The dreaded EOY Rating thread

Some Adult Leagues may not advance to Sectionals. Hence, that's an example of a non-advancing league, correct? If an Adult League advances to Sectionals but not Nationals, what's that league called? For instance, we have a league with a local playoff between flights and advances to Sectionals in January. But, play terminates at Sectionals. The LC stated in the registration email that the matches count for NTRP ratings, but no mention was made about weightings.

Also, the source of my info about weightings is USTA League Nationals FAQ.

I have no idea about leagues that advance to a sectionals but not a nationals ... with the exception of some combo and mixed leagues that in the sections I am aware of do not count towards ratings at all.

There are also leagues that have no post season at all ... completely non-advancing. And those do count towards ratings in some sections. Thus why they can be used to manipulate ratings as that season has no Glory to be had ... but lose the right matches by the right margin against the right people and people will avoid an otherwise deserved bump.

Many sections include tournament results and results from non-advancing leagues. Intermountain is another example of this. The only leagues that do not count are Mixed and their odd summer league ... but ladies' daytime league, Fall non advancing as well as tri-level count towards ratings. Each league is weighted differently in terms of how they flow into final rating. 18+ and 40+ carry the most weight ... per LLC there the tournament results are very lightly considered.
This is from the USTA's NTRP FAQ:

Do tournament matches count more or less, than league matches, for the year-end rating?

If a Section has opted to include tournament play in their NTRP ratings, tournament results count the same as league matches.

Year End Ratings will be published on Thursday, December 1st.

You may be able to see your rating as early as 9pm today.

per a USTA email from LA.

I woke up at 12:30 and couldn’t go back to sleep! I won’t be able to sleep tonight until I see my rating.
About 85% stay the same. Most can go to bed assuming they stay the same and be surprised in the morning if they aren't. But perhaps you are an exception

In addition;

Which matches count toward my rating and which matches do not count toward my rating?

All USTA Leagues (i.e. 18 & Over, 40 & Over, 55 & Over, 65 & Over) are included in the year-end NTRP rating
calculation. Mixed Doubles Division results will only have an effect on the ratings of players who play exclusively
Mixed Doubles. Each Section has the option to include or exclude other adult leagues as well as NTRP
tournaments.
Ladders, non-sanctioned leagues and non-sanctioned tournament results shall not be used to
produce year-end ratings.

What happens to the matches that we played after the ratings cut-off date? Do they apply to next year's rating or just disappear?

USTA sends out an email saying that new year ratings are published and you should log in to see your new rating.
Or, if you're more impatient, log into TennisLink, look up a player such as yourself under the "NTRP Info" search area, and pay attention to the Year End Rating date. Reload, and at some point overnight you will see it switch to 2022. Of course I wouldn't know personally; that's just what an impatient friend of mine says he does. :)

I’m going in right at 9 PM PT!

Still feel a little new to ratings and league tennis but was told by my teammates that there’s a strong possibility of me being bumped up. USTA has had me as a 4.0 since my high school days (since 10 years ago). I’ve mostly played tournaments and not as much league up until last year so that’s probably why I never bumped up but I never realized how much of a big deal it seems like to people. Just curious, do people keep an eye for ratings that closely or are we celebrating the fact that we might be getting better?

Almost everyone is praying they don't get bumped up, or bumped down in my case.

In some years they advertised the time to publish with a timer, and then didn't publish and had to reset the timer for several hours later. In others it has been promptly midnight eastern, others within 30 minutes after. We sit and wait.

I haven't seen our ratings change yet, but I recall it taking an hour or two for the changes to roll through the system.

By the way, I just discovered that if you are a team captain, you can see the rating and the rating date for every player on your roster. That seems to be the page to monitor if you have access. Unfortunately you don't get the extra player info if you're not the captain.

I did the advanced search by section > district > flight etc and found everyone in a list with the rating dates. And I"m not the captain.

Yeah, that did it. I now have a list of every player in the region, and most of them are showing 12/31/22 now.

My new end-of-year rating showed this evening 11/30/2022. I checked it little past 11 pm CT. Now a 3.5C
