Noticed difference between stock and what pros using types of this polo. The difference is on the collar - checkered print is on ddifferent sides.
Is it a common practice that stock and pro room models of apparel are different?

It depends. It can be just sample shirts which provided to pros. Sometimes pros have specific different item number (for example socks or wristbands has “P” for production numbers.)
I have Nishikori custom shoes and there is pro initial for the product number.

Yes. I noticed this with Yonex apparel. They use a different material for pros and consumers. Mine also has a pattern in the fabric that pros don't. You will see when you zoom up on this consumer one

Now look at this one. https://www.usopen.org/images/pics/large/c_USTA1026712_20180827_D1_DC109966.jpg

I bought a really nice shirt from Diadora Japan and it uses what looks like the same material as the Yonex pros ones and it was a lot better than my Yonex, a lot more breathable and comfortable. I was quite disappointed with Yonex and considering how much I paid (which is more than I've paid for other brands). I'm not buying Yonex apparel again

Yep. It is disappointing when the companies treat their customers like idiots and such practices should be discouraged by taking the business elsewhere where the companies offer more honest products. That is why I buy almost exclusively Lacoste and Adidas now (for tennis apparel).

Same thing happens with Asics apparel, the hats and apparel/shirts you see players wearing on the pro tour, totally different in person. Was extremely disappointed when I got my apparel

Pro endorsed clothing usual is made more durable and comfortable since many are custom fitted to the player’s body so they look their best! Serena excluded!
