spinner game is attributed more to string technology than the racket technology?

Who was aware that this Pt57a paintjob existed ;) even the cap grommets are painted here ;)
