I can't take anyone serious who wears their hat cocked to one side.
Not even Shingo Kunieda, world wheelchair #1?
Don's confidence is totally shot. Maybe it's all those years of losing on the ATP tour when he should have been in college or high school. He missed an easy overhead to lose serve in 3rd set, that was the end of the match.
Really?? He's back in the top 70 now, and that came from winning alot of matches.
When people keep claiming he should have gone to college it makes me think they don't know much about tennis, and DY's history in particular.
In, 2007, when he was 17-18, he ended the year inside the top 100. When you're top 100 at 18, you don't go to college. That should be common sense!!
And to remind you, he reached the 3rd rd of the US Open. I know people are gonna throw in the w/o from Gasquet.
He also won 1 Ch, and reached 4 Ch finals that year. If you're that competitive at the Challenger level at 18, you don't go to college.
Now, to your point about the missed overhead. He has a long, unorthodox windup on his overhead, and I didn't see the match, but he seems to prefer to take all the overheads out of the air, even when he could let them bounce and have an easier shot.
I'd say that's why he missed the overhead, not because of any silliness about lack of confidence from years of losing when he's now currently back in the top 70.
Dude's a thug!
(If you apply TT logic)
DY vs Ry Harrison up shortly and there is probably even a stream.
Who ya got?
Anybody have a good stream for this, mine is very choppy.
Anyway, DY just fed Harrison a bagel in about 18-20 mins, 1st set.
6-0 6-1.
Harrison only won 4 points on DY's huge serve.
Where are the "Donald Duck Sucks" posts?
Ryan Harrison has a really stupid hair cut
and DY looks silly with hat slightly askew
Exactly, or the 'He's lost confidence after the losses to Nishikori and Murray', or the 'He should've gone to college' posts. Those guys only show up when he loses.
Let's see if they say the same thing about Harrison now.
But Harrison has "fight". Harrison the Heir Apparent. Harrison has been hyped beyond measure and no one say "boo". But there is not double standard...right?
Who's up next for DY?
Most likely Juan Monaco assuming he beats Somdev Devvarman.
After winning a round in Miami, DY was ranked 71.
But, this Monday, he dropped 20(!) spots to 91. My only question is what did he do last year at this time that dropped off his total points? I thought last year at this time he was in the midst of his slump (which basically lasted until he started winning challengers late in the season).
Anyway, what the heck happened? I have no big opinion about who is better between DY and Harrison, but I would think that they're close enough that neither should be destroying the other one.
He won the Leon Mexico Challenger last year so those 90 points fell off.
Ok, that explains it.
***** happens. Not to excuse his performance, but maybe Harrison was tired from his 3 qualies matches, the final rd was 7-6 in the 3rd. But, he's a pro, been on tour for a while now, he should be fit enough to recover.
They played 2 rds of qualies on Sat, think Sun got rained out, played last rd on Mon. He should have been able to recover.
DY had a similar dismal outing against Kudla earlier this year in Memphis I think. Kudla had never even taken a set of DY, was 0-5, and he beat DY 0 & 1.
DY also lost to Sanam Singh in the Charlottesville Challenger late last yr, 0 & 3, lost the 1st 7-8 games of the match, pretty much got hit off the court by a Futures player ranked a cpl hundred spot lower than him.
Harrison is overrated in my opinion, just like young was for a while. He does not have any outstanding strokes, and he is only heard of simply because American tennis is at an all-time low. He is a mediocre player.
Harry looking to Tomic for inspiration
Hopefully Donald can take out Nadal's girlfriend Juanita next.
Good points. It really does "just happen". These guys are bunched pretty close in terms of talent level and if someone gets an early edge and the other guy isn't feeling it, things can spiral, resulting in a blowout -- even to people they've previously beat.
But when it happens to the Donald, it is because he sucks and would get bageled by a 4.5.
Donald playing a pretty good match against Monaco so far.
Takes the 2nd set
And the match, solid win against a solid clay court player!
That is a very good win
Nice win for the Duck. Top 50 here we come!
Playing Verdasco next. Tough draw for Donald.
Monaco is usually good on clay but this isn't clay it's 'American clay'.
well done, donald !
Something he is very familiar with as the '12 champion.
Donald Duck Sucks
The Donald keeps on trucking through draw in the Clay in Houston. He almost won against Isner in Miami so he has a lot of confidence going in Houston. If he makes it past to the quarters; he is back in the 70s again! Currently, DY is ranked 91! If he goes to the semis; he in the 50s! And if he wins; he be close to his all time ranking in the 30s!
Like clockwork. HATERS GONNA HATE.
Donald Duck sniffs #1.
Donald Vs Dreddy final. Bring it.
its more close to concrete than to clay
and btw- Verdasco will beat the _ _ _ _ out of him (6:3, 6:1)
Isn't the clay at River Oaks imported??
Verdasco might be able to destroy Donald playing at his peak level, which we've seen is very high (though it happened years ago). Generally, I'd say Verdasco is more talented and should win. But, this is Verdasco - he's often wildly inconsistent in his level of play and can blow matches. Moreover, Don's playing fairly well at the moment.
So, even if Verdasco wins, I don't see a blowout. And, I honestly think DY could win. BTW, it's 3-3 in the first set.
GOATing to the break
take my eye off it for a moment and he gets broken back, jeeze
Wow, this was certainly wrong. Pretty close first set. Care to adjust your prediction?
Massive collapse after being up a break in the 1st
Tough run. But I think Donald is still better that a 4.5 from TT.
Good tournament result, but not a great match result. Not that he lost, just the way he went away in the 2nd set. Would have been fine if would have won at least 3 or 4 games in set 2.
I dunno, I think I could take him.
