Atrowurst, you have the tension pretty high. It is better at 50-52#s if you go full poly. The racquet does not have a lot of power at all.

Too high? I usually string in the 65 range.
I even noticed the "low" tension on some strokes, where the ball would go longer than I wanted.

Just joined the club. I bought 2 Dunlop 4d 200s from someone on the boards here.

Is there any sure fire way to tell if a Dunlop is genuine or not? I dont want to assume the seller wasnt being honest at all but I just wanted to check.

I weighted my racquets yesterday and they both came in at 12.5oz and 12.6 oz. Both where the correct head light balance. They were fully strung(hybrid string job), had a single overgrip on them(tournagrip), and had power pads on the bottom string loops of the frame inside the yoke.

Im not sure if an overgrip and a few powerpads are enough to bump up the overall weight over half an ounce but it would be nice to know what some of you long time Dunlop users think.

For what its worth the racquets are in immaculate shape (easily 9.5/10) and from pictures Ive seen online here at TW I cant find any discrepancies in mine.

I hit with them yesterday and they both hit great. Not as much spin as I am used to (I usually play a 16X19/18) but I made the adjustment. Great plow through, especially for my 1 handed backhand, and (despite what TW's review says) the racquet was awesome on serve.

Overall Im 100% satisfied, I just have that little birdie in my ear telling me that they weigh more than the listed spec.

Do you hit with enough spin? Honestly, the 200 is so low powered. You can get away with 62#s or so if you hybrid or use a syngut job, thats what I did. But I was hitting flatter strokes then I should have been for my game.

CK, that sounds right. My 200s weighed 351 grams with string and dampener.Add a tourna grip and powerpads and that would take it close to 360.

I had almost given up on the 4D 200 because of its high swingweight and slight lack of manoeuvrability. I then decided to regrip with weight reduction in mind and it worked! With the original Dunlop grip my 4D 200s weighed ~355gms. I regripped with 2 overgrips and ended up with ~345gms! The swingweight lessened and the manoeuvrability improved so much so that these will be keepers for awhile. Surprisingly the stability, solidity and control remained the same.

This racquet is for a very specific target. If you want to hit anyway you want without moving, preparation and timing you better get a tweener.

Sexpistol, if your comment was meant for me then please don't be so quick to assume that I am suited for a tweener. I know what kind of racquet it is.

I am coming from a Revelation 200g which has been my primary racquet since 1997(started playing in 1979). The trade off between the 2 is better feel and manoeuvrability with the Rev vs better stability control and accuracy with the 4D 200. Just wanted to give other people who may have felt the 4D 200 was bit to unwieldy a way of making it less so.

Absolutely love this racquet. I play tested for a while and finally decided to go with it. Coming from the Rebel 95, the swingweight of the 4D 200 isn't an issue and being a little lighter in the static weight definitely helps during the course of a match.

I tried a few set ups with it. Black Code mains/X-one crosses were good, but I'm a gut user and eventually went back to it. I have it strung with Tonic + mains/Hurricane Feel crosses and it feels great.

With my new dunlop 200s I was noticing an exceptionally high static and swingweight compared to stock and it was because the individual I bought from had replaced the original grip with a leather grip plus used a tournagrip overgrip. They also had power pads on the strings too. This had the racquet weight up at 357 grams. Last night I took off all grips and replaced with 2 wilson pro overgrips and my overall racquet weight went down to 337 grams. 20 grams difference will hopefully make this a little more manuverable my next time out. Next time I restring Ill get rid of the power pads and reduce the weight even further.

cknobman, that is a huge decrease in static and swing weight! The beauty of the 4D 200 is that much of its inherent stability, solidity and control remains after some weight loss. :)

Interesting takes on the 4D 200. My only gripe with it is the lack of pop. I grew up on Head OS frames (Agassi) and even after hitting with a few Prestige and Rad Mid and Mid + frames there seems to be a "pop" that the 4D 200 lacks in spite of it feeling almost as solid as a Prince Original Graphite. As Rev 200g alluded to there is a crazy amount of inherent stability that doesn't translate into plow through. I prefer the 18x20, but have been tempted by the open pattern on the 4D 200 Tour. I have experimented with lead at 10 & 2, and 3 & 9 but it's not there. I'm considering a switch to the Prince EXO Graphite Mid, Head YT Prestige Mid, and Head YT Speed 18x20. Gonna demo them before the weather breaks.

Hey guys, recently got a second-hand 200 4d 16x19 and its static weight came up to 334g instead of the 327g as on tw europe specs.

So I popped open the butt cap to find a 2g ball of lead tape within a space that was dug out of a white foam-like material in the handle.

I know the lead was the work of the previous owner but what about the foam? Does anybody know if the stock 200 4d 16x19 or even the 18x20 comes with foam in the handle? And what about the extra 5g after taking away the weight of the lead? Within Dunlop QC or weight from the foam(if the previous owner did indeed add the foam)?

Sorry for the multitude of questions and thanks in advance!

Dont worry about the foam. Every racquet in the last 6 years I have owned has had a handle filled with foam.

As for trying to get it back to stock weight it will be hard to replace the foam. I guess you could go to home depot, lowes, or some other builder supply store and buy a small can of insulating foam and use it to fill up the area that was dug out in your racquet. You could also just take out some of the lead in there already until you get back to stock weight.

Honestly though your only looking at 7 grams difference which is very very minor maybe 2/10 of an ounce? But then again a small difference does matter. Heck I just tore down the entire handle on both of my 4D 200's and rebuilt with ovegrips and left off the rubber grip cover just to shave off 1/2 ounce.

cknobman, thanks for your reply.

Like you said, 7g is minor and I don't mind it being heavier that the tw specs. It's just that I want to know if the foam in the handle was a customization made by the previous owner that contributed to the added weight. Because I love the feel of the racket as it is and if I were to get another one, I don't want to worry about it feeling different in the case that the stock 4d 200 16x19 didn't actually have foam in the handle.

So can any 4d 200 user help me verify?

Anybody tried the Aerogel 4D 200 18X20 with RIP Control string? Full bed or hybrid? If so, any recommendations? Other string recommendations are of course welcome too.

Also, if anybody played with the Babolat Pure Storm Limited too, would you say that that frame is similar Aerogel 4D 200 18X20? I read they are both low-powered control-orientated frames. How is the feel?

I demo'd the non GT and bought the GT versions of that racket. The non GT and this Dunlop, for me, measurably stood out from the other 16 or so rackets I demo'd. I feel the older PSL was a tad softer (not a bad thing), a little more head light and therefore had slightly less power than the Dunlop. I love this Dunlop racket and I can say, perhaps due to the slightly higher swing weight, I have NEVER used a racket that felt better on my volleys. One handed backhands? Amazing.

I hope that helps.

I dont know if a fair comparison can be made here,...but i have the Aerogel 200 (not4D),.....and the Pure Storm Limited,......and between THOSE two.....the PSL is a lot lowered powered to me,....both are great sticks mind You....just different,...

I also have the non-GT PSL and I love it. I'm considering getting a Vantage VT221 320g 63RA 16x19 to complement it, but I can buy two Dunlop Aerogel 4D 200s for the price of one VT221.

I wonder about the feel of the Aerogel 4D 200 18x20. I have an Aerogel 300 16x18 and I'm not very happy on its (lack of) feel, even with a semi-leather grip and 3g of lead at 3 and 9. The PSL feels a lot more 'substantial' and solid. I wonder whether that comes from its higher static weight, string pattern or construction/layup.

I have not held a Vantage in my hands yet, but I heard they feel pretty solid due to the fact that they are completely foam-filled.

Orion, you ever hit with the Tfight 320 or 325 V02? You may love one of those if you are looking for pop.

PP long time no talk to. I ended up nixing my trip to Orlando. I'll be down in the Spring so I'll reach out to ya.

I bought a Tfight (can't recall which one) back in 06 and ended up giving it to my brother. He like it better than the racquet he was using. It was a 16x20. I remember wishing it was an 18x20. There was something I didn't like about the feel. It did have nice pop, still not Head pop. I may jump on a Tour once the prices drop down to $129.

Nice keep me posted on the trip.

The Tfight I am referring too is different than the model you hit with. Way different, especially in terms of pop..I would compare it to a more manuevarable K95.

Hmmmm...I checked out the specs. The 18x20 looks intriguing. Would you classify the frame as a tweener? From reading the reviews it seems like it could be an "almost tweener", pretty close to the YT Rad MP but with more control. Reminds me of the Babolat PDR, which I liked up to a point. I love everything about the 4D 200 except it's awfully hard to put shots away. I'll add the TF 325 V02 on my next TW demo.

I really want to hit with one of the new Donnay's but I'm not playing enough lately to justify the cost, even taking their unique demo system in account. I'm hoping they fall on tough times or come to their senses and drop those frames at least $100.

I'd compare it to just being a real modern stick. Not a tweener, but close. It can hang with the tweeners in terms of power. Best comparison is the lighter version of the k95.

Hi guys,

I've been happily using my 4d200 18x20 for a year or so and recently bought 16x19 version. It's a bit lighter and I feel like my game is improving. Also I found no loss in control at all. Overally new stick fine tunes my game. 16x19 version is seem an optimal choice for a strong but small man. I have more options now with 16x19.

I don't have any problems with topspin, backspin and side spin on groundies. Back spinning volleys is very good too. However I'm looking for a string combination to improve my topspin 2nd serve which is still not perfect. I'm now using Big Ace micro at 53/51 (which I love)

Any recommendations? Hybriding with very soft cross multi?

thanks

I just played with my new AG 4D 200 16x19. This racquet is sick! Why didn't you guys tell us that it's such a great racquet?

Rock solid, feels like the BLX95, only with a more user-friendly weight and swingweight. Plus it has a sexy, thin, box beam. The whole racquet face feels like a sweetspot, I couldn't feel any vibrations, even on off-center shots. I thought it would be low power like the old AG 200 16x19, but this one launches rockets at the slightest provocation. What a monster!

I measured the balance and it's 6pts HL instead of 8pts HL, which is the target balance, so maybe that's why it feels so solid. No lead tape needed on this baby.

And what's with the crazy paint job. Is this the best paint job ever?

Wow, I'm blown away, I ordered 2 more.

played the signum in the 16x19 and it was decent little less power then the rpm 1.25.... i suggest the rpm 1.25 at 52lbs since the range on this stick is higher. also i had my sticks match at **** and they feel crazy good, i added about 6 inches of lead at 3 and 9 4 6in strips and makes it even smoother... great racquet its just a shame they dont sell it in the states too.

rpm is too expensive for me. I tried black code 17 and 18 and it was ok for the first 30 minutes. Pentagonal profile becomes round very fast. Also I don't like the control it provided. Blue Gear provided me best spin (without much power) but my elbow didn't like it. I'm going to test soft cross multi in a week or two. I think this will work as BAM mains should provide better spin. I want to try dunlop max comfort multi as cross string

JediMindTrick,
mine 16x19 is exactly 7pts head light. Today I installed a 1/2 of volkl leather grip (I have 1HBH) and added some lead at 3&9. It's ~8pts HL now. Nice combination btw

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, hoping that the 2 racquets that are coming are also 6pts HL, so I don't have to worry about lead tape. I ordered from the same store, so there is a chance. I'm also toying with the idea of putting a leather grip on them, but maybe later.

At this point, I got caught up in the madness started by the TW Professor, with the gut/multi mains/poly crosses, that is supposed to give you extra spin and power, so I'll be trying different hybrids. I wasn't even planning to change racquets, but this beauty is amazing.

Interested in the 18x20, help me with some questions?:
1. Is the grip relatively round? Box-y grips tend to twist in my hand.
2.Strings? I'm thinking WC silversting or scorpion, both around 1.20-1.25 area, at 55 or 56. Would that be stiff due to a 18x20 pattern and a slightly above average stiffness? Listed 62 but heard it plays stiffer.

Me. I play all-court, 1hbh. Loves forehands. Step into net at any open chances. Needs a more demanding racquet to step up my game. Don't know my ranking, don't even care, play for high school(will continue tennis), looking for fun but trying to get better as well.
Is it a racquet that will "train" a person? Really looking into it. Demo when I can, and buy afterwards(highly doubt I will not like it).

Please share your thoughts on this racquet.. :)

Context: I only started tennis over a year ago but had intensive lessons for about 8 months before I moved to friendly games and swinging sessions. I started with the KBlade Team as a tweener racket and now wanted something to bring my game further as I find I am getting more sloppy with the KBlade's friendliness and weight.

Thoughts on Dunlop racket: It's not the most demanding or forgiving racket. It lets you know when you hit well (aka a full swing). If one does not push forward, you net the ball. Therefore, I am loving this racket now as I am always reminded to put in discipline into my footwork and swing.

Serves are strong and I love the stability on my volleys as opposed to the KBlade Team.

The sound of the pop is fantastic on a good swing and even coming from a 104" headsize, I am having little problems with the 95" now. All I needed was the discipline to make it work.

In summary, the Dunlop 16x19 switch has been a great one. I am learning tennis all again, remembering my coaching, AND still having fun (as in I'm not playing that badly to quit the racket). I intend to use the racket as my primary racket and appreciates the increased swingweight.

P.S.: I bought the racket pre-owned and strung at 56 lbs. I am thinking of getting it to 52 lbs to get more contact duration with the ball.

i just bought a 4D200. i have question for many of you. mine strung (with stock grip only) weight is 332g instead of 337g. what does this mean??

every time i read reviews i keep hearing people say it's nice and solid and feels muted, but mine doesn't at all. when compared to my AG100, it made it feel like the 4D200 feel like it's cheaply made.

i bought it from a guy on here, used. and i have leaded up to match my AG100 of 363g to see any difference, but even then the AG100 was even more solid and muted, much more.

If anyone's interested, I just received my new 4d 200 18x20 today (not from TW, as they didnt have a 4 3/8 in stock) - can post my thoughts once I've hit with it. Recently, I demo'd a 4d 200 from a local shop and felt it was a solid performer... stable, nice feel, but most importantly I could hit spots on the court surprisingly well - such an accurate frame. If I relaxed on serve, I could really bomb'em - even with the syn gut demo string. Considering the sub-$100price, I decided to order a new one.

I hit with a lot of top on both sides (2HBH) and expect to get enough spin from this frame to suffice. I was always happy with my Flexpoint instincts, despite their 18x19 pattern (they were leaded up to 12 oz), and I'd enjoyed plenty of top from my Babolate PDR and Microgel Rad Pros. Looking back, my best tennis came from the Radical Pros. The 200 should work really well for me, though, owing to a slightly less swingweight, yet still hefty enough to produce a heavy ball. I was told my ball was really heavy with the Rad Pros, so I will be hoping for more of the same with the 200. It weighs a bit more and has a respectable SW.

My 200 arrived strung with a translucent purple (!) co-poly. Color aside, I'm happy it's got something better than bottom-feeder syngut.

Taking it out tomorrow for a hit. I weighed it with a babolat overgrip and it came to 342 grams (12.06 ozs). Hopefully it will work out without resorting to lead experimentation.

4d 200 Serves - Check...

Wow can this frame serve. I was hitting big 1sts with the demo string, but with the poly (new frame came strung with a textured poly) the ball is getting outstanding action on kicks and slices. The strings are tiiightly strung - I guess I would never have thought to try a setup at 60+ pounds, which this string job must have been pulled to.

Could only hit against the backboard as my partner had a conflict. I did notice the extra weight after about 5 mins. Less swing weight than my MG rad pro, but heavier stick overall.

I couldn't be happier with the serving experience. I'll have to make the groundies work - they were rewarding enough with the demo. Thumbs way up so far...

The Dunlop Aerogel 4D 200 comes in two forms... the standard 18x20 and the 16x19 a.k.a. "TEAM"

If you use any of the two or better still, if you own/use both, then this is your thread.

We all know of how this is such a great racket but there's always something in between that can make it perform even better. It might be just as simple as choosing the proper string and dialing it in to complements your style or to heavy customization such as lead applications or alterations or just want to give praise to this wonderful stick or even some short brief reviews and how it transformed your level of playing a notch higher or some helpful tips or just ask questions about your 4D 200...

Let us hear it... let's hear some amazing stories!

Oh yeah... don't forget to post some photos of your 4D 200 or you with your 4D 200 (if you don't mind) :)

A quick glance at the Dunlop Aerogel 4D 200...

Well, it's about to be that time to change some grommets on these sticks of mine, (the 16x19's that is). Anyone know where grommet sets can be found? Either that, or does anyone know if this mold matches any others, maybe AG200 16x19, or Mfil 16x19? Any info or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I like it better than the 300 Tour. I just wish they make a regular 200 with 16x19 string pattern.
The 300 Tour is nothing without lead tape but unfortunately it does not feel the same after tweeking, so it kind of fased out for me.
The 200 "lite" is the most powerfull of the bunch, not by much but I can feel it. Control is great as is with every dunlop out there. Spin is much better than the other two. I find it fast swinging.
The best dunlop is however the 200 Tour. I even like it better than the wilson tour 90...but I can only last about 45 min of play with it.
The regular 200 is the racquet I mostly used for the last two years. If it would have just a little bit bigger sweetspot I would have kept it in my bag.
Of all these Dunlops I play best with the lite but even that is surpassed by the prestige.

If I were to rank them:
POWER: 1. 200T, 2. 200lite, 3. prestige, 4. 200, 5. 300T
Control: 1. 200 = prestige, 2. 300T, 3. 200T, 4. 200 lite.
Confort: 1. 200T, 2. 200, 3. 300T, 4. 200lite = prestige.

So, there you go...Good Luck!
(if I could only sell the lites or exchange them for some prestiges :))

babolat is more stiff, powerful and spinny has more juice on serve too but the dunlop is an all control frame and the feel is just crazy you can put the ball on a dime with. both stick are like the day and the night. i really prefer the dunlop over the babolat. i played with the aerogel 4d 200 16x19 and can't find better.
