The draw's out! Potential matches for the top 4:

Can't you see the parallels?

Djoker is the new Nadal for ATP and Nadal is the new Fed for ATP.
Djoker will have it easy for the rest of the year. Watch out.

So funny seeing Nadal fans who are used to cakewalk draws whine so much about just one tournament like this lol

And it's not even that bad really. Murray's form is suspect. Federer has his match up issues with Nadal and the whole racquet thing. Yes, Delpo beat nadal last year, but that was best of 3. Tomic is vastly overrated. Rafa just beat Monfils in Doha while having extra training the whole tournament according to Francisco Roig. And when was the last time hewitt beat nadal? 2006! Hewitt said himself that courts at brisbane were more slick than AO.

Tl;dr : Rafa will have his cake and eat it.

Based on the draw of expected winners. Djokovic should retain the title. He doesnt have a challange till the QF and thats "IF" GOAT stan turns up (which he probably wont)

Murray has an easy start but Isner will be a test especially fresh off an injury and if he gets past Isner then he has a tough run to the final. Dont expect to see him get to the final this time.

Nadal has a ridiculously hard draw, Tomic is a tough start then to possibly get Monfils and Nisikori and to follow that by Delpo. Even if he makes it to the final, no way he beats Djokovic.

Federer wont make it past Tsonga imo and Ferrer will probably get a spanking in the semi by Djokovic again.

I agree big John has shown time and time again that when he brings it all to the court there is not much anyone on tour can do about it. If he brings his A game then it will be a very tough day at the office indeed for Murray given the form he is in!

So a tough draw for Rafa is?

So with a 3-14 record against the current top 4 in the world (4-18 if you include Federer), "big John" really has difficulty finding his A game!

And how many times has he beaten those over 5 sets?

Well, all good things must start somewhere... why not here?

Add in Isner or Jerzy, both of whom could have been drawn.

Couldn't draw Jerzy before the fourth round as Jerzy is in the better half of the 17th-32th.
It could have been Isner or Jerzy instead of Nishi/Hewitt though.

It's a dream draw for Djokovic, his only real threat is Wawrinka who first needs to reach the quarters (if) and then play a GOAT match again (big if) and even there it doesn't have to suffice.

That's it for the bottom half. The top half is packed!

Nadal has a hard draw with Tomic in R1, Monfils in R3, Nishikori/Hewitt in R4, Del Potro in the quarters, Federer/Murray in the semis and Djokovic in the finals. If the top seeds don't drop like flies he's gonna have his hands full.

Fed has Tsonga in R4, Murray in QF, Nadal in SF, Djokovic in F. I actually think that he has a chance of reaching the semis, he still should beat Tsonga and Murray has showed nothing since his comeback, lost both matches he played this year.

I'm very VERY curious where you're basing this on. Maybe on his French Open performance last year? On his last match against Hewitt? No really, I'm seriously wondering what kind of thought was going through your mind while typing out those words.

For the record. I'm not saying he will lose. If he plays well the entire match he will surely win, but when does he ever do that anymore? But saying "he still should beat Tsonga" is so out of place.

By the way, overall Nadal has indeed got a tricky draw. But he did get a lot more lucky than Federer at R4 where he drew the #16. Imo no one in Nadal's road to the final can actually beat him, except maybe Murray. It's just a hard draw because it might tire him out, but you rarely see Nadal lose a match because he got tired out in the previous matches.

You know we all talk about tough draws and easy draws, but the bottom line is that draws open up and close up, so tough draws become easier and vice versa. Just look at Wimbledon this year and the number of "oooh, he's a potential threat/opponent in 4R or QF" etc. which melted away.

I don't think any top player looks at the draw and says to himself "Bugger, that's me done then!"

They leave all the endless speculation and intrigue to us.

Yep. Federer's draw is likely going to open.

Nadal draw will look totally different if Delpo is upset, which wouldn't be that much of a surprise either...

As for the bottom part, well, there's no way it can 'close up' with those players. It's a shame most of the contender players are all together.

Though Fed has declined, Tsonga is in crap form as well. He hasn't had a good result since that RG defeat of Federer. Fed is the easy favorite if they meet.

But then you will say:

When was the last time Isner beat him? Over 5 sets?

And Jerzy, he has never beaten Nadal!

Rafa has such a record, you know, his irrational critics can never be satisfied with his draw.
And boy, do we love that as his fans!

Isner and Jerzy have big serves that can take the game away from Rafa whereas Hewitt does not.

Now, I said that it was not that bad really because other top dogs have it or had it the same or worse. I added the 'cake' part just to incite as per TW style.

Rafa's draw as it is is moderately tough on paper; totally workable. But if you add a Jerzy or Isner, the cumulative effect of playing these players that can push Rafa might wear him down enough to increase the chance of an upset in the second week.

I agree that Rafa cannot get a tough draw at FO because he is that good.

Tough draw for Nadal and Federer. Though with Federer and Murray's form questionable, it might be easier than it looks for Nadal in the QF/SF.

R1-R4 is definitely going to be more interesting than usual for the top players this year.

Djokovic has an incredibly easy draw this time. He almost always draws Ferrer in his half. Ah, how I hate Ferrer being in the top 4!

Jerzy Janowicz is 0-2 vs Nadal. Isner is 0-4 vs Nadal. Rafa isn't so vulnerable to big servers like some make him out to be. None of the servebots have beaten him yet including Raonic (0-4 vs Nadal).
