This group loves dem drop tunings. I believe this song is in Drop C#. You really hear the punch and power behind their tone. Also, I notice that they harmonize their vocals downward as opposed to upward to emphasize this.

Man, just finished listening to the full album. It's a great experience, you guys have a lot of variety and the riffs... Just brilliant. The harsh vocals are pleasing as well.
Will need to listen to it a couple more times to truly appreciate it and it's tracks, but thanks man, it's sounds great. Point of no return is probably my favourite track after one listen, it'll be interesting to see how that evolves.

Had forgot about that Marty Friedman guy, but he's indeed due a new solo record named "Wall Of Sound".
It pleases me a bit more than his previous effort, "Inferno". "Inferno" had absurd amounts of gain that distracted me from the music, and I didn't enjoy listening to it. I have the same issue with Megadth's "Endgame" despite genuinely thinking that it was a very solid effort. I do remember (without being completely sure) "Endgame" to be brick-walled, which didn't help.

After Alex Lifeson said Rush was calling quits, it's Slayer that announces a farewell tour. I'm not too surprised not only because of Hanneman's death, but also because of the various interviews in which Tom Araya felt very unenthusiastic about touring, wanting to spend more time with his family.

I only listen to Classic Rock now but used to be into Progressive, Heavy, Black and Gothic as well and collected CDs like crazy. So so many rock bands back then.
Not or not strictly Heavy Metal but anyone here likes Royal Hunt (best album to me: Paradox), Savatage and Rakoth?
Very low-profiled but Rakoth (Epic Black/Doom/Folk Metal) was probably my favourite Underground band among quite many. Very unique, abstract, melodic and atmospheric. Best albums: Planetshift and Jabber Works.

After Pat Torpey from Mr. Big passed away recently from the disease, it's now Glenn Tipton who retires from touring at age 70 due to Parkinson's disease. It had been diagnosed a decade ago, but the disease's progression no longer allows him to tour anymore. As a result, the band has now lost its first two guitarists. Judas Priest new album Firepower is due for release on March 9th.

Are/were you into this music?
I used to be at least pretty familiar with all kinds of Death, Black, Gothic, Doom etc. but even some Brutal Death was "easier" on the ears than this (not that I like that genre - just at least tried them all).

Yeah, I was into heavy music in my teens - the filthier and edgier sounding the better. I think partly, it was because it was a relatively easy type of music to start playing, as it relies heavily on rhythmical patterns that you can piece together in a linear fashion, with little knowledge of music theory. I soon became bored with that and started to explore traditional song writing/composition. I seldom listen to it nowadays. Have always appreciated a broad spectrum of music since childhood. Even more so nowadays.

I have listened to some really crazy music and "non-music" in rock, thanks to my wanting to "try" everything. But I never associated that word with any of it. my biggest regret, and I hate regrets, is that music and all those rock concerts I've attended weren't too kind to my ears, which I didn't recognise until years later. So stupid.

It's been a few months, and it's not technically Metal but anyway. For the 40th Anniversary of the album "A Farewell to Kings", and essentially as a parting "gift" to their fans, Rush released a fairly expansive (and expensive!) version of said album. Obviously contains a few goodies, is available in four versions. Among the bonuses are four covers version by other bands/artists of songs on this album. Here's Dream Theater's version of the song Xanadu. And yes, for once we can actually hear John Myung.

Wearing their influences a little too boldly on their sleeves, but I can't help but enjoy the music because if it ain't broke...
Also, 3:30 (In Memoriam) sounds like it was directly taken from the Transformers: The Movie soundtrack.

Don't know if they were mentioned upthread but I got to watch German band The Ocean live in Feb. I have seen Maiden, Scorpions, Satyricon plus some local metal bands but none of them could handle a candle to Ocean. They were just totally brutal. Tight as could be when they played and very jovial and friendly after the show. The drummer actually got off stage and joined the front row in screaming, "One more song! " at the band!
