The "Djokovic was tired" excuse

Yes, I hate Murray for beating Djokovic in Rome final and stalling Djokovic's momentum ahead of French Open but I give full credit to Andy Murray. He played a great match and deserved to win!

Ultimately results matter, excuses or reasons don't.
Fact: Novak didn't win FO' 2015 or W'2013 or Rome'2016 (deal with it)
Fact: Novak won AO' 2012, USO' 2011 or AO' 2013 QF . Everyone of this tournaments had a tough matches. But he won the next one

Murray was the better player on the day. He deserved the win, no excuses from me. I still very happy with novaks start to 2016 and his clay preparation. What it tells us, is Novak the clear no1 overall still but on clay that isn't the case and it's very close between defo 3 guys. Nole could be marginal fav at French but tbh it's a 3 way tie with him, Murray and Nadal with Kei and Stan as outsiders. Stan goes into GOAT mode then he clearly one of favourite if not fav but that is unlikely that he finds that level again.

The draw will be crucial.

I am a Djokovic fan but I find it hilarious that the tired excuse has been used for him more times since I joined this forum, than any other player. This is the fittest guy since Nadal's peak years (or even then considering Nadal's proneness to injuries), and one of the fittest guys ever. Yet he is the one who supposably cant handle a 4 or 5 setter the match before a final, or playing a grand 1 set on an alternate day!?!? Sorry it is ridiculous logic. It is also demeaning to Djokovic's incredible fitness people try to imply such things, the days he lost he was beaten by a better player on the day. The 2012 Australian Open shows just how much tiredness will stop Djokovic when he is playing good enough tennis to win. I have seen nobody even try to say Ferrero lost (or atleast lost a fighting chance) to win the 2003 U.S Open final with Roddick when he played something like 5 matches in 4 days, many of those 4 or 5 setters. That just shows the biases that come into play depending who is involved in the discussion.

Now a lot of this is 2 times this excuse can be parlayed out are slams Murray won, and it seems much of this board has a bizarre fixation with demeaning Murray's 2 slam wins as much as possible. Stan atleast is more popular so there is less desire for people to trot out that excuse, although as this thread and others demonstrate it comes up even some there and is equally ridiculous.

Just because he pulled AO2012 doesn't mean he can pull it every time. USopen 2012 semis and finals back to back. RG2015 semis and finals back to back. Try playing just club level tennis before you even talk about how it feels physically

Wimbledon 2013- no excuses. He had the same rest as other player with 1 day to recover between semis and finals.
Rome 2015 - - no excuses. He obviously did not have anything left in the tank and he has himself to blame.3 setters against nobodies and very tight matches against Nadal and Nishi. Added to that Murray had a cake draw and played his semis much much earlier.

Djokovic interview:

"
The five hours and a half on court on Friday and Saturday against Rafael Nadal and Kei Nishikori influenced today Novak Djokovic, who was beaten by Andy Murray 6/3 6/3.

"I didn"t really think about it - Djokovic said - even though it"s present. I had a long couple of weeks, especially last couple of days. I knew it was going to be very hard for me, an uphill ride against Andy today, who was playing throughout the week on a very high level. And to compete with him in long exchanges and rallies that we do have in our encounters, they required a lot more energy and better performance from my side which didn"t happen. I am not taking anything away from Andy"s win. On the contrary, I think he deserved to wintoday and to win the tournament, because he has been the best player. He haa been the player who showed the best form throughout the entire tournament.""
