The Debate Over Socks

didn't know there was a debate- thought it was personal preference.

You should make it a poll with high, ankle/quarters and no shows.

i wear quarters usually

definetely quarters or long, because if you wear no show, the shoe starts rubbing your heel.

High, but not too high LOL

No wonder you see most pros where them like that. I think that's how they feel the most comfortable and look the best.

No shows or low socks just look too feminine IMHO. I mean, women like them because it makes their legs look longer and they prevent tan lines. Besides, low socks make me feel like my socks have fallen down so I'm always trying to pull them up. Thus, I prefer crew socks.

You got that right!! :D But I think now the politically correct term is "metrosexuals". ;)

Crews - but I fold down the tops so that they end up looking like low socks; I do it that way for extra leg persperation absorption.

Low socks, but that's because I'm female. I'm sure that, if I were male, I wouldn't mind the tan lines that crew socks or quarters make.

As for no-shows, my ankles tend to blister when I wear them because they don't act as a barrier between my shoe and my skin. Ouch.

I mix my socks up.

I wear whatever is within arms reach or top of the cloths pile when i wake up.

I'm not picky.

You guys should try double socking. It gives your shoes a much snugger fit. I wear normal socks for my inner pair. Then quarter socks for the outer.

Big Boy Dan! I do the same thing, i.e. crews rolled one down. Not only does it absorb perspiration better but the additional elasticity keeps the socks up.

'Course... it all depends on WHICH socks you wear. Color me ThorLo...

I roll my crews down to and it does help with prespiration absorbtion.

Crew socks are far more comfortable, and low socks seem to be another thing associated with metrosexuality. If one was to wear ankle braces, I would imagine you would have to wear crew socks.

No complaints about women wearing no shows or low socks, especially seeing Anna K. wear them :)

i use thorlos they are ankle socks but go like an inch above my shoe igot ankle socks cuz my thorlos are the thickest they come for protection from the hard courts so it helps keep my feet cooler

I like the Thorlos too. They provide a ton of cushion and protection. Aeropro joe, do they really keep your feet cooler? I like my Thorlos a lot, but they have always made my feet hotter than most other socks. It's a tradeoff, but I appreciate the protection they provide, so I don't mind the fact that they don't make my feet any cooler.

Socks that come to just under the calf for myself...is that a 3/4? I've got skinny ankles and wearing the socks to just under the ridge of calf muscle evens me out a bit.
outside of length, my fave socks are Thor-Los. Great cushioning...definitely worth the price.

I wear no show just because I already wear no shows for everything else, no sense in buying seperate socks for tennis, plus I think they look fine. I will occasionally wear some crews because I have a few pairs of those left.

Lol I wear crew socks and i'm a girl! i dont really mind because i dont get tan lines and people are always saying my legs are long anyway

but when i wear a skirt i wear the ankle socks, though i hate them coz they always fall down and when i play on clay, clay always gets in them!

crew socks are better

I think most of the pros wear longish socks to cover the ankle strapping.
Do most pros really have ankle strapping under there? I mean pros who wear ankle supports like Roddick and Hewitt put them over the sock.

As discussed, short socks just don't feel as comfortable, and I feel feminine.

Ankle supports are worn over socks, but ankle strappings/wrappings for light support are placed under the sock directly on the skin.
