"The Dream is to win Roland Garros AGAIN" -- Roger Federer

I hope he doesn't. He's going to be nearly 37 by then. He needs to arrive at Wimbledon in prestine shape. We don't want him grinding his body down at RG or risking injury.
True, but without Nadal in the field, wouldn’t you like his chances against any given player? Thiem would be tough of course but I’d give Fed at least at 50% chance if they met. The problem on clay is that random guys could eliminate Fed more easily, and if he can’t win a USO, how can he make it through a FO?

I would.

In the first round.

Things can be disputed/undisputed even in one's own mind irrespective of other people's opinions.

That's not what "undisputed GOAT" means. It does NOT mean, "I used to think that maybe he was the GOAT, but now I'm certain he's the GOAT, so it's undisputed!" No, sorry. "Undisputed GOAT" means that everyone (at least in the relevant community, i.e., tennis fans/pundits/players) agrees that he's the GOAT. You can't make any issue "undisputed" all by yourself.

I agree. I can't make any issue undisputed by myself. But i can certainly make an issue undisputed for myself.

Here he comes for it.. Nadal surely would have many sleepless nights from now..

“[It depends on] how I feel, it's much more than a decision, it's the decision of the year, it's in the middle of the year, it's a surface change.

“I'm going to focus on the hard but honestly, I hope.”
I very much suspect he's not playing and just saying whatever he needs to say to a French outlet.

Could anyone see Roger having private warmups on clay and not actually playing any of the lead up tournaments like rome or monte carlo?

I can see exactly this happening. It’s actually logical. No need for a warm up, he’s got the first few rounds at RG to get match tuned and tweak the tactics for the second week.

As #1~2 he’ll have some good matches to get his teeth into clay without needing to go for a masters.

Please Roger, don't do it, don't get greedy and jeopardize your career.
How do playing the premier tennis tournament on the European Continent a bad move, especially playing as well a he his playing and his main rivals on the downside of their careers?

Roger may not win RG again, but he can live out that dream in another form or two

Guau, never seen pics of the twins. Whichever one is on the left has serious Roger-face!

How pathetic. You don't want your fav player to compete at a tournament incase he hurts himself. Embarassing:rolleyes:

*incase he loses*

The old injury nonsense is just that. Nonsense.

Fed was cleared last year to play on clay.

It’s even more pathetic then you imagined.

with the form he is in right now? I dont think so.. i think fed has a real shot.. even with nadal in the final.. :)

Disagree. Even the best Federer form from 2017 is unlikely to be good enough for clay. It is not just Nadal he needs to worry about. On top of that I haven't seen him play that well in 2018 so far. I mean the level he showed in AO/IW/Miami and the grass season in 2017 hasn't surfaced in 2018 yet.

What's pathetic is the meltdown you're having at the thought of a Federer fan realizing that the holy grail is Wimbledon and that Federer shouldn' be jeaprodizing his chances there by grinding his body down at the age of 37 on a slow court.

If you want to keep crying, go ahead. Jesus Christ, some of these Nadal fans.

And you only want him to play so he hurts himself. We’ve seen this from many fanboys in the last couple of years and they all have one thing in common.

Well put. He's desperate for a Federer injury and he's sulking at the thought of Federer keeping himself fresh for Wimbledon.

I really don't think so. Some might not agree but I don't think Nadal is the only obstacle. Federer hasn't been relevant at RG since 2011. All he's going to do is tire himself out when he really should be arriving at Wimbledon in great shape.
If he were to play and mess up his back the way he did at Montreal last year, we'd be disappointed.

Wimbledon is the goal. It always has been. That's the biggest tournament in tennis and I - for one - want him to maximise his chances there.

I am not here to impose my views on anyone. What i meant to say was that, if Fed wins RG 18, i will consider him the undisputed GOAT (joining the 'rest of the world' as you say - though whether all except me consider Fed the undisputed GOAT is a different topic altogether).

However, that doesn't mean I would stop being a fanboy of Rafa. How can I? One doesn't need stats to be a fan. I have been a fan of Rafa since 2005, when he had zero slams and a ordinary set of stats.

Nice post.

Some FedFans are just fidgety at the moment, it would have to do with your boy Rafa exacting his toll on them for a decade - don’t mind them too much.

Haters want Roger's winning streak to end and/or him get injured. What's the best possibility for that? - him playing on Clay.

Hence all the clamor for him play disguised in various forms - 'No.1 shouldn't skip a slam', 'He should challenge Rafa on clay', 'He can win another RG'

Thankfully for us fans, it's pretty clear Roger is not going to jeopardize his chances at Wimbledon and the USO.

He will throw a bone to the press who like to play the "will-he-won't-he" game, but look for him to stick to last year's winning formula

It's a shame I can't like this post more than once.

Wut lol

Stan ended Fed’s clay career 2 years ago and now he’s gonna beat the KoC?

1) Stan was is the form of his life during RG 2015 and a very deserved winner of the whole tournament.

2) Nobody ended anything concerning Federer in 2015 because he plays better with his new racket now. We are still waiting to see how his improved backhand will do on clay. And it will do very well if you ask me.

3) Nadal is and always will be the man to beat on clay. But who knows, maybe his clay season is closer to his 2015/16 than to last year?

It’s obvious that Federer has thought about this clay season for quite sometime maybe even from last year so he will not go for it without proper preparation.

But I think it’s a mistake if he tried hard for clay season. He is not the favorite. There are a lot of guys can beat him even in his good days. So he needs a good draw and form which is not guaranteed. And how about his knee? Doesn’t it respond terribly in 2015?

His focus should be on grass as always. Wasting energy to pursue a shadow on dirt could lead to a disaster considering he is very old and injury prone now.

If he really really wants to play, he should play only Madrid and French Open. Or Rome and French Open. I prefer the latter. That’s a good preparation and it’s short.

WIth the field right now, Fed could have a good chance if he takes a long break after Miami, possibly play only Rome as a tune up and gear up for RG. We know Fed doesnt need to a lot of match practice and he could play Rome only to get acclimatized to clay. And as the top seed, he wont meet Rafa till the final. I personally, even as a Nadal fan, would love for Roger to win it again.
The only problem, as it has been his whole career, is that Nadal is still boss
