The Importance of the Forearm in the Volley

Just how important is this for volleying?

I have been working on both my forearm muscle and my volleying technique. I feel much more confident in my volleys, forehand and backhand, than I did a year ago. I break my wrist far less often.

But I am curious. I have played with an older player and whenever he volleys he just totally blocks the ball. The racquet itself is completely vertical and blocks the ball.

He has huge forearm muscles. How much of a role does this play in volleying?

Developed forearm muscles will definitely help backhand volleys.

blocked volleys are ok, but you get better angles with backspin and the ball doesn't bounces as high
