The dreaded Berdy:

- misses out on London, but is first alternate, so might well still get in, especially as Raonic is injured
- almost guaranteed another top-ten year-end finish (unless there are at least two injuries in London)
- but likely the first year since 2009 that he will not finish either #6 or #7

Unfortunately it looks like he will again be in London. It's a reward for tremendous consistency, but I would have preferred to see Rao.

Last Birdman match I caught was against Murray in Bercy a few days ago. Berdych was completely gassed out by the end of the two sets with no power left in his legs at all. The difference in conditioning between Murray and Berdych (both big men) is massive.

I think Raonic will try to play if at all possible. This is the first really open WTF in a long time. His quad tear sounded bad the way he described it, but level 1 quad tear is the mildest and only takes 2-10 days to recover.

I dislike Berdy, but his play in Bercy was inspired. I'd very much like to see Berdy try to vulture a WTF.

In fairness to Berdych, he has only just returned to the tour after being out for a while with appendicitis (missed the US Open because of it) so probably not surprising he is not currently as fit as he normally is. That said he played well in Paris and gave Murray a tougher match than was the case in their 2 previous meetings this year.

I think people don't like Berdych because he's got the game to do damage to the top players but usually flakes out, he clearly doesn't have the self belief that he is a top player.

He used to be a thorn in the sides of Federer and Murray prior to 2014, now he plays S&M with them, the last time he beat Djokovic in my memory was at Wimbledon in 2010....and he beat Nadal at the Australian Open in 2015 after like 8 years of not beating him.

Berdych has just 2 wins against Djokovic in 27 meetings: semi-final of 2010 Wimbledon and quarter-final of 2013 Rome.
Actually djokovic should had never lose in Rome he was 6-2 5-2 up but then he imploded and lost in 3 sets:confused:
But how

Berdych lost 21 matches in a row on HC

That's great news if Raonic can play. Thanks for the update. I had taken it for granted he wouldn't play but it's great news if he can. In the event that Rao takes the court and re-aggravates the injury, will Berdych be on standby?

Yes. Someone said if Raonic has started play that Berdych as alternate cannot advance out of round robin. Raonic is still healing so he won't no for sure until Sunday. Raoslug is the 2nd match on and that is 8 days to recover for a 2-10 day injury. It sounded pretty bad when Raonic made his announcement, so he's going to be pushing it to play (Monday start would have been much better.) I am going to regret saying this, but I'd like to see Berdy vs Thiem. It wasn't possible if Raonic dropped before the draw, but now it is. Thiem is so bad he might be better running a gimpy Raonic and going for the reinjury.;) Monfils will break Raonic in two Sunday; that's the worst possible match for him to start out as Gael will snag down a lot of those big first serves and make Raonic play longer points.

Thiem on an indoor hard court is going to be such a crapfest my goodness. And on top of that we have Raonic who moves like he has a quad tear even if he doesn't have a quad tear, Guru who is interested in larger matters, and Djokovic who apparently prefers smoking weed and meditating on the mountain top to playing tennis these days.

What a great event this will be.

if Berdy can win this event look for him to be a threat at Aussie open. he is good on hard courts
