Djokovic 38 masters
Nadal 36 masters

Djokovic has only managed to win four masters overall in the last three seasons (Cincinnati 2020, Rome 2020, Paris 2021, Rome 2022), Nadal has only managed to win one masters in the last three seasons (Rome 2021). The two most prolific winners of masters titles have had a massively dry patch in masters title relative to how they were eating up masters in previous years.

Does this race still have any life left in it, or is this one basically over now? Nadal needing two to catch Djokovic, but really three to win the race as he is missing some of them, without Djokovic winning any more from now on.

If it remains the same after this clay season I don't see Nadal being able to catch up.

Rafa almost won Indian Wells with a fractured rib last year… he hasn’t been healthy for a Masters in basically 2 years (Rome 2021). I’m not gonna count him out just yet, considering he outplayed the boy wonder, even with a cracked rib, on a HC last year.

That being said there’s zero benefit to going hard in Masters for either guy anymore. I wouldnt be surprised if they never win another, they may not care about it at all.

Not over, but on the other hand masters are now pretty much 500s to Djokovic/Nadal. They have little meaning other than a tune up to the slams

You're missing Djokovic Cincinati 2020

So its 4 1 . With IW, MI, MC, MA; RC , Shanghai cancelled 2020
Plus 2022 Novak couldn't participate 4.
2023 at least 2
Nadal could play all those in 2022/23

Djokovic was also quite close to win Paris masters last year.

He was, and I still think he’s the best HC player in the world, but his demeanor was totally different than at a Slam. He was smiling and having fun during that last game with 50 deuces. He looked genuinely happy for Rune when he won, same look against Alcaraz in Madrid. I just don’t think Masters matter to them as much anymore. They can still win on pure level but Djokovic was a completely different person at the YEC and AO, as was Rafa at RG and the AO last year.

Thanks, yes. I have corrected the OP.
What a year 2020 could be for Novak . He was in absolute great form . ATP Cup level of play(hell even in doubles) was out of this World.
Wimbledon cancelled , USO :alien:, RG moved to October... autumn indoors canceled , Shanghai too

Nadal needs to win a clay Masters this year to keep it close and even then it might still be over. I vote it's over at this point. I have doubts Nadal will win another one off clay.

Would it even matter if Rafa wins more Masters than Djokovic, unless they include Miami and Paris? Djoker has won all the Masters 1000's, Rafa is still missing the two just mentioned. Winning them all is a significant achievement, nobody else has done it.

Nadal is capable of getting to 39 before RG this year, Masters race is far from over.

Similar GS scenario would be:
Player 1 has 19 titles, but never won USO.
Player 2 has 18 titles and 2xCGS.

Never count Nadal out, even though Djokovic is heavily favored to win this race.

One feather in Nadal's cap is that he's won 5 titles in a best of 5 set up to Djokovic's 1. Nadal skipped the next tourney after winning a best of 5 title 3 times(60% of the time). That rarely happened after the title match went to a best of 3 setup. But that being said, Djokovic leads Nadal by 6 titles in a best of 3 setup.

I’m not counting out Nadal always healthy &fit (until he losers l)for clay .HC field clearly stronger than that on clay thus it's harder to win .Masters title is masters title
What a feather ,for player who started to compete 2years earlier, and bo5 F later abolished How far fans of Nadal are ready to go?

I'm fairly neutral. As a case in point, I've coined Djokovic the overall king of this era anyway. Ever since Djokovic bagged slam title #19, I called him the best. He had many other far more important stats in his favor, IMHO. The Masters portion is not why I pick him as #1. I think they are very close there. It's his weeks at #1, his year-end #1's, and his incredibly long domination of the sport as to why he's the best; at least when considering this century. The guy has been the best by far for an incredible 12 year period now.

But you can’t count bo5 F in Nadal favor since Djokovic didn’t have as much opportunities. As said Masters title is Masters title

Not over, but effectively so.

Djokovic has averaged about 1/3 of the Masters he's played the last 5 years (8/26 since 2018 start and 4/9 since 2020 start). Assuming he keeps up just that rate (mostly coming from Rome, Cincinnati, and Paris), as long as he plays 3 Masters a year he'll get one.

In the last 5 years, Nadal's averaged 6/20, and only 1/10 in the last 3 years. He's a lot more vulnerable. Certainly if he has a clay season like he did in 2018, it isn't over, but it's more likely Djokovic keeps increasing the gap.

So I'm not calling it, just saying Djokovic is firmly in the lead and Nadal really needs to put in the work if he wants to catch up.

Djokovic has been held back in masters 1000’s somewhat due to Covid closing events and the later due to his vaccination status. Neither of which relates to his ability to win those events

European rock, does it counts?
You could post the source instead

You can go on youtube and watch like gazillion of people discussing it! LMAO I don't have one particular source, it appeared in the news feeds several times and i didn't bother paying attention and now it's all over the place! Every sport expert and tennis expert in particular are talknig about it! LOL They literally won't shut up about how Djokovic will be able to play US series in August this year! The only question mark was Sunshine Double (and still is...), but vaccine mandates will be lifted, it's official!...Don't believe me? Google is your friend! Though i think it may be May not April, like reported before...

Do not count chickens before they hatch, means nothing to you. I'll stick to it until there is definite decision and ofc won't waste my time searching unreliable sources , I don't have issue with travel .

What are you talking about man? What chickens? LOL it is set in stone, they just wait for the best window to announce it! It has been already decided, the only that hasn't been done - it hasn't been announced to public! Everything regarding vaccine travel mandated has already been voted! Nothing to do with chickens at all! LOL
