DY retired in his qualie match at Bercy with a back injury.
After the Swiss, The Donald is 48th in the ATP rankings! The Donald best is 38th I think! Looking Good!
That is the 1000 Paris tournament? If so, The Donald was playing in the qualifying first round to get into the main draw - The BNP Paribas Master 6-2, 2-0 retire.
Still The Donald done well for the entire year so far!
Yes, to the tournament info. Meh, to the '15 results. He gained 9 spots in the rankings (#57 to 48) as of now but could lose a few spots depending on this week's results from others. DY has a lot of points to defend early...QFs in Auckland, 2R AO, SFs in Memphis and finalist in Delray.
The Donald is out 1st Round at the AO! Lost to a powerful ground stroker name Santiago Giraldo ranked 70th! The Donald is at 47 before his lost!
He was missing on his first serves and his opponent just teed off on the second. In the second set Giraldo was making lots of errors, but after that he firmed up and the Donald try but could not handle the power! The Donald's was the same too in 3rd and 4th sets!
The Donald look shape! Like his stripped red and white shirt! He wore white shorts and white baseball cap too!
The real question is, was his hat on straight or slightly askew as per his usual?
2R Auckland, 1R AO...I feel a slide back down coming on in early '16.
So very Donald-like.
The Donald is seated 3rd at Menphis Open and gets a first round bye! Let hope he can win it!
Donald Trump doesn't have a shot of being a good player on tour, sorry to tell you that mate.
That hair should scare any opponent into submission!
Didn't get to see it, but solid win in his first match at Memphis.
A year or so ago their roles would have been reversed...Granollers would have been the seed and DY would have had to play into the 2R. It's good he took advantage of his #3 seed and gets QFist points or more. Berankis will be tough. No h2h.
I hadn't noticed how much Granrollers ranking had fallen. I always think of him as a top 30-40 player. I don't know much about Berankis.
Berankis was a boys USO champion, made QFs or better at the other three junior slams, won the Orange Bowl. He was derailed by injuries in his early ATP career. Seems healthy now...big serve for a short guy; solid groundies.
They have played before, at least once. Berankis beat DY in San Jose a few years ago, after DY served for the match I think. Think it was 7-5 in the 3rd, or maybe 7-5 2nd set for Berankis, then an easy 3rd.
Berankis is 1-0 vs Young. He beat him at 2011 San Jose in R16.
The score was 6-4,5-7,7-5 for Berankis.
That's good to know...my search on matchstat didn't yield a listing.
if you want to know a H2H just check the ATP website:
DY lost to Berankis 7-6, 6-1! Berankis is ranked 146! DY not looking to shape for 2016! Not sure how he did last year in Memphis? Anyone know by chance?
Berankis is #102. Fritz and Jordan Thompson are tied at #145.
DY didn't play Memphis last year, opting instead to play Buenos Aires, where he lost in SFs. He also has to defend finalist points next week in Delray.
Thanks for catching my mistake and correcting Berankis's ranking! DY lost some points: SF to QF! DY not playing as well as 2015. It will a stressed DY going into Delray with some more top players added this year to the tournament! DY needs to have some luck and get a good draw and hope other players knockout the players DY has difficulties with! Finalist DY 2016?
DY 1st round is against Mikhail Kukushkin, a true "hot and cold" tour player! DY better hope he is cold! Else DY is out! And he makes it past the Kaz, he could face Taylor Fitz second round!
Im pretty sure DY didnt skip any American hard court tourneys to go to South America to play on clay. Even more certain he didnt get to the semis of Buenos Aires last yr.
I think he got to the semis of Memphis last yr. Think he lost to Anderson. Gonna check now.
Edit. I was right, he lost to Anderson in 3 sets in the semis of Memphis last yr.
Cor tennis has his results listed as competing in BA, beating Mannarino then Kudla then Tomic before losing to KA. They must be rotten to the core!
Not sure why you arent using the ATP or ITF site. Get it straight from the horse's mouth.
Lots more detail offered on that site and it's usually very reliable. I've given up on the ATP site after their recent "upgrade", which is total garbage.
Don too much for Kukushkin today. Both looked fairly erratic 7-6,3-0.
Donald in the second round plays Tim Smyncek!
Down in three despite a strong breadstick start. Smyczek is now 3-0 at ATP level vs The Donald but DY leads 7-3 at Challenger level.
Big drop in points...he was defending 150 points as a finalist.
DY is past the first round and into the second where he will be playing Gigor Dimitrov in the Acapolco 500 point Tournament! The way I see it, DY has a chance to move into the third round!
DY is back in the 70s again! 71! That means qualifying to get into main draw!
He's in 2R Acapulco vs Dimitrov (overall 2-4 h2h but usually close matches on HC). He is straight in IW/Miami (won 3 rounds total in '15) so he can move up in any of these three events. Acapulco is already a plus (lost 1R in '15).
DK has the incentive to win! No tour player wants to play qualifying to get into the main draw of a tournament! If he gets past Dimitov, he be solid ground to avoid the qualifying since he will be in the low 60s! Great incentive if there ever was one for DY! Dimitrov did not look that good against Kudla in the 1st set! Never saw the 2nd however!
Has Young replaced his coaching team, as we have advised over the years? Otherwise he risks overtake by white man Fritz.
Not that I know of! It still his parents as the coaching goes!
Taylor is on a roll! Can he keep it up? And can he do well in the 1000 Masters and GS? Taylor is hot right now but can he sustain the momentum? It only been one or two tournaments where he is "hot"!
Well there you go -- ignore the TTW advice at own peril.
Fritz can rely on mother's home schooling...she played the WTA tour.
Fritz has been "hot" since winning the USO Boys title last fall...three Challenger titles and a final plus the Memphis final at ATP level have jumped him almost 800 spots in the rankings.
Bad news for DY! Lost his Dimitrov 6-4, 6-3! Set score could be reverse too, off of memory!
Donald going pay the price going forward until he start winning again! Qualifying here we come!
Could be the next Sampass! maybe for the U.S.?
He should remain in the top 100 which will get him direct accept into Indian Wells, Miami, Roland Garros, and Wimbledon. He may need to get some results and points in order to get direct into USO. Work to do, results to post.
It all depends on how many points he has to defend in tournaments going forward and how he does in these tournaments! Hope you are right!
I guess it would be quite the large understatement to say that the kid needs to post some positive results in a very big hurry. I would not call it a downward spiral just yet but he failed to defend some significant points yet again this season.
Miami is his last decent chance; he is horrid on clay and not much better on grass.
I know he lost in IW in the first round! Looks like he heading back to the qualifying rounds with this 1st round lost!
Playing the Irving Challenger...Tursunov is his 1R opponent.
The Russian has fallen a lot too! Going be brutal for Donald!
The Donald lost in the 1st Round 6-4, 6-1 of the Dallas Irving Challenger to Tursunov! 1st round is $1,300.00. I remember back 5 years ago, that was the quarters winnings! ATP has step the $$$$$ in the minor tournaments.
Irving is one of the top Challengers ($125K). In contrast, the just completed Drummondville Challenger ($50K) 1R losers received $520. Evans, the Drummondville champion, would have received nearly as much as a losing SFist in Irving.
Back on court again against Seppi
