Right before your time lol, banned in Feb 2012. TTW was so epic back then
I used to read posts a long time before I joined, but don't remember her. I do recall Joe Pike and his level of crazy. Although he's back now in a different guise.

It’s interesting that in the cases of many posters nominated as the best fan of a given player, I haven’t had a clue that they were fans of that player.
Good point.
I think this speaks to the better fans being fans of tennis, itself, and appreciating all the players. One could have rooting interests, even strong, passionate ones, but still be objective.

Yes, but objectiveness shouldn’t be so exaggerated that you can be mistaken of which player you are his fan.
I’ve already seen some misappropriations like that.

Oh well thank you, it’s been a very crazy year but the nomination makes all the vaccine stuff worth it <3
You must be very exhausted for the impressive workload you experienced this year.
I just joined your army a couple of weeks ago, after I had enough of reading so much nonsense.
I know that we will not change anybody's minds at this point, but we are having some kind of fun anyway.

Right? I mean when people here nominate others for best rivalry I just think have you not seen the work I’ve done :-D Anyway it has been fun, the anti vaxxers keep coming and others just don’t seem to care so the more the merrier!

Joe Pike got along famously with Dedans. Is he back?
Chico was my guilty pleasure.
He was my best friend :)
Ain't no one gonna miss him more than me!

Like I said last time yours truly should sweep every non-joke category by any objective measure, but since my genius is superseded only by my humility I did my best to spread the holiday cheers around. I also noticed that y'all like to stick to the boring same old categories, so I decided not to get too creative with the names unlike last year.

Now without further ado.... the definitive TTW Poster Awards of 2021.

Best Thread: I told y'all it ain't wise to make any best-of-the-year picks before the actual year-end, and here's the latest proof courtesy of @arvind13:

William McGonagall, eat your heart out! What can one say in the face of such sublime amalgamation of love and lust? Deliciano himself couldn't hope to compete with that!

Most Charismatic Poster: Not even sure what that means, so I'll return an earlier favor by nominating @Azure who's as sweet as one can be without crossing the line into enabling sh!tty behavior
Most Helpful Poster: Seriously, name anyone who dishes out half as much infallible wisdom, knowledge and analysis as moi

Still could do without the tribes, but since you insist:

Best Federer Fan: @zagor though he's not exactly part of the TMF Fan Club
Best Nadal Fan: this shall always belong to @vive le beau jeu ! until he breaks out of the closet
Best Djokovic Fans: @Biotic & @King No1e for recognizing my genius, with an honorary mention to @Martin J who doesn't post as much
Best Murray Fan: There are any left?
Best Non-Big Four Fan (name player also): @ForehandCross (the avatar is self-explanatory - yeah I'm throwing you a bone)

Best Tennis Analyst: @encyclopedia has yet to make his return and @urban rarely posts in this corner, so I win again by default
Most Dedicated Poster/Earth's Mightiest Poster aka the biggest loser: See my diplomatic (non)answer from last year
Best Newcomers: @Kralingen and @NAS for not only appreciating my genius dissertations but also for engaging in good-faith discussions amid the nonstop trolling and fanboying

"Best" Rivalry: Reality vs. the crackpots who have somehow deluded themselves into wishing that a once-in-a-century pandemic that has killed nearly 5.4 million people worldwide (almost certainly a gross underestimate, contrary to their psychotic talking point about comorbidities) is nothing but a totalitarian power grab by the globalist elites who are looking to further their hegemony over us hapless sheeple. The CCP apparatchiks might have made a last-minute push, but they've got a loooooooooooooong way to go before they can challenge these truly mental cases whose detachment from all logic, reason and (not-so-)common sense will be studied for years to come.

So in that vein, and in case this nom gets tossed out for lack of a particular face, I'll nominate @Aussie Darcy vs. the usual suspects for fighting the good if hopeless fight.

Most Objective: @Gary Duane until @krosero comes back (but then Kev is something of a robot, so still Gary)
Funniest: There was nothing to equal the "bald breed" howler from last year, so @Sudacafan gets the nod as the only one who makes me chuckle time after time
Most Sincere: Gary teased moi the other day about (not) mincing words, but since brutally honest/blunt ain't quite the same I'll again go with @Azure
Toughest Debater: Moi, again. The only reason I don't win this by a landslide is cuz the increasingly strict moderation prevents me from going full nuclear on said crackpots, frauds and poseurs.
Best Derailer of a Thread: all the candidates happen to be gits I don't care to acknowledge, so none
Best GIF: Not exactly a TTW nom but I'm with @NoleFam on the Med celebration

Most Creative (Troll) Thread Title:

Best Catchphrase: Guess I'll hand it over to Triumph again, if only because this deserves to be seen over and over:

Posters Most Wanted Back: still @pc1 and @slice serve ace

Best Artistic Talent: Can any of you jokers bloviate on cinema, music (of all kinds), literature, (visual) art(s), anime and even video games with such authority? Yeah, didn't think so.
Best Individual Posts: more like 3 of 'em (will be 4 by tonight or tomorrow), starting with this one:

Probably my most ambitious dissertation/project since last year's "Greatest Living Filmmakers" thread. If we must stick to tennis, though, it's a tie between these two for my ongoing assault on the narrow definition of "peak" (the latter's focus on Novak nothwithstanding):

And this for my stab at "analytics" that goes beyond what passes for analysis among the dimmer fanatics and hizztorians:

The Rafa Nadal Most Humble Poster: see above (read: moi)
Best Sh!tposter: I might give this a try next year if someone explains to moi the difference between trolling and sh!tposting
Best Avatar: I don't like serial avatar hopping so I'll go with a tie between @MeatTornado and @Searchlight whose Eugene O'Neill mug is an instant classic
TTW Lifetime Achievement Award: I gave @Moose Malloy a shout-out last time so this year's honoree is... the one and only @MichaelNadal whose culinary cravings are nothing if not legendary!

That should be it for 2021. Congrats to all the true winners and Merry Merry Xmas, biatches!!!

Since the deadline is Christmas Eve, I'll give my answers now.
I don't participate in the poster awards. I don't know the posters well enough, I would't even be able to say who are newcomers or who loves who, etc... and frankly I couldn't care less.

Player of the year
ATP : Djokovic
WTA: Krejcikova (also for her results in doubles and her deep progression)

Match of the year:
ATP: Djokovic-Nadal French Open
WTA: Krejcikova-Swiatek Rome (there were so many, but this one really fascinated me)

Tournament of the year
ATP: US Open
WTA: Australian Open

Moment of the year:
ATP: Zverev's comeback from 1-6 1-3 to 1-6 6-3 6-1 in Tokyo SF against someone who looked unbeatable
WTA: Serena's fall in her Wimbledon 1st round against Sasnovich... could be a career ending moment at this stage of her career

Comment of the year:
ATP: ?? I don't know. Tomic saying he is a better player than Kyrgios and Kyrgios' immediate answer. Too Funny.
WTA: Osaka announcing she is disqualifying herself from her RG 2nd round because she won't attend press conferences

Breakout performance of the year:
ATP: Alcaraz beating world number #3 and reaching QF at USO
WTA: Raducanu's 20/20 at USO

Biggest upset/shock:
ATP: Rublev beats Medvedev in Cincinnati. I was never more shocked by any other result this year
WTA: Rogers beats Barty at the USO

Best rivalry on tour:
ATP: Djokovic-Zverev (with a HUGE margin)
WTA: Sakkari-Andreescu (2 of the best WTA matches of the year in Miami and USO)

Biggest disappointment:
ATP: Shapovalov results after his Wimbledon SF... I really had HUGE expectations for him after this tournament
WTA: Kenin... became one of my favorite players in 2020 and dropped off the face of the Earth this year

Since @Doctor/Lawyer Red Devil himself has nominated up to FIVE posters for select categories - though I'm not sure how one can have that many ties unless each of us is allowed ranked voting - I'll add to/modify a couple of my previous picks. I understand the poll is now officially closed, but it's still just after 11 pm in Seattle/Vancouver, 10 in Anchorage, and 9 in Honolulu and the OP never specified a particular time zone, which should in all fairness permit changes/new votes for another 1-3 hrs.

Besides Santa is still delivering his gifts. You dare go against St. Nick?

K, here goes:

Best Federer Fan: @zagor though he's not exactly part of the TMF Fan Club
Best Nadal Fan: this shall always belong to @vive le beau jeu ! until he breaks out of the closet
Best Djokovic Fans: @Biotic & @King No1e for recognizing my genius, with an honorary mention to @Martin J who doesn't post as much

As the forum's resident closet fan @vive le beau jeu ! ain't exactly forthright about his Bull fandom, so I'll add @aldeayeah for being another one to appreciate my infallible dissertations and @Bender for cracking jokes at VB's expense.

And as @Martin J has clarified he's (still) with geriatric Heidi. While I'm at it let moi also nominate @TheFifthSet for his own membership in the NonP Appreciation Society and @abmk for continuing to define what a fan can be without resorting to outright trolling.

One more thing:

Best Individual Posts: more like 3 of 'em (will be 4 by tonight or tomorrow), starting with this one:

Probably my most ambitious dissertation/project since last year's "Greatest Living Filmmakers" thread. If we must stick to tennis, though, it's a tie between these two for my ongoing assault on the narrow definition of "peak" (the latter's focus on Novak nothwithstanding):

My picks still stand, though for my non-tennis nom I should've gone with or at least added this essay on the increasing outdatedness of Nielsen ratings, GDP and other established metrics:

Meant to expand on the theme shortly after the Oscars only to scrap it, but the delayed Tokyo Olympics came to the rescue. It ain't my most polished writing (I was absolutely binge-watching the Os and barely had time for anything else) which may be why it slipped my mind, but in terms of scope and relevance it's probably the best thing I wrote all year.

Now one reply:

my thread the best thread of the year 2021 got deleted why? I didn’t violate rules. No spam. No inappropriate language :p

The mods tend to nuke anything remotely political these days, that's why. Wish they'd simply removed the offending posts instead cuz your ode absolutely deserved to be preserved for all posterity. :happydevil: But most of it can still be seen in the boxed link, so don't feel too bad.

Anyhoo Merry Christmas 2 U again, and to everyone else including the crackpots who I sincerely hope will gain some measure of sanity in the coming year!

Like I said last time yours truly should sweep every non-joke category by any objective measure, but since my genius is superseded only by my humility I did my best to spread the holiday cheers around. One or both of these two for instance.

Thank you, glad to know my hard work hasn’t been missed ;) curious seeing people voting for Bart in the rivalry category and for toughest debater. I didn’t go up against 30 anti vaxxers and 20 people who think Peng Shuai is safe just to lose to the guy who supports the CCP! Thanks again!

K kids, time for a fun Xmas factoid. I posted this almost 4 hrs ago:

Since @Doctor/Lawyer Red Devil himself has nominated up to FIVE posters for select categories - though I'm not sure how one can have that many ties unless each of us is allowed ranked voting - I'll add to/modify a couple of my previous picks. I understand the poll is now officially closed, but it's still just after 11 pm in Seattle/Vancouver, 10 in Anchorage, and 9 in Honolulu and the OP never specified a particular time zone, which should in all fairness permit changes/new votes for another 1-3 hrs.

I stopped at Honolulu cuz it was the one major city with the latest time per this list:

And you can see that Santa has stopped delivering as well. So it must be now officially Christmas everywhere, right?

Not so fast, cuz American Samoa, Midway, Niue/Alofi (New Zealand) and several other inhabited islands make up the UTC−11:00 time zone:

Oh and there's an even later time zone consisting of the uninhabited Baker and Howland Islands:

We can disregard the latter for our deadline purposes, but @Doctor/Lawyer Red Devil, especially on this day you shouldn't neglect our brethren in Polynesia! So I suggest you add 6 hrs to EST (New York, DC) and (I think) another 6 to your own time going forward!

One more thing:

I think you are being unfair to yourself. Could have easily nominated yourself in a bunch of other categories.
One or both of these two for instance.

Good to see there are more than 5-6 people who actually read the whole thing, LOL. Welcome to TTW and Merry Christmas!

What a surprise that this "Devils Show" thread keeps on rolling.

Let me cast my vote for the forums referees and their covert operations that keep the boards in one direction.

I hope my endorsement's alright with all; my donations are on the way.
