The Head TGK 238.5 YTPP club :)

Just thought I'd post an update on my TGKs... Strung them yesterday with Lux BB Alu Power @52lbs and Prince Premier LT 130mm @60lbs - had a hit with it today and i'm amazed at how comfortable it is!!

Even the NXT\Alu Power combo wasn't this comfy. Would recommend it for peeps that love Lux but get a little sore after using it.

Having an issue with my 238.5 and lead on the hoop.

I really like the feeling and performance when I polarize the frame a little more BUT if I focus the lead near the top of the hoop, I get weird vibrations (like a flutter in the frame) hitting in the middle of the string bed or lower.

If i spread the lead out and add more at 3&9 and along the sides, the frame feels more solid, sweetspot feels sweeter and bigger, and there aren't weird vibrations. But then it is depolarized.

Currently I have 2 layers of lead (meaning 1 layer on each side of the frame) from 2 to 10. Then I have a total of 8 layers on the sides (double layer strips, 2 strips from 2 to 4 o'clock and 2 strips from 8 to 10 o'clock).

Any suggestions how I can polarize the frame without messing up the sweetspot feeling? More lead, less lead? I really liked have double layers from 2-10 o'clock, but the whole bottom half of the string bed felt horrible.

Thanks!

I know what you mean about polarized vs 3/9 stability and the flutter. My YTs are set up for stability with lead at 3/9 and my IGs have a polarized setup. My feeling on the IGs is that you get used to it to the point where you don't notice it after playing with it for a while. I don't know if I would get the same feeling on the YTs. My feeling is that the IGs are far more stable than the YTs overall - I don't need the lead tape at 3/9 for stability.

Crap...I read the instructions carefully and I got 310 :-?

Everytime, on both racquets I get 13.4 for 10 swings, the distance from the bottom to the hanging point is 62.8 cm

So my SW actually decreased by removing weight from the handle by replacing it with a synthetic one...

That doesn't sounds logic also...by removing weight from the handle it means that is less HL therefore more SW...It's strange and now I will have to add lead under the caps from 3 o'clock, all the way to 9 o'clock (including 12 o'clock), like Safin had. The question is if in the handle also or not?

. Less weight anywhere means less SW.

Ya, I'm actually considering trading my 238.5 for some more retail Prestige Pro's because I actually like the stiffness more. I hit just above center on the stringbed and the stiffness of the retail PP seems to work better for me, where as the 238.5 flutters too much.

I will try to run lead all the way up and down the sides and see if it it stretches the sweetspot and takes the flutter away. As it is, if it's polarized, the top of the stringbed is more stable and responsive, but the rest of the stringbed doesn't feel great. If it's depolarized, the center of the stringbed is better, but top of the stringbed flutters.

I had one TGK that didn't have this issue (a 238.4), but that's because when I got it it had a swing weight of 402 (static weight about 380), and it had a total of 8 layers of lead from 3 around to 9 o'clock. It's was amazingly solid and had good spin, but a little tough to handle after about 1-1.5 hours of heavy hitting.

^^ I know what you mean, do you use a dampner? As I'm pretty sure that would stop the weird vibrations.

I use dampeners anytime I have string vibrations. This definitely isn't a string vibration issue, it's the frame itself flexing and rebounding. The first frame I felt this on (because it was a little extreme) was a Speed ig300 that I owned for a while. Hitting the top of the stringbed would make the frame flutter/stutter/shutter. Since I usually center my hits 1 or 2 strings above center, that frame never felt good and hurt my elbow. I tend to gravitate towards stiffer frames simply because the top of the stringbed doesn't feel dead, low powered, and flutter like many players frames. So far, my favorite player frame is the I.Prestige Mid (have tried the MP yet), and it's not surprising since the I.Prestige is known for a stiffer upper hoop.

I have ten inches of lead at 3/9 (6.5 and then 3.5 over that) and that gets rid of any flutter. But the SW is 361 which many consider high and my static is > 13.0. I was thinking of going with the IG Prestige MP with all of the lead at the top. I think that I could get the static weight down to about 346 (compared to 376 now) with the SW still at 361 and the IG would take care of the harshness and flutter.

I have 2 immaculate retail ytpp if you fancy a trade deal?

I'm still playing with the set up to see what I can do with it. I appreciate the offer though. A few months ago, it felt pretty good and I feel like I've just been getting father away from what I'm looking for. But I just shifted more weight to the sides from the top and I'll play it as soon as the rain stops and see how it feels (this is exactly why I have a super cheap reel of nylon string!)

I did just put gut/poly on my retail PP. I had that set up the last few months on my 238.5, before I messed with the set up, and it played amazing. So I'm wondering if I had the same strings on the PP, how it would play (meaning, did my 238.5 play so well before because it's a better racket for me or because I've always had better strings on it?).

I'll keep your offer in mind though and get back to you if I decide to change some rackets around.
