As of today; DY is ranked 157 in the world! A couple of more wins and he easily be under 100!
DY won some matches and is on court now vs Gabasvilli.
I really want a Young Harry final.
DY gets a win in straights and moves to the semis vs Arguello.
Harry v Odesnik up in a bit.
watching young-gaba now....great tennis ...maybe the lower camera angle helps but real entertaining power tennis on har-tru
Lost his cool (does he even have any), lost his match today. Heard he was mouthing off again and his coach chastised him for it. Missed that personally, so it's hearsay.
He has a coach?
Yup, Donald did not have the mental edge Saturday. Tossing racket, launching balls, and throwing temper tantrums. Check the link for a taste of it.
Made a semi, rose a few spots in the ranking. Back at it in Tallahassee this week.
The bad thing about DY is that ALL of this carries off the court as well. Take my advise... don't bother wishing him luck in the next round or making a nice comment to him while he's out in public. Jack hole to the max...
154! And counting!
Got a 1st round win over M Venus in Tallahassee and plays Zverev next.
Not sure if anyone noticed but Christian Harrison is shooting up the rankings pretty fast. Took out Steve Johnson today 6&1.
Watched the stream today. Good win for Harrison but, Johnson's backhnad is horrible!! Cant see him being a top 100 player unless he shores that up.
DY with another win, moves to the quarters vs R Harrison/Bogdanovic.
C Harrison up later vs F Dancevic. That would be a legit win for Harrison.
Extremely unlikely but how interesting would a Harrison Harrison final be?
Does anyone know why Donald isn't playing RG Qualifying
Cause, like a lot of Americans, he doesnt like clay that much??
Looks like he'll have to play Wimby qualies as well. He cant get high enough before the cutoff b/c Tallahassee is his last tourney before the deadline, the 13th.
Harry stops a DY matchup with the mighty Alex Bogdanovic who inspired this thread many pages ago!
DY beats some decent players in these Challangers, but I guess that's the problem. You can be a very good player and still be only Challenger-level.
Anyway, DY vs. Harrison today. Just based on their game, I'd say either player can win. But, each could fail mentally, though in different ways. DY can get petulant and distracted if things aren't going his way. Harrison will always fight to the end, but can suffer from self-doubt. But, Harrison is coming off a challenger win, so his mental hitch is less likely to appear, IMO.
Is the French Open wildcard based just on who wins Tallahassee, or is based collectively on a series of tournaments?
Not sure but my guess would be the clay challenger series.
"THE" Donald in action right now http://188.8.131.52/w00t/20130429/vv517e66f16d579374347129-571627.html
so far, Donald playing like a boss !!
post the usta stream not that crap stuff
was working when i posted it
It's given to the player who's earned the most pts from 2 of the 3 Spring USTA Clay Challengers, and not directly into the French Open MD.
When Odesnik lost early this wk Kuznetsov was guaranteed the WC because he got 100 pts for winning Sarasota, plus he equaled Odesnik last wk, and he's gone further than Odesnik this wk.
Did anybody notice the post macth celebration and handshake in the DY-Harrison match today??
After DY missed the forehand long on MP, Harrison kinda dropped down to one knee, did a fist pump, and let out a big 'Woooooo'.
Then, when they were at the net, Harrison was going for the 'bro' handshake, but DY kept his hand in the normal handshake position, so Harrison had to adjust.
I thought they were cool but it seems there's a bit of tension now.
both of those guys are head cases
true, donald has more talent in my opinion
In theory, yes, he seems to have a little more ground stroke variety and at one time at least, he looked like he had nice touch and soft hands.
But, as someone brought in the Aranxta Sanchez thread when comparing her to Sabatini, we always just think of a player's strokes (even just the aesthetics of their strokes) and their physical skill as "talent." We just assume that mental fortitude and work ethic and other mental skills, such as recognizing opponents strength and weaknesses, ability to make adjustments, mapping out strategies, can be acquired at any time by anybody if they just "focus", so we don't include those things as "talent". But, they are. And, that should be recognized.
I think most times when TWers use "talent" they simply mean "physical talent" - pure physical skills, shot making.
ryan harrison is the future of american tennis.
finally someone to look forward to.
lol joking I'm guessing?
sorry, mean christian harrison... the younger brother.
Ryan Harrison, United States, def. Donald Young, United States, 7-6 (5), 6-4

Rank:154 Week Chg:12 Win/Loss:1-2 title: 0 Prize Money:$45,496
DY won a Challenger in Mexico just a few weeks ago!
Guess they do not up Challenger tournament data like they do the Masters and Grand Slam matches.
not surprised actually, i watched half of the match and what i saw is they never trusted each other about the lines call and always asked (both) the umpire to check the mark, didn't trust the other guy showing the mark
Does anyone know if don is playing anywhere before Wimbledon
Based on past experiences; DY will probably try to build up his ranking in the U.S. and other hard court menus leading up to the U.S. Open. Going to Wimbledon is quite expensive. DY would at least right now would have to go through the qualifiers rounds to see if he can get a spot in the main draw. He has done poorly the last two years.
I think if he can get his ranking below 100; before Winbledon; he may go to Wimbledon since winning 1st round equals around two Challenger final wins in points. Plus, you get to travel to London and stay at a nice hotel until you loose!
Not to mention the prize money for just getting into the 1st round will be his biggest payday all year and if he wins a match, it will be a big paycheck for him.
He's on the ALT list for the 4 grass court warmups in Europe. He's too far down to have a realistic chance to get in though.
I'm positive he'll play Wimby qualies. He's played qualies there twice before. He'll probably also play the two grass court Challengers back to back in Nottingham. He's played there before also. Those will give him grass court prep leading into Wimby qualies.
The entry deadline for Wimby is next Mon and he isnt playing anything so no chance for him to get his ranking up to get straight in.
Hopefully he'll do better this yr in qualies. I don't think he's ever won a match at Wimby lifetime, qualies or MD. He's 0-3 MD, lost to Levine, Bogomolov, and Youhzny last year, all winnable matches,
I wouldn't exactly call Youhzny a winnable match, but the others for sure.
Would be nice to see some good grass court results.
He was up a set, and a break, and had a sitter forehand on game point to further consolidate the break. Nets the forehand, Youzhny breaks back, and it's all downhill after that.
Youzhny was playing badly and even commented on how badly he was playing to the journalists covering the match, saying "Maybe I go home today"
Is Donald injured
Doubt it. Most likely it's just that his ranking isnt high enough to get him straight into any of the clay ct tourneys, and he's not interested in playing qualies for any of them, even the French. Also, like a lot of Americans, he doesn't want to spend 2 months straight in Europe.
He is signed up for the grass ct tourneys, but he might not even get into qualies for those, except for Wimby, but he's signed up for a grass ct Challenger the week before Wimby qualies.
He should have done what Bogomolov did and gone to the Far East for that Challenger swing over there. Bogomolov won the one in China and improved his ranking by about 40 places to get DA into Wimby and some more tourneys after that, and he's in the semis for Busan this week.
He should have done a lot of things. :-\
Just heard on another message board that he had sugary on his hand and wanted to see if anyone else had heard that rumor
Will he play wimbledon
He might have spilt some coke in his hand. As any scientist will tell you, that's one dangerous drink and it's loaded with Sugar. Coke can eat away your enamel - a really hard substance. Imagine what it can do with your hand!
He can always use the Gasquet excuse, if it comes down to that.
Playing two Nottingham challangers and then Wimbledon qualifyers I think he will do well as he has the game for grass
Man his career is so up and down, and dissapointing.
I admire how he still hasn't quit yet, because with him going back to challengers twice and being called ovverated your whole life. Id imagine it would be tough
game for grass? :?
His serve sucks, his volleys and net game suck and so does his slice..
Oh MAN. I can't believe The Donald is playing about 5 minutes away from my house and I'm stuck at work
Hopefully he makes it to Saturday...
DY gutted out a 7-6 7-5 win over Pospisil. Michael Berrer of Germany up next.
