The discombobulation of Djokovic.

His form since winning the ATP finals late last year has been sub par, no motivation, he looks like he's out there on farewell rather than contenting for titles. If you see here, you can tell he's lost a step and when he serves, he's slower to get into a rallying position.

All this reminds me of Djokovic after the French Open in 2016, just looks like he's going through the motions.

Nope. After 6-0 second set he’s good.

He’s got his practice in for RG.

He’s literally got a first round match sometime on Sunday.

Do we really think he’s going to play a tournament final tomorrow?

He tanked.

He won the 2nd set 6-0.

He’d be in the finals tomorrow if he didn’t have the French on Sunday.

Well, considering who he lost to, maybe, although my scepticism is fairly high when the word "tank" gets thrown around here as if these top guys just let themselves be breadsticked in active competition.

He didn't have a slam looming in his previous losses and he still couldn't win them.

Still, considering the RG draw, I'd be absolutely floored if he lost before the second week regardless of whether he tanked today or not.

He seems sonewhat unfit. In the first set, he had problems with the heat, and looked like on the verge of collapsing. And was always complaining with his corner guys. Then he regrouped but fell apart again in the third. Now in the evening, its still heavily raining, and i don't know, what they do with Ruud. I cannot believe, that he will play two matches tomorrow, one day before RG.

I didn't feel any different from 30 to 36, but after 37 there was a large cliff. I started getting hangovers the day after a match bc whatever I was doing hydration wise was no longer enough. Something changed right around 37 and recovery got harder. I imagine the same thing is happening to him.

Interesting as i notices that....at 24!!!!!!

I didn't play a lot in my 20s sadly, so I don't have the grounds for comparison. Got serious again around 28/29. I definitely felt old when I started back up but more in the sense of explosion/power on my shots, but I have that back now.
I am a more complete player now than younger, and still have great stamina, but my movement has gone and ive lost power in my shots and im actively looking for the right racket to help me as i hit with an extreme western grip

How old are you and when did the movement go?

I gave up on the extreme Western a while ago unless I'm about to murder a second serve

Djoker lost/tanked so it is a moot point,

but what kind of a mickey mouse tournament schedules the final on a Saturday, knowing that Djoker has a match in Paris on Sunday? Tournament would then be in an embarrassing position
of having the #1 seed skip the Final.

Ah ok. Wow. When was the hip done?
2 years ago. I had a different procedure to Murray, and i am fine in that hip, can play tennis, run, play football and rugby and other sports, in fact only part of the body that doesnt hurt!!. I was specifically told by three different consultants not to have what Murray had done.
Apparently 50% of men are born with extra bone growth in the hip, which isnt a problem normally except for those who do alot of physical activity which eventually wears away the cartilage. If you catch the issue early enough then you can have keyhole surgery to sew the labrum back but i was too late.

Djokovic is not playing on Sunday.

No one - at least that I know of - knew that when he lost.

And - when you’ve had the worst season you’ve had in almost 20 years and you’re 37 - it still makes little sense to play a tournament final just a couple of days before a GS match.

That 6-0 2nd set gave him all the info he needed on the match.

I can’t say for sure he tanked the 3rd. But if he did it was the smart move.

He's below sinner, alcaraz, zverev, tsitsipas for RG at this point. Unexpected first half after an amazing 2023.

For me it was different. Got my fittest self from 37 onwards.

Though a large part of it this improvement is owed to diet and daily badminton. :)

I understand. I'm fitter now too. My coach says I move about midpack relative to the guys he played in D1. But 37 was a wakeup call, for the postmatch prep. Had to get a lot more serious about recovery hydration and nutrition. Couldn't just coast any longer.
