G.O.A.T.
We had the positive to negative shift poll. Let's try the opposite.

Only the current/recent era is included in the poll, but you can mention any other-era player, male or female.

The choices I made for the poll are semi-random, considering that there are only 10 poll options which isn't nearly enough.

I picked Medvedev whom I totally disliked and found very boring - until the US Open last year.

Where's Murray in the poll? I was thoroughly bored by his game, but he's outspoken and not afraid to be politically incorrect. He's a smart bloke.

Out of the poll options, Tsitsipas's RG19 rant is the reason I became a fan in the first place, so probably him.

I disliked Nadal at first. I was a huge Fed fan right from the start and Nadal was his biggest rival so I thought of him as the villain. His style was also a polar opposite of Fed's gentleman-like, graceful, good-guy game which only intensified it. But then I kinda liked him as a person and overtime I learned to appreciate his game.

I also didn't like Murray for a long time, but now I like him.

I never disliked either of them (I generally can't come to dislike people I've never met), but I've come to like both Murray and Roddick more over the years because of their wit and moral substance.

Opposite situation here - like Rafa when he talks and everything off the court but I don't like him on the court nor his play.

Your description of Nadal is exactly how I thought of Fed. I started watching right at his peak, when Nadal and Djokovic were just starting to challenge him, so he fit perfectly into the bad-guy role, especially with the all-black outfits and stoic no-fks-given attitude. Over the years I started to appreciate how much of a stone-cold badass peak Fed was. It's like how you start to appreciate the villain more after your 2nd or 3rd rewatch.

Still love to root against him, though.

You mean you start to like the villain on your 2nd watch when you know he's going to lose? Lol, that was mean

The opposite happens much more often, TBH. I don't usually dislike the person before they say anything. I may dislike their style of tennis but that typically won't turn me off on their personality (few exceptions, obviously).
But, there are quite a few who I initially liked, until I learned more about their interviews, character, etc.

Basically. When you're not caught up in the story and rooting for the MC.

It was harder to appreciate Federer's dominance while its actually happening.

We need the variation - I used to dislike you but then you opened your mouth and I liked you even less.

Serena for me in this one.

I didn't like Djokovic back in 06-08 but his Djoker humor made me a fan by the time. Later i became a fan of his game also.

Uhhh.....But you like Djokovic’s game? So the sliding backhand on the run does all that for you, eh?

Someone's clearly not seen young pre-2014 Djokovic play. Vintage Novak was much more aggressive, quick, and first-strike than Murray. A lot closer to Agassi or Safin than Murray.

I suggest a quick education course: AO08 semis vs Federer.

That should set them straight.

yeah well you're clearly without taste

Nadal for his bold statements regarding the hypocrisy of feminists

Overdose of the political correctness has led us to that stage.
I won't be surprised upon seeing more insanities in the upcoming years.
It'll just get worse and worse, just as there are more and more dictatorships and quasi-democracies in Europe and elsewhere. It's all connected.

I'd rather not discuss politics but it has seriously seeped into sports and culture, so it's unavoidable.

I can only imagine the worst nightmare-ish life of a mid aged, white citizen of the western world. Anything she or he says can be labelled as misogynistic/racist/Islamophobic/karen/boomer etc and put him or her on defensive.
