I think he would've had a better shot against Mannarino, who he beat last week, than Dr Ivo. He has to hope Karlovic has an off serving day, plus play well on his service games, and try to dictate as much as possible with his forehand.

Donald Young currently at #45 in live rankings already being climbed up 11 spots. He could make it to #41 winning title.

    Go Young!

    :)

Even surprises me Donald is finally maturing! same age as Kei and pushed Kei recently on hard courts
and change to new racquet looks like manufacturer played their cards with some serious luck! big risk!!

The biological fact that the frontal lobe reaches full maturity around the late 20s is more important
in todays tennis than it used to be as the modern game requires more patience, biding your time
to make the right shot for longer periods of time thanks to the bigger sweet spots, balls and slow courts.

Donald had the title of the man who was harder to lose to than to beat Nadal on clay

wait on! Nadal lost on clay to Foggy

well looks like Pure drive sales in Italy will be going up and so will Tecnifibre in the US?

This will be a tough final. Can he break Karlovic? If not, can he hold serve so he has a chance in the tiebreak. They've played once before with Ivo winning 6-4, 6-4.

He can break Karlovic. Donald has a solid return of serve. I think it's a matter of keeping his nerve and not falling apart.

Sounds like Donald had his chances. No shame in losing to Ivo.

I think he has the tools to win at least a few atp titles, and maybe go deep in a few grand slams.

Donald did not play a bad match but was mentally gone when he got broken in the second. Still a very good two weeks.

A very good couple of weeks for Donald. He is a much more physical player and has an ATP level of game plan these days.

Nine singles matches, plus a doubles final, in fourteen days should help to get stronger and maintain concentration longer for deeper runs in the big events and the majors.

Maybe now off to Acapulco for some more tennis and a well deserved little vacation.

Tough draw in Acapulco. Qualifier in first round, then likely Dimitrov, and if he were to pull the upset, then Ivo again. I think he should just focus on winning that first round and then just relax and see what he can do against Dimitrov, knowing it's no shame in losing.

how far can Donald go this year ?? Top 30, real possibility ? he always fizzles out during clay and grass season so we will have to see.......

The Donald draws qualifier Ryan Harrison, a familiar foe. They are 2-2 h2h, 1-0 for DY at Tour level, a 6-0 6-1 beatdown on clay last year in Houston.

Donald needs to get control of his emotions. Yelling obscenities and throwing a racquet is not good form. He was beat more by himself than by Ivo, IMHO.

He may be fatigued but if The Donald is serious then The Donald really needs to win this one comfortably.

The odds being so low means this could be a fixed match one way or another. Likely a 3 setter guaranteed. If it wasn't fixed Donald wins comfortably in 2 and would be a much bigger favorite against the awful Harrison.

I wouldn't say its fixed. DY had a long week last week. He probably got into Acapulco on Mon. From watching the scores it seems his game has fallen apart since the second set.

Lets see if he has the will to grind out a victory. Or if it's rest time for IW.

Up and down third set for both. DY got down a break 0-2, broke back. Went back down 1-3, broke back again.

At least he's not throwing in the towel.

Standard max fixing patterns. You will probably see something similar with the Tomic match because his odds are real low against Mannarino as well.

Ryan finished Dimitrov in three sets; the last one is a goose egg! 6-0 for Ryan. Looks like Ryan gain a lot of confidence when Young retired.

Almost as good as his prediction that whoever is serving big will win Acapulco because it's at "high altitude".

So is this like monumental mistake to put in Donald for #2 guy in Davis cup this weekend against the Brits. Isner could lose to Murray on day 1, most likely. and Donald could very well lost to Ward and put USA down 0-2...............

I know Donald is like...well..."The Donald" but I feel you're being hard on the guy who made a final recently with wins over Tomic and The Dolg. Ward is a big match player but it still is a big ask for him this weekend.

Well , he will play well especially playing at England. it won't surprise me one bit if he straight sets Donald. and Murray will likely win both of his match, so that leaves USA back in middle of nowhere trying to get back into world group......

His name was William Wallace. Donald derives from the Gaelic tongue and means "great ruler".
