The Greatest Match Of Wimbledon?

For years now all concerned from the media to players go to the rivalry of Roger Federer and Raphael Nadal as the greatest with their 2008 Wimbledon Final being labeled "The Greatest Match!" I just happened upon a tape with misc. clips of TV shows, movies, and the 2019 Wimbledon Final with Djokovic and Federer! It came to me that ESPN Classic or TCC might not readily and automatically go to '08 from now on with the 2019 Final ending in the new TB at 12-ALL! Will that make a difference with people? I would think 2019 replaces '08 unless you want to think FEDAL a lot more prominent in history than Fedovic will ever be! I'll go with '80, Borg's 5th!

Rafa and Fed are simply more popular, more recognizable, and more liked by fans. Don't think they would play the WC19 more often.

Plus, I will never watch that match again, but the 08 I can live with. Sure many Fed fans feel the same.

Why is Nadal/Federer Wimbledon 2008 considered the greatest match ever? Djokovic/Wawrinka AO2013 was better in terms of incredible shotmaking, offense and defense combined with bludgeoning power in a 5 set thriller! Federer/Safin was also a great 5 setter at AO2005 as was Djokovic/Nadal 2012 AO final.

I'm a Fed fan and nothing comes close to 1980. And I didn't really like either Borg or McEnroe!

Connors over McEnroe in 82 was better than the recent ones, as was Edberg over Becker in 90.

A lot of recency bias going on.

The current era was at the height of it's popularity. The story was there, the match took all day and we had no idea what would happen, Nadal's 3 year story culminated. So many reasons. Matches have had better quality groundstrokes for sure, but the total package of this generation was Wimby 08. It'll be a LONG time if ever, that as many non-fans watch a match again like W8, it was pop culture

I don't! That's the consensus amongst tennis aficionados! I can't even remember if I watched it back then in '08! I never was a fan of Nadal so I couldn't save it to tape which keeps "this senior's" brain cooking! I have to see some things repeatedly to remember them at times!

Same could be said for when as a wildcard, Goran won in an epic after trying for over a decade, with Rafter losing two close finals in a row. Now THAT'S drama.

Or Becker vs Edberg in 1990, which was effectively a tie breaker after they had one go each way the previous two years. That match had everything.

How many people saying either of the two recent matches were the best were adults watching the above two matches live .. and how many were just kids who've at best seen youtube replays?

That's why from looking at the 2008 Wimbledon final on YouTube, it's not sharp or crisp in quality as compared to Federer/Roddick Wimbledon final 2009 and the matches following that.
